Anyone own a 60 series Landcruiser?

Gday all just wondering if there are any 60 series Landcruiser owners NOR in Perth. I need to have a looksee at one that has the big side mirrors not the small ones. Basically i am pretty sure i can fit the same mirrors to my hilux to get a better view of whats going on behind. But want to test run a set before buying a set. I have already tried calling all the wreckers NOR and some SOR but none of them have the mirrors i am looking for. If anyone can help out it would be most appreciated. Thanks, Buz.

jurien charter

hey considering heading up to jurien bay for a day out on the charterer efore heading up with the boat just to get bit idea on the aera what is it like and what the charter buisness like?

hilux owners

ive spoken to a couple of toyota dealers about this, and thats a few hours of my life i want back....

ok, so im getting a brand new one for work, and toyota have bought the price of the new turbo diesels (3L) down to par with the V6 (4L) petrol. only thing is, the diesel auto is only a 4-speed, whereas the V6 petrol (which is what i have now), is a 5 speed auto.

i have always towed my big boat (about 1.5 tonne) in 4th, rather than 5th, as its better for the transmission/gearbox, and its better economics as it doesnt labour the engine/waste unburnt fuel during the lower rev range. it does this perfectly, and sits on 100kmph at around 2200 - 2300rpm. fuel useage is not much more than usual driving, and probably get about 15-20% less mileage when towing like this (compared to not towing).

my questions to any AUTOMATIC DIESEL hilux owners is this: do you tow in top (4th) gear, or do you drop it down to 3rd? if you do have to tow in 3rd, at what rev range is 100kmph? or, does the diesel's transmission allow for the better torque range at lower revs, and make it designed/acceptable to tow in 4th?

is all this making any sense?!? any feedback helpful.

cheers

Info on Mandurah moorings

January 1 deadline for registration of vessel moorings in Mandurah

Boat moorings in the Peel area will be subject to new controls to improve safety, access and their impact on the environment.

The Department of Transport (DoT) last week proclaimed the Peel Mooring Control Area as part of State wide strategy to establish to address the continued proliferation of unauthorised moorings and their adverse impact.

DoT A/Marine Safety Operations Director Ray Buchholz said the new mooring control area covered all waters of the Mandurah, Peel and Harvey Estuaries, the Murray and Serpentine Rivers and a portion of Comet Bay adjacent to the entrance of the Mandurah Estuary.

"Owners of moorings in these areas now have three months to formally register their mooring with DoT," Mr Buchholz said

"For the first time mooring owners will have certainty of access to their mooring. There are approximately 100 moorings in the area and the new mooring control area will provide for the future management of these and expected growth."

The move follows the successful introduction over the past 12 months of a mooring management regime in Rockingham with more than 450 previously unregulated moorings being registered.

Mr Buchholz said existing moorings within the area had been tagged and owners are now requested to visit their mooring to identify their allocated tag number when submitting their application.

As part of the process, DoT will also be working with key stakeholders to identify and agree on zones within the wider mooring control area where moorings will be permitted. Applicants with a legitimate claim for an existing mooring outside these zones will be offered an alternative site within the mooring control area.

Once this process is complete, DoT will consider applications from individuals to install additional moorings if there is sufficient space within the agreed mooring zones. A moratorium on the installation of new moorings is now in place, however individuals interested in installing a mooring in the future will be placed on a wait list.

“As part of formal registration process, boat owners will be required to have their mooring inspected by a recognised contractor and ensure their mooring buoy meets the minimum requirements set by DoT," Mr Buchholz said.

Applicants will be required to pay an application fee of $79.00 and an inaugural annual hiring fee on registration of $84.80. The subsequent annual hiring fee will be $447.90 for exclusive use of the mooring.

Mr Buchholz said DoT would also be installing five public use moorings within Comet Bay for use by boat owners on a first in first serve basis for periods up to 72 hours.

“This initiative will remove the need for many existing mooring owners to maintain moorings in Comet Bay for occasional use,” Mr Buchholz said.

An information session on the new mooring control area will be held in Mandurah on 3rd October 2011 and commencing at 7.00pm at:

Mandurah Marina Marine Operations Centre
107 Breakwater Parade
MANDURAH WA 6210

Shimano reels maintenance ports?

 Hi everyone,

Just checking what everyones opinion is on maintenance procedures relating the the new Shimano reels maintenance ports?

Basically there is are a small screw in the side plate of the reel that can be removed and specific Shinano oil is added. (that's what they recommend in the manual anyway)

my question is when adding this oil

How much oil do you normally add?

How often would you add oil to you reels internals using this method?

and when adding or checking the oil level does the reel have to be placed on a certain side to prevent oil loss? or held upright or what?

The type of reels I am referring to are Stella's and stradics ect. (newer models)

Angling clubs

Son in law has shifted over from the east and is looking to get in to the fishing scene over here. He's been in to club fishing in a big way back east but knows no one down that way [ Two Rocks] I took him on a cooks tour up through the tracks to Wilbinga and Club Cap but think he needs to travel further in a club environment to learn the difference in the way we do it .

Send me a PM or stick it on the open forum so others in the same situation can benefit

new directional wave buoy for Esperance

Commercial fishermen and the recreational boating community operating out of Esperance have access to improved information about ocean conditions following the deployment of a new directional wave buoy off the coast.

Department of Transport (DoT) Oceanographic Team Leader Tony Lamberto said the new buoy, which records the direction of waves as well as the height, had been deployed 10 nautical miles from Bandy Creek Boat Harbour to provide fishermen, boat owners and the wider community with comprehensive information about coastal conditions.

Mr Lamberto said the information from the buoy would significantly benefit the safety of those going to sea and provide long-term data to assist in the management of the coastline and also in the planning and design of coastal infrastructure.

"The initiative represents a significant improvement in the information available to skippers operating out of Esperance." Mr Lamberto said.

"Now skippers can log on to DoT's Coastal Data Centre website at any time and immediately access near real time wave height and direction to better assess conditions off the coast."

DoT introduced its first directional wave buoy off Rottnest in 2004 to provide more detailed information about conditions off the metropolitan coast.

Mr Lamberto said information from the new direction directional buoy off Esperance would add to data already being received from DoT's network of directional wave buoys located at Albany, Cape Naturaliste, Rottnest and Jurien. Another directional buoy will be deployed off Exmouth soon.

"The quality and detail of the coastal data collected by this network is a valuable resource. It is used for coastal infrastructure planning and design, improve marine safety and all maritime commercial and recreational activities," Mr Lamberto said.

"The information adds to the understanding of the wave climate off the coast to better manage the resource and it is also used by the Bureau of Meteorology as part of daily weather forecasting."

C*ckheads and Eagles tickets

Sorry guys have to have a spew bout this.

Anyone else wait on the phone from 12 on the dot for eagles tickets, to be told they're sold out?

Ok fair enough, it's a big game and there's lots of members.

Check Gumtree etc... the amount of f**kheads who have obviously bought their max allowed number of tickets, only to sell them for $350 each right away, is sickening. Us poor bastards who waited from 12 sharp and dont have that sort of money miss out from seeing their team play in a hugely important match.

Bastards should be fined for that.

Lost and Found

Anyone lost this?

Last seen drifting south with the current out near the Rotto trench.

Surprised & disappointed that it held no fish.

Furuno FCV 585 transducer

Ok guys just doing more homework on buying a 585. I need to know the best tranducer to go with this unit for the kind of fishing I'm doing. It will mostly be in the 20-50m range. Will the standard transducer that comes with the unit be ok? or is there something else that is better suited? I have already Asked Simon C some of the questions but more opinions are a good thing. It will be used for bottom hunting so I want to exploit the units maximum capabillity for that. Any help appreciated fellas.

Thanks Sherbs

I'd like to say thanks to Sherbs for the Richter plugs . You should open a beach tackle shop.

I managed 6 hook ups, but only landed 4. I was/am stoked.

It was a treat to meet Rig & Sammut, you guys would not believe how busy that place became. Folks just kept coming & coming, I woke up this morning & there was even a Jayco camper parked next to me.

Secrets dont stay secrets for long hey?

Broome New Boating Facility on hold 'Heritage Issues'

The Broome Boating Alliance (BBA) and the Broome Community generally are frustrated with a
lack of progress in providing the planned safe boating facilities for the town.

The risks to life and property during cyclone sqxon for mariners and boat owners cannot be
understated. This has been long recognised by the WA Government who have set aside funding for
this necessary piece of infrastructure. Protracted negotiations with the various user groups has
brought about lengthy and unacceptable delays in progressing this facility. The BBA now calls upon
other lobby groups and the Yawuru people to expedite the heritage clearances in good faith
providing the way forward to a safer boating environment for all local people and visitors to Broome.

The development and improvement to Broome's Boating facilities will have significant positive
impacts for the Broome community. The whole community will benefit from this development with
some positive outcomes being;

Improved environmental outcomes and controls by providing appropriate maintenance and
wash down facilities;

Boost the economy of Broome by allowing vessels to be serviced locally;

Give Broome's community much needed safer launch, retrieval and storage facilities;

Enhance employment oportunities in the regional marine service industries;

Improved response time for our very important Sea Rescue Group; and,

Serve as a safe vessel storage area during cyclone season.

Like all boat owners in Broome, we have serious concerns about the time taken to sign off on the
identified heritage clearances. Lengthy delays in heritage clearance mean continued exposure of
mariners to risk of personal harm and damage to vessels and equipment. Delays will also result in
significant additional costs for the development of Broome's safe boat harbour. Any delays will
result in a reduction of available funds for the projects completion. This will have a significant
impact on the overall quality and useability of the facility.

In the last 17 months the projects development has been delayed by lack of commitment by some
stakeholders. We are now rapidly aproaching the cyclone season and call upon all stakeholders to
give their blessing to this necessary project and help expedite the required heritage clearances.

The Broome Community have the right to a safe boating facility and the BBA calls upon the
goodwill of those responsible to take positive action to allow project commencement.

The Broome Boating Alliance (BBA) represents the majority of boat users in the Broome areq
lobbying for local and visiting users alike. BBA has been instrumental in negotiations for the
allocation last year of $35 Million State Govemment funding into Broome for improved boating
facilities. We fully support the recognition and preservation of heritage values \Mithin the region.

Footy Laugh

I think even you Eagle's boys have got to have a laugh at this one

Reversing Cameras

Hi all

Having recently taken possession of my new Navara ST-X, I had a well liner and canopy installed yesterday. To round out the package I'm seriously considering installing a reversing camera, to take the guess work out of reversing up to the boat....especially after my missus got sidetracked while directing me backwards to hook the boat onto the Nav on Monday.

Not only did I miss the boat's tow hitch, but by the time she cried out 'Stop', I'd already struck the Nav's rear step on the boat's tow hitch....only just marked it but I wasn't happy.

Anyway, while I was in ARB yesterday, I was looking at their reversing camera setups with the display screen that replaces your normal rear vision mirror and only becomes a display screen when you select reverse....sounds like a great idea as I like that better than having a second screen mounted somewhere for the camera to connect into.

As I pursue this further, I was wondering if anyone else has a similar setup and what your thoughts are on why you chose the setup you have.

Thanks in advance of your comments.
