NBA Playoffs
Submitted by Ben Derecki on Fri, 2011-05-13 16:39Anyone watching the Playoffs at the moment?
I've got to say I was pretty surprised seeing the Lakers go out 4-0, the Mavs are looking pretty hot. But I don't think they'll be able to go all the way though, even though I'm following the Bulls (now) I reckon the Heat will be the team holding the trophy at the end of it all.
Go Bulls.

Leisurecat
Submitted by pgreen1 on Thu, 2011-05-12 10:36Guys If you have ever had anything to do with Leisure cat please feel free to send Kev at leisurecat your experiences good or bad.
Dear LeisureCat owners, operators and Drivers.
Last week we were the subject of some ill-informed and badly worded press by way of an errant reporter in an edition of the West Australian.
The ramifications of which may be large or nothing. Those who know the boats certainly know better. Those who do not and those who may be our competitors will have different opinions.
Certainly the particular ex-ship’s Captain of questionable academic background who now holds a cushy job with AMSA knows nothing and knows even less about Cats.
The AFP are under fire for the way they are handling their part in the Boat people crisis. They want to deflect as much heat as they can, even I would have thought twice about tackling those seas that close to shore in an 8m to save those people that drowned, but instead of simply saying they wouldn’t risk more lives using their crew who are not trained for such work in such conditions, someone simply chose to deflect and say our boat had been deemed unfit due to buoyancy concerns to waterline.
I received a defects notice from AMSA via the AFP to do with the boat, but all of the items on the list were petty items like Battery storage vents, scupper sizes and separation of 12 volt cabling from fuel line areas and questions to do with tanks structure. All items witnessed by the WA Dept. of Transport and OK under USL and local Marine regulations. There was no mention by AMSA over concerns of weight or waterline in that defect list, none.
They have three of our boats up in Christmas and Cocos Islands, one was given to FESA as a Sea Rescue boat. They have had since middle 2008. These boat have been operating without incident and in all manner of seas as Rescue and Apprehension boats for that time. In December 2009 the AFP decided to take out of WA Survey and put all of their boats into Survey with AMSA (Australian Maritime Safety Authority). Just ask the WA department of Surveyors here what they think of AMSA and the credentials of same.
The boats had been passed by our Department and given the relevant Survey certificates for use as specified for 6 passengers and 2 crew.
During the change of Survey, the clown that was in charge took one look at the waterline to deck height at rear of boat and deemed the boat unsafe unless used in restricted waters of only 1.5m or less. This is despite the same craft being given an open water 2C Survey certificate here in Fremantle by the Department of Transport. Believe me, they too are not happy. Look out for their response to the article in the West also.
So it begins.
To simply state our 8m boat is unsafe is a big call in any stretch and one we intend to fight vehemently. Our boats are not unsafe, indeed I would much rather be in a similar situation in an 8m LeisureCat than any other boat pound for pound. It is simply the twisting of the story spun by a reporter quoting a nameless AMSA inspector passed on by a AFP officer who wanted no part of it.
To make a stand I intend to take a full page out in the West of customer testimonials from any of you willing to write a short testimonial that may be simply how much you like the boat and why to a small recounting of an experience you had in seas you’d rather not be in and how you felt.
We have always been here to receive any of your stories good or bad on our product and always striving to improve service and product.
I hope we can set not only the public straight about the safety of our boats but that this is also read by those who hide in the shadows hoping to bring us down and they can see the support we have from those who know the boats. There is an element at large in FESA that only want alloy RIB hulls that hope to exclude us from the market in Sea Rescue. Whatever it is, we intend to answer the challenge.
Any return email testimonials will only be used with your permission. Feel free to pass onto other owners and operators of our boats I may have missed.
Thanks in advance.
Kind Regards,
Kevin Horsley

Request for water shot
Submitted by SHizz on Tue, 2011-05-10 13:38I'm sure there is plenty of budding photographers on FW. I'm looking for a particular type image and I figure one of you guys might have something useful rather than me going out and attempting to take it myself.
Basicly I'm looking for a ocean pic. Nothing else in it but the horizon and the glass off conditions. A bit of swell wont hurt either as long as its glassed off.
The picture will need be taken from water level from a boat or what not, as opposed to one of the shore as I dont need any shore in it. I'm guessing some of the divers might have such a picture from when they have surfaced or are heading under.
If anyone has something they think might fit these needs, email it to me . If I choose to use the image I will throw a lure your way.
Im looking for something similar to the attached pic, but in nicer conditions, no kayakers and preferably glassy conditons. Not asking for much am I? :P
Cheers

Dirt bike wanted
Submitted by Simon C on Tue, 2011-05-10 07:41I know this is largely off topic, but I am wondering if anyone has a reasonably late model Dirt Bike they would like to rent/loan me for a day. I used to do a lot of riding before kids and a few mates have been trying to get me back into it. Whilst going and buying a new one is not an issue from a cash point of view I just don't know if I have the "urge/desire" anymore and the missus keeps reminding me of my old bike that sat for two years before I sold it. I figured that the best way to see would be to borrow/rent one and head out for a ride with mates.
I am happy to pay or trade a days offshore fishing and still have the tools and know how to fix anything if I break it (except bones in myself). If you do please drop me a PM. Thanks

Submitted by collin g wood on Sat, 2011-05-07 19:51G'day guys, I'm looking to buy a camp kitchen, the one I have seen had a sink for the missus, a plastic surface for preperation and cutting etc, a backing board/ lid with checkers backgamon chess board print on it, and an area for a 2 burner gas stove, shelves underneath, hooks and trays hanging off the back board, it all folded up into a neat little zip up bag. The bloke who had it said he got it from WA Salvage which is no longer around, just wondering if anyone has seen anything similar, and where to get them? Cheers

Just wondering if anyone is familiar with this boat or maybe you were the previous owner who traded it in? I'm just chasing an un-bias opinion on the vessel.
Thanks

How the bloody hell can we allow this to happen!
Submitted by Tony Halliday on Wed, 2011-05-04 10:55http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/newshome/9308549/rescue-boat-unsafe-to-help-in-disaster/
quote"
The only rescue boat the Australian Federal Police had stationed on Christmas Island as last year's asylum seeker tragedy unfolded had been declared unsafe for use in even moderately rough weather by the Federal Government's peak safety authority.
The AFP has revealed it was forced to slap severe restrictions on the use of its fleet of LeisureCat 8000 patrol boats after the Australian Maritime Safety Authority ruled the vessels were too heavy and could only operate in smooth seas."
ok I have been out in Leisure Cat in real rough conditions and they pretty seaworthy in my books!
so if their where so worried why did they not buy a Boston Whaler off the shelf rescue boat or like other countries have boats designed for high seas rescue! that can roll over and self right in cyclone conditions, we awarded the purchase of boats not suitable and safe by our standards to our AFP!!!
WTF, a few heads should roll for this, and after the lost of life up north in NT where DOC's boats and vessels where found unseaworthy in the coronial report into the deaths of islanders...
oh did I forget to mention how many of our Rescue boats in Australia with sea rescue are Leisure Cats as well!!!!
Who the F#$@% makes these rules and decides what’s seaworthy and safe????

crocodile idiot
Submitted by PJAY on Tue, 2011-05-03 23:08i heard the guy who jumped the big crocodile enclosure in Broome last year and got bitten has lost his leg. Apparently it became gangrene and they had to take it off................can anyone else confirm this?
i was more concerned we may lose the crocodile at the time?
Brainless or what?
Submitted by carnarvonite on Tue, 2011-05-03 17:30Over the Easter break a young chap had to be taken down to Perth by the flying doctor for treatment for a shark bite to one of his heels.
Seems he was hand feeding and teasing a black tip reef shark with a fish frame up at Red Bluff when a wave knocked him over allowing the shark to bite his foot. Not sure if the ambos had to do the drive up there but its still a fair way to cart someone down either way and then for the aircraft to fly him down as well just because it was a "smart" thing to do.
To make matters worse, the next day another chap got bitten on a finger doing the same thing.
Is it just me in thinking that these people turn their brain off as soon as the leave on a holiday and do the stupidest things possible to get their trip to hospital or names in the papers.

TAXI, Please. Fins/Pliers to Exy
Submitted by Pete D on Mon, 2011-05-02 14:42Post Exmouth comp trip and gear is everywhere - Thanks Gully/Adam for my 300mm lens.
My fins are on there way back, but Lucky Tims' fins need a lift back up to Exmouth. I could hear them squealling and complaining from my shed about the cold over the weekend...hahaha.
So, if anyone is heading up to Exmouth shortly and has room for a set of free diving fins, then please make contact. Lucky will even give away some 'red' spots
(well maybe not.....). Apparently, a pair of pliers need a lift with the fins aswell...some how they blended in with Till's jigs for his return flight.
Cheers Pete

ricky Nixon
Submitted by Cameron71 on Mon, 2011-05-02 14:22Anyone see any of the footage of this fellow in the interview last night. He was so lame! What I can't understand is why he even agreed to the interview knowing that he had nothing to offer by way of explanation, and so would simply be grabbing the innuendo and dumping it squarely in the middle of the table for the camera to zoom in on!
My personal opinion is that he got what he deserved.
