How do you recommend a large fillet be divided
Submitted by Alan James on Thu, 2011-06-16 19:45Interested to know how others divide a large fillet into cooking size portions. OK you catch a nice size dhuie, rankin, red or whatever and after filletting you have this thick slab of meat in front of you. Do you recommend you cutting the fillet horizontally creating two fillets and then further divide, or cut into cutlets across the fillet or cut the fillet diagonally as is often suggested for mackeral. I generally shallow fry my fish in flour and egg so ideally I want to end up with a 20-25mm slice of fish.
Does how you cut / divide a fillet effect the quality of the cooked product?

So what are you listening to at the moment?
Submitted by Ben Derecki on Thu, 2011-06-16 12:27Time for an update on what everyone's listening to at the moment, it's always good to hear what people have on rotation.
So what are the five main albums you're currently flogging (doesn't have to be new music)?
For me (in no particular order):
- Attack and Release - Black Keys
- Covert Operations - 18th Street Lounge compilation
- The Definitive Collection - The 5th Dimension
- Rubber Factory - Black Keys
- Burning Your House Down - The Jim Jones Revue

This new version includes changes to features and functions that were not performing properly in the previous software version.
Items addressed with this new release:
1) Opened full range scale when using StructureScan™. StructureScan range is no longer tied to the fishing mode selected.
2) Fixed a problem with tides and currents being off by one hour.
3) This new version allows for the update of early production, v2.1 or older, HDS5x fishfinders

anyone have or know much about the new ryobi carnelian make of spinning reels. havnt heard much about them but reviews seem to read alrite. and RRP of $250 for the 12000 seems resonable for a mid range spin/jig reel.

GPS Apps?
Submitted by milsey on Wed, 2011-06-15 12:20I was wondering who uses there iphone or any smartphone as a GPS, I was having a look awhile ago at getting the navionics app however a new release was a few weeks away and now it’s been out for a couple of months i thought i would see if anyone has been using it or any other mapping App for that matter. I’ve got memory map which is ok but it’s very slow and the maps themselves aren’t that special. I know none are going to be as powerful as a standalone GPS but as a back up or a cheap GPS for the dinghy it could be worth looking at.
Thanks

Torrentz? (not fishing related)
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Mon, 2011-06-13 15:54For the nerdylingers out there, anyone got any good torrent sites that you use. Looking for one thats got aussie music, stuff off triple J etc. Also ones that don't worry bout leeching etc and don't need passwords. One I use generally is kickasstorrents, they're pretty good but don't have local music etc. I know about demonoid etc etc, but prefer the quieter ones.

Quad Trailer
Submitted by big john on Sun, 2011-06-12 18:50Looks like I'm settling back into Kununurra for a few years at least. So i've decided to get a quad to expand my shooting opportunities as well as get in to the odd remote billabong for some land locked barra action.
Three months ago, after a few nights planning things, I purchased the steel, ordered the trailer parts and got cracking in the back yard. Been a long process but pretty happy with the final result.
Just need to run the brake lines, take it to the weighbridge, affix the manufacturers plate and then register it later this week.
For anyone interested, here's a few pics.

Boat and trailer Rego
Submitted by Ringy35 on Sun, 2011-06-12 16:46Hey All,
I have just purchased a un licenced dinghy and trailer (cheap) and was wondering if anyone on here has ever had to re register a boat and what is required to get it on the water and if anyone has had to take a trailer over the pits and what they look for?
I know with the trailer that i need to put on a few reflectors on the front, side and back, replace the chains with stamped approved chains and also install a number plate light. Other then that all the lights work and bearings seem to be in good condition. Is there anything else that might catch me out???
With the dinghy, Where do you take them to get inspected? There is a couple of cracked welds and the rear seat has copped a bit of damage. Are these the sort of things that will fail? Also gotta install lights. Is the anything else on the boat i will need?
Any info would be appreciated lads cheers.

Tantabiddi boat ramp upgrade plans.
Submitted by marble on Fri, 2011-06-10 16:42Got some plans for the new ramp today from the shire. Had to scan them in sections but you`ll get the idea.
Looks like there wont be any standing in the water or getting bogged anymore. Finger jetty should be long enough to have 2 boats at least on either side so it should speed things up a bit. Looks like a seperate jetty for the commercial operators so should be good.
Might not take us an hour to get back on the trailer now :-)
