Kayak/Canoe Hire
Submitted by Buz on Thu, 2012-09-13 00:11Gday all. Just thought id see if anyone on here has had any recent experience(last couple of years or so) hiring a Kayak or Canoe to go fishing in from a company/person in Perth?
I have searched online and found a few companies that seem to hire them, just wanted to know if anyone on here has done it before and could share who they hired theirs through, what they thought of the whole exercise and if they would recommend.
Just got an invite to go with a mate fishing on Harvey Dam in the future. He has a Hobie Outback, but as yet i dont have my own personnaly freshwater craft :(
Not to bothered paddling one man in a canoe as i take canoeing Outdoor Ed trips sometimes for my job so quiet proficient in canoes. But think i would prefer to hire a Kayak.
Didnt find any, but man it would be great if some of these companies hired out Hobies with the pedal drive :)
Thanks, Buz.

I'm currently looking for a property to hunt/shoot vermin on. Happy to target rabbits, foxes, goats, roo's, pigs. I'm a SSAA member and abide by all rules set/required. I'm located in Bunbury but am more than happy to travel a few hours to a property. Can share the kill if wanted also.
Feel free to send me a message if you don't want everyone to know.

Drones - the new future!
Submitted by iana on Wed, 2012-09-12 07:13Thought I would bring this subject to your notice, considering the amount of disscussion there is here about persons doing the wrong things etc. I saw this program on TV probably SBS about drones and it was quite scary. By drones I mean pilotless flying vehicles. You know the forces are using them to spy and take out unfriendlies in the East. They are now used for coastal surveylance etc. The interesting thing is this is the pilots are sitting in an office on the other side of the world. Soon our entire airforces will be like that. But that is not all, the tecnology on this area is doubling every 18 months !!!!!.
An expo showing all kinds from small "Fly" sized to huge armed aircraft. Hovering taking pictures, directly live streaming information back to the owners. Ones that are about to boom are those used for law enforcement, police now and I mean now do not have to have their millions of dollar choppers, they can look in windows, follow crimes etc, doing far more than the chopper can from their office. Of course the papparatsii (spelling) will have a field day, as they are using them now.
But consider the fisheries watching you and your catch, patrolling the jetties, the water police doing patrols, the list goes on and on. The point is this is happening now, and it is anticipated that these devices will be on our doorstep very soon. to the extent that they are now having to formulate new flying regulations and privacy laws to cope. As they will be flying alongside your aircraft.
It amused me to see real estate agents showing clients around houses from the clients home, looking in windows while the occupants are still there.

Fishing in Margaret River
Submitted by NORUN NOFUN on Tue, 2012-09-11 09:55Heading down to Maragaret River for 4 days from the 20th of this month.
Doing a family trip, and will have a few spare hours to wet a line.
I will not have my boat with me and will be land based.
What options do I have for wetting a line in the Margaret River area ? Coast ? Creek ? - would prefer to not travel more than 30mins, due to tight schedule - maybe just throw some SP's for a couple of hours in the morning/arvo.
Would appreciate any opinions !
Cheers

Camping - solar panels and hot water systems
Submitted by Ben Derecki on Thu, 2012-09-06 15:29All being well next year I'm hooking up the camper and heading over east for three months long service leave with the family. I'm starting to look at getting a bit more self-sustaining so I can skip forking out $50pn for a powered site in a caravan park. Two of the things I'm currently looking at are getting some solar panels to charge the deep cell battery in my camper (Jayco Eagle) and getting one of those Coleman hot water heaters so we can have half decent showers.
Has anyone had any experiences with these and can provide some thoughts / direction on these? Also be happy to hear from anyone who has some and would like to flog them off...
Cheers

Son of tomcat
Submitted by Tomcat on Tue, 2012-09-04 22:08Hi this is son of Tomcat thanks for all the msg very heart felt. he was a great bloke and my best mate not just my old man. we worked fished and hung out together. he will be truly missed by all. the pain became too much for him and he made the decision to be comfortable for the last of his days and this is a man who had drilled through his hand with a drill, smashed his thumb with a steel mallet, wrapped it in gaffa tape. Even put an axe through his leg (on different days) and still kept workin so the pain must of been bad. we were told he wouldn't make it through Friday night but fought on till Monday morning 10 min after fathers day RIP DAD

New project
Submitted by tombstone on Tue, 2012-09-04 21:09Hi FW Members,
Well thought i would share some pics of my new project. Has taken 6 weekends to get it finished. motor has just been serviced and passed with flying colours. Just wanting some feedback from you guys, will be mainly used for river sessions while the bans are in effect.

First the old trailer needed some mods.

the old Sniper colt in the background which donated the trailer, motor and controls for the new project.

Picking up the new project, trailer needs some more mods, front roller not supporting hull etc. Minor stuff.

25HP 2 stroke mounted, while the boat was off the trailer, mounted the 44lb bow mount Watersnake, extended the draw bar and sorted all the rollers and skids.

Floor bracing going in for floor.

12mm marine ply measured and cut for rear casting platform and centre floor.

Rear casting platform, carpeted, hatches, hinges and handles fitted.

Side console mounted and fitted awaitng electrics and steering. centre floor carpeted and fitted too.

Again 12mm marine ply measured and cut for the front casting platform. You can see the bow mount mounted in place.

Carpeted, fittings fitted ready to go for the front casting platform. Plenty of storage now.
All decks/floors fitted now. now here comes the fun part, wiring etc.

Side console getting some goodies fitted. Safety has to come first so the essentials have been fitted.

LED strip lights work a treat as deck lights, lights the whole place up.

Dual batteries fitted in hatch, with LED strip lights in place for when the need arises. Petrol tank fits on the other side.

Skippers seat now fitted and quite comfy. Anchor light fitted and wired.

Almost there guys, passenger seating fitted and side console fitted out in 12mm marine ply and carpeted.

Front seating mount fitted so that the passenger seat can be brought forward while being able to be seated controlling the front mount and throwing lures into the tight spots.

That is pretty much it guys, apart from the clean up of the floor etc, she is all ready to rock and roll. I had to remove a few photos cause the file was a little big. Hope you guys enjoyed the photos, and for those who have a little bit of woodworking skills, electrical skill etc, it isn't that hard to do yourself, everything was done by me and the brother in law, apart from the welding, that was done by a mate. It really is worthwhile to do yourself, I have saved quite a bit of cash.
cheers guys.
