Submitted by crasny1 on Fri, 2011-07-08 17:23Got the Boat back at 3pm after the unscheduled date with bitumen, packed and ready to go for a night fish among the Arcipelago. After that period of time sex starved is an understatement.
Now Have a new cam, so if we get anything will get some shots, but I dont care, aslong as we are out there.

Majuro
Submitted by soupster51 on Thu, 2011-07-07 14:11I recently headed over to Majuro in the Marshall Islands for a weekend fishing tournament and to catch up with a good mate. It was a Fri/Sat tournament and was simply awesome. Started at 6am, about 0610 the stinger was out, 0612 the right back line was in the outrigger, at 0615 I had tied the rubber band onto the left back line and was reaching for the outrigger when a marlin ripped it out of my hands. You beauty. It's a great thing to see a marlin tail walking 15 minutes into a tournament. Unfortunately the hooks didn't stick and that was the story of the tournament for us. We had nine marlin strikes on the first day with no fish boated. We did let a couple of small (50-70lb) fish go at the boat though. We did get what ended up being the third place wahoo on day one. Day two we covered different ground and first pass of our selected ground saw a double hook up with a dogtooth and nice trout landed. Next pass saw my PB dogtooth onboard (35lbs). We got another couple more trout, before headed out to deeper water. We landed another solid wahoo and had another marlin strike but once again it evaded us. It was a great couple of days in paradise. The winning marlin weighed 623lbs and the winning yellowfin came in at 113lbs, massive fish. Next year I'll get that bloody marlin and it will be a year heavier.

Headphones advice
Submitted by Ben Derecki on Wed, 2011-07-06 12:03I'm heading to Europe in a couple of weeks and want to get a decent pair of headphones to take with me. I don't want the earbud ones, looking for a pair that goes over the head.
I can't believe the prices that some of them go for, while I'm sure the value in the sound quality is there I'm looking for something that is under the $100 mark - anyone got any recommendations? I'm happy to buy online or local.

Fishwrecked Tinnie wall or chain
Submitted by crasny1 on Wed, 2011-07-06 10:41Just as a laugh I have seen this done somewhere. All you do it add your tinnies you drank to the wall, and soon youll realize how much it can add up. Line them up back to back and soon the chain will easily stretch to any location, including your favourite fishing locations.
Ill start with 4 last night.

PS Just add them up

how much do you drink?
Submitted by JIM1 on Mon, 2011-07-04 20:24i find myself nursing stubbies after work for well over an hour, and honestly want to get away from drinking during the week. usually ill have 2 a night and maybe a couple more on the weekend nights and get twisted drunk one every couple of months on a night out on the town. when fishing it depends, if i fish lazy soaking a few big baits i tend to drink more as there is less action going on and a 6pack goes down well, but if im on the ball i hardly touch one.
what about you mob?

Buying car from interstate.
Submitted by Buz on Sun, 2011-07-03 17:09Gday all, just thought i'd see if anyone here know whats the go with buying a car from interstate in regards to paying transfer fees/stamp duty and rego.
eg if i bought a car in Queensland do i transfer it over to me over there under its QLD rego and pay tranfer fees over there, then bring it over to W.A and do a rego transfer over here and only pay the cost of rego an inspection here in W.A?
Like wise i am selling tinnie to my brother in the N.T, does he just pay me for it and i fill out a stat dec saying its his then he takes it back to the N.T and rego's it up there to the N.T roads? I think he said he only needed to rego the trailer up there as recreational boats still dont have to be registered up there. What do i do in regards to informing W.A department that th Tinnie is now up in the N.T?
Just wanted to see if anyone else has had experience with these situations.
I will be giving DofT a call tomorrow anyway, but most likely will be waiting on the phone for ages only to get a half arsed answer.

any Plumbers on here?
Submitted by Bodie on Sun, 2011-07-03 12:25Anyone a plumber by any chance?
Have got a problem with my hotwater system, where the water wont heat hot enough. Reading the manual says it should heat to 60-70 degrees, but when i check with a thermometer only gets to about 46 in the kitchen, and 40 in the 2 bathrooms. have it turned up to the highest setting on the dial on the hotwater unit
Anyone have any experience with Rheem hotwater systems?
The only info I've been told is that if the thermometer on the system was the problem i wouldnt have any hotwater at all?
Its a gas heated hotwater system and seems to kick the gas in ok and heat.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks

W.A.'s Earliest bogged vehicle!
Submitted by Browny on Sat, 2011-07-02 09:21Was reading a thread the other day, and it reminded me of a little known fact that we in Western Australia had Australia's first self-propelled vehicle!
W.A.'s first mine was the Geraldine Mine about 30km North of Northampton. (ruins still there to left of the Brand Highway.)
The 2 biggest problems the mine had was fresh water availability, and the transportation of lead to the Port.
I have a letter that shows in 1859, the UK owners of the time sent over a Bray's Traction Engine to help with carting the ore from the minesite to Port Gregory. This was carried to Gregory aboard the Brigantine 'Dazzler'.
Their letter states that "I shall be very glad to hear of your having overcome the difficulties of the road, - and hope you will be agreeably impressed by the Traction Engine performing its work well."
Their hope was to no avail as this excerpt from the Perth Gazette, August 26, 1859, shows: ...... "Steam had been got up on the traction engine lying on the sandy beach, but it is said the only effect was that the monster in three or four seconds managed to half bury itself in the loose sand, an effect which we should suppose might have been anticipated, there being; nothing solid enough for the wheels of an engine weigh-ing ten tons to lay hold of."
This was the first self propelled vehicle in Australia. In fact it was the first recorded vehicle outside of Europe.....even beating the USA!
This was prior to Germany's Benz motor vehicle by circa 26 years!
It is definitely W.A.'s and Australia's first case of being Bogged!
So for all those that get bogged, you are just carrying on a great West Aussie tradition. All others are just copying us!

Cheers.

Garlic, how good it is!
Submitted by Goodz on Thu, 2011-06-30 21:56Not at all fishing related... but...
Just wondering if anyone shares the love of Garlic as much as I do! What a wonderful thing it is.... tastes great and is good for you!
Was never that into it until I went through a health kick a few years ago and discovered it's benifits and started to eat it regularly. I used to suffer from the flu baddddddly and be bed ridden for days with aches and fevers but since getting on the garlic train I honestly havent' come down with one even slightly bad, even when the wife and kids have all been down with it, all I've noticed was a little sniffly nose. Such a good immunity boost!
Fav way to eat it is definately roasted.... slightly hard on the outside but soft in the middle.... mmmmmm... I actually just ate a lot tonight with my roast dinner! Also love it in foods ofcourse and even chopped up raw in a salad.....
Only downfall........ GARLIC BREATH! haha.. just as well I'm married and dont care anymore! Anyone got any good cures for it though? I've read there really isn't much to stop it but apparently Parsley eaten after it helps?
Also have a good 200 or so garlic plants thriving in the garden ready for harvest come summer.... got to be the easiest thing ever to grow! Nothing beats home grown!
Anyone else have love for the Garlic?!?!

what to do when catching a tagged fish
Submitted by Paul G on Tue, 2011-06-28 20:51Hi guys well most of you would know I have been tagging fish with a group of other fishers .Mostly dhu fish ,snapper, breaksea cod.We have tagged around 80 fish and have had 9 recaptures over 3 months. Some more than once .All fish have been tagged out of Two Rocks in depths from 30-45m.Each tag has a phone number and a tag number on it .The tags are yellow and are 40mm long .When out fishing if you catch a tagged fish and release it could you please take down the tag numbers and Phone number and report the capture. If you keep the fish as half the fish tagged are size just pull out the tag and ring the number or pm me through the website. We don't need gps marks of where you got it but depth and size if possible. There is a lot we can learn from the recaptured fish .I am putting in a lot of hour and expence into tagging these fish along with others and without the help of fellow fishers these tags are useless .I keep all tag numbers ,depth and gps marks ,sizes, sex and other info on the fish tagged.and would like to share it with the members on the site .I think you will find it quite intresting thanks

Solar Panel to charge battery for fridge
Submitted by pale ale on Tue, 2011-06-28 00:06Hello,
I've been doin a bit of overtime lately, so I wanna spend money on a solar panel setup to charge a deep cycle battery.
The Battery will mainly be used on camping trips to operate an engel, and also to run my minn kota when trolling up barra.
I have tried to search this site, but struggled to get what I'm looking for.
I believe some type of regulator is needed?
What wattage solar panel will put enough into the battery, to keep it topped up whilst it is connected to the engel (40lt). Most trips will be 2 or 3 days, with a second battery already in the car, I just wanna be able to keep the third battery in good condition.
I'm in Karratha, so unlikely to purchase anything here for less than half a million dollars
Where is a good online store to purchase these items
many thanks
good fishing

Shark Bay
Submitted by madm on Mon, 2011-06-27 13:34Hey guys
Got a small window to get away for a few days mid July. Thinking of heading up to Shark Bay
Going to have my parner with me so Steep Point is out.
Will need to do a bit of tourist stuff but hoping someone can give me some ideas on where to go to camp.
Done the Heron Peninsula and the other side is out, does anybody know any spots outside of the National Park (camping, fire etc) where there is plenty of room and chance at some fish.
No boat but have a well set up 4 x 4.
thanks

BAN GILL NETTING
Submitted by LandyAndy on Sun, 2011-06-26 19:03Fellow Fishos.
See the petition in todays Sunday Times, its on the fishing page.
I urge you to join in.
I have had the displeasure of fishing a lucrative fishing spot a week after it was RAPED by the "PROFFESIONALS" and thier nets.NOTHING left to catch, not even a Leather Jacket,Sargeant Baker or slimy Cod.What they dont harvest falls to the seabed for the crabs to harvest.
If you are members of other Fishing Forums please post a simalar thread.
THANKS
