WA state election
Submitted by kangaroodog on Wed, 2013-02-13 15:26Hey all
could not find a section detailing anything about the upcoming election in WA
so who are you all thinking of voting for? I will be supporting the Shooters and Fishers party, there policies I agree with and I am sick of all the restrictions being imposed upon myself like I am sure most of you all are.
Have a read of their policies and see what you think, they have done some very good things in NSW, I have been following them for quite a while over there and hell if Sydney wasnt in NSW i'd want to be there

Rescued fisherman slammed over equipment
Submitted by Iceman on Tue, 2013-02-12 10:17Police have criticised two fishermen who were rescued off Mandurah overnight for carrying no emergency equipment.
Guided by a police helicopter, the Mandurah Water Rescue Group found the men and their dog in Cox Bay about 2am.
They did not have an EPIRB, flare, radio system or mobile phone on their boat.
The men, aged 51 and 58, had enjoyed a day's fishing at James Service Reef before they became lost and ran out of fuel.
One of their wives called water police about 10pm to report them missing.
Police spokesman Sam Dinnison said just before 2am, the police helicopter identified a boat that had not moved.
The volunteers from the Mandurah Water Rescue Group had to change vessels before towing them to Ravenswood.
"The rescue team had to change boats to get to them because of the shallow water," he said. "We're happy we rescued them but we're not really impressed that they had no equipment.
"If they had any of that equipment, it would have made things a lot easier."
I hope they throw the book at them. 4 hour search, what a waste or resources. They should also make them pay the cost and skipper should loose his RST.

what size limits and types of sharks are ok to keep for a feed (mainly in Exmouth)
Submitted by scano on Mon, 2013-02-11 20:48Hi Everyone,
Wanting to ask the question before people jump up and down and jump to conclusions about sizes ect. I know Danny Green caught a tiger recently and got himself into some hot water as a result of keeping it for a feed with the family.
we are heading to exmouth soonish and as we all know the sharks are in plague proportions up there over the past few years.
my question is are there many sharks that come along and help themselves to your prized hooked fish (rankins, spangles, red throats ect) that are actually worth keeping for a feed of flake themselves?
Now lets get one thing straight, this is not aimed at a shark cull or even a shark catching mission, it is purely wanting to know more of what sharks to mainly expect to encounter up there, what is their maximum size limits and perhaps what the bag limit is.
I always fish for the future and we only keep what is needed for a family feed ect. I just want to get some answers on some area's I am not all that familiar with that's all.
thanks for any input and reading and as stressed above please rest assure that I am only asking the question, not specifically targeting sharks.
regards
scano

Trolling skirts
Submitted by sea-kem on Sun, 2013-02-10 19:38Hoping to get out for a bash next Sat if the weather plays the game, and am going to troll some skirts instead of swimmers to alleviate the weed factor. Would you guys recommend the bigger or smaller skirts? I've got a reasonable selection and was thinking if Mackies are about the bigger the better? Thoughts?
Cheers

Sambos and sharks
Submitted by joe m on Fri, 2013-02-08 13:58Hey guys
Got a mate commin in today from the US and he wants to catch a fish this weekend. Not my kettle of fish to go sambo jigging (in fact doesnt interest me one bit) but would also allow me to stop in at rotto for swim on way back and cook up a few crays for lunch.
my question is though are the sharks at the barges that bad that landing a fish is immposible? Dont fancy losing $30 jigs every drop... its not the casino
Cheers for ya input

Toyota Prado 150 series - Performance Chip upgrade
Submitted by Ben85 on Thu, 2013-02-07 21:30I’m sure this has probably been done to death in the past, however I’m looking for some feedback from Toyota Prado 150 series owners regarding performance upgrades.
I'm re-locating back to Perth in a few weeks and on arrival I will be purchasing a new 150series 3.0ltr turbo diesel. Has anyone chipped one of these in the past? and if so what is your opinion on the result? Also is there any certainty as to whether Toyota will still honour the warranty?
I’ve also seen that the exhaust system (cat back?) is changed out to a 3” system?
And finally- where is the best place to have this done and any idea of the cost?
Sorry about all the questions.
Cheers/Ben

Does Braid deterioate with time and weather,
Reason i ask is i have a reel that the braid has been on for a few years now but never had a lot of fishing time with it. we went out fishing over the long weekend and the line broke a lot easier than i remember it doing.

The herring apocalypse
Submitted by bod on Wed, 2013-02-06 19:21The herring apocalypse: Fish worth millions in exports die in Icelandic lake after building work 'starves them of oxygen'
Stretching as far as the eye can see, dead herring blanket the ground in these chilling pictures taken today.
It is not yet known what is causing the mass fish deaths in Iceland, but today's grim find is the second such occurrence in two months.
The herring, weighing an estimated 25,000 to 30,000 tonnes and worth nearly A$30million, were found floating dead in a small fjord on the northern part of west Iceland.
The Dead Sea: Millions of herring lie dead, believed to have been killed by building work
The fish were found in a small fjord on the northern part of west Iceland
Biologist Róbert Arnar Stefánsson estimates that 7,000 tonnes of herring is laying on the shore and there are many more at the bottom of the fjord.
Both this mass death and the one in December, where a similar amount of fish died, are thought to be due to a lack of oxygen in the fjord caused by a landfill and bridge constructed across the fjord in 2004.
School children in a nearby village collected between 25 and 30 tonnes of the dead herring this morning for sale as animal fodder.

It is the second time there has been a mass death of herring since December

Workers clear up dead herring worth millions in exports. The fishing industry is a huge part of Iceland's economy
The herring will be left to decompose naturally, according to a decision by the Environment Agency of Iceland and the West Iceland Centre of Natural History.
Nearby residents complained about the smell of the rotten fish and there is an ongoing dispute over the clean-up.
Tens of thousands of birds have been drawn to the site to feed, but there are fears the fish oil from the decaying herring might threaten these birds in the coming weeks and months.
The fishing industry is a major part of Iceland's economy, accounting for approximately half of the country's total exports.
Fears: The Icelandic Government has agreed to fund research into the deaths as concern grows
