Credit card details scammed
Submitted by Nibbles on Wed, 2014-12-31 16:48Hi all. Woke up this morning to find a message on my phone from my bank asking me to call them urgently. Turns out my credit card had been used in the USA sometime during the night even though it was in my wallet at home. Luckily the bank flagged it and let me know to ring up and cancel it before funds were taken off. Why Im posting this on here is that I have only used it in two different places over the last few weeks and one of those places was the oceans reef boat ramps. I was wondering if my card details had been scammed from the ticket machine at Ocean Reef and if anyone else who has used the machines had had their card details stolen too?

Ranger, Colorado and Dmax
Submitted by sea-kem on Wed, 2014-12-31 15:44Thought I'd throw this out therev again as I'll be seriously looking for a new set of wheels in the new year. I know the question has been asked before but it's been a while and a few of you guys who have bought these models will have had time to give some good feed back. I'm leaning toward a Dmax at the moment. But I love to look of the Colorado and the Ranger. I'm going for the top of the line model in whatever I get and in manual. Just looking for performance feedback, price comparisons and general opinions. Cheers.

Any home brewers on here? I have an issue
Submitted by tadpole on Tue, 2014-12-30 21:56
Thought I'd give it a couple of days to see how it goes, but she was sitting dormant when I checked yesterday so presume the yeast was cooked. So I threw 8g bakers yeast in (it was all I had), and there appears to be a little bit of action, but not much. So after 5 days, is it worth going to grab some more brewing yeast to try and get things going? Or just tip it out and start again? Been brewing for about 5 years, but have never killed my yeast so this is a new one for me. Hope someone can help- 21 comments

why do people use the word pass ?
Submitted by hezzy on Mon, 2014-12-29 22:00bit of an odd subject ,but
something that really prickles me in the last few years is when someone dies you hear all these people saying they passed ...makes me ask what did they pass ?? a car ? a bus ? what ?
Australians haven't suddenly got super religious have they ?
people don't say passed away or died , just passed ? why are so many using this word ?
to me its an American term that just doesn't fit in here .
any thoughts on why people here seem to have adopted this term in the last few years as you hear it more and more or is that my wrong impression ?

Half size 44 gallon drum (ie 22 gallon?)
Submitted by bradz on Mon, 2014-12-29 11:23Festive greetings FW'ers
Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a half height 44 gallon drum? I dont want to cut one in half because it needs to have a lid. It also needs to be the same circumference.
It doesnt need to be exactly half height, just not full height.
Cheers
Brad

Re 'You are looking at a knob'
Submitted by Sw0rdf1sh on Mon, 2014-12-29 07:42Re posting 'You are looking at a knob' Submitted by Marineboy on Sat, 2014-12-27 16.45 (http://fishwrecked.com/forum/you-are-looking-knob)
Geoff Kirk is my name and I am the owner and skipper of the Buffer Zone. There are 2 sides to every story. On Saturday I was fishing with my octogenarian father, visiting from Tweed Heads. Dad wanted to catch a Dhuie. We tried in close (38m) with no luck so we pushed out another 9 miles to some ground I was familiar with.
On arrival there was a boat in the vicinity, always seems to be the case. I have several marks in the area so we stopped and hovered over a spot about 500m from MARINEBOY as dad dropped a bait to the bottom. With no success we placed the boat and put the sea anchor over. After drifting for about 10 minutes I noticed that we were getting a little too close to the boat that was there before us, around 300m. We pulled the sea anchor and started to move to another mark when we noticed MARINEBOY bearing down on us. He stopped about 20m from us hurling abuse and yes he got plenty back.
At that point he started taking photos and told my father and me that we would be all over the net that day. A couple of points, I have been fishing from boats for over 50 years. I have never before been accused of dropping in on anybody. I agree with most of your forum users that ethics should be a big part of the test to get a skippers ticket and boat ramp ethics should be included as well. As for being some rich prick that has no idea how to act on the water, I started back in the 70’s with an 11”6” De Havilland car topper with a 6hp Johnno and through a lot of hard work in a family business I have progressed to what I have today.
MARINEBOY, at your age I think I had progressed to a Savage Snipe, 12’6” with a 15hp Suzuki, nothing as flash as what you are fishing out of, but I guess that you’ve chucked enough tantrums over the years that you get what you want when you want it. Mate I’m not hard to find, Geoff Kirk. Give me a call if you like, I’ll buy you a beer and we can both move on. By the way, no more correspondence will be entered from this end.

marine salvage bag
Submitted by Muddy 1 on Sun, 2014-12-28 09:55Howdy! Just looking for a bit of advice/ direction? I found a marine lift bag about 8nm off mindarie the other day just floating around with nothing attached to it, scared the s#&t out of me as it looked like someone slumped in a life jacket from a distance. Anyways I'm just wondering if it is worth anything to anyone or if i should just turf it down the tip? I looked them up online and they appear pretty pricey so seems too good to throw out,It's rated at 1000kg has shackles ect still attached.
Cheers Matt
You are looking at a knob
Submitted by Marineboy on Sat, 2014-12-27 16:45hopefully this is no one on this site.
Was out fishing today 20nm west of hillarys, was drifting through a patch of ground, and had done 4 or 5 drifts when this knob pulled up in front of us no more than 50mtrs away and sets himself up on the same drift covering ground we were yet to get to. We moved slightly and he moved and did exactly the same again. We approached him and suggested he learn a bit of etiquette only to cop a mouthful of abuse as if he had done nothing wrong.
Like I said what a knob !

digital fishing logbook?
Submitted by scano on Fri, 2014-12-26 18:48Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone on here uses a form of digital fishing logbook?
either something excel based or a programme that you can download?
More than anything I want to be able to record my catches according to date, weather conditions, time, tide, depth's, fish caught, bait or artificials ect.
I then want to be able to bring up a template showing a summary by species and what time of year we started catching them. also if it could be sorted by location it would be great.
if anyone uses something of this nature and could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.
cheers
Scano

Shark Bay Camping
Submitted by BarraSlayer on Tue, 2014-12-23 19:14Gday All,
I have got 8 days off with the missus, she has to work Xmas day so starting driving boxing day. The plan is to go to Shark Bay camping and hopefully wet a line off the beach. Planned to do it last year but fell through. Is anyone else going up there and any recommendations on camping grounds as never been. Hopefully we haven't left it too late to secure a spot, other half rang and ask and apparently you just rock up and buy a permit, is this true?
Merry Xmas

Fisheries lecture............
Submitted by OLD BANGA on Mon, 2014-12-22 10:01After we had checked our four pots this morning and we were heading back into Kalbarri I noticed a rope in the water with no floats attached, what we locals used to always do is pull the pot and drop the pot and rope off to the VMR office at the boat ramp, but on arriving back at the ramp Fisheries were around checking everyones catch, when queried why I had the one pot in the boat I explained what we were doing and the Fisheries officer become quite agitated and starting getting all uptight. I again explained that thats what we do in Kalbarri, rather than leave an unmarked rope in the water to get tangled in someones prop, he advised me I should leave the pot where it is and advise the Geraldton Fisheries office of the position of the pot and they will come up and pick up the pot, because in their opinion it is not a hazard.
Yes technically we could have been prosecuted for pulling 5 pots, but we were doing the sensible thing, or so we thought, and delivering the pot to VMR who let people know that a pot has been handed in and if the person can identify the pot etc they can claim the pot, with possibly a donation to VMR. Two pots were handed in this morning to Kalbarri VMR, both with no floats attached.
So be aware if you find rope etc out there while you are pulling your pots etc, just note the co-ordiates and either advise Fisheries or VMR and they will collect the offending pot.
Lecture received and lesson learned.
Wiser Old Banga!

Submitted by Scaly Man Fish on Wed, 2014-12-17 08:32Hi all , Im keen on scooping for crabs at night in the estuary
Does any one know what winds are most favourable and those that are not.
As I have tried in the past and when the wind picks up not sure of direction you cant see the crabs due to the wind on the water.
thanks
