ROAD SOUTH IS OPEN
Submitted by carnarvonite on Wed, 2010-12-29 10:47The road south from Carnarvon re opened this morning for daylight traffic only and subject to local speed restrictions..
The crews have been working day and night to get side tracks in place and this has shortened the expected time considerably, they deserve a good pat on the back for what they hace achieved in such a short time.

concrete mix for footings?
Submitted by wayneleech on Tue, 2010-12-28 20:38hey fellas,
I'm hoping there are some members here that are brickies....? If so I need some advice:)
I'm going to get a brick wall built (to replace a wooden fence 1.8m high) and was wondering what mix to use for the footings.
I was going to use a combination of sand/cement/chippings.
Can anyone tell me how much of each I should use? The footings are going to be 400x250 deep.
cheers

Christmas Lunch
Submitted by alfred on Sat, 2010-12-25 20:30Had a quiet Christmas this year with just the family, so the spread was simple. Got to love the whites, the soft shell allowed me to de shell the whole head, so that everything on the platter was edible!

Ran out of parsley and cucumber so no interesting colours to the dish!
Spinach with bean sprouts and baby corn
French beans with pomelo
King prawns and mango salad
BBQed scallops - shucks, didn't clean the dish!
Roasted potato and pumkin
Waldorf
Honey baked ham
Turkey roll

The new XTPC 50 and 70litre
Submitted by Xtreme Coolers on Thu, 2010-12-23 17:30Another new box just arrived is the XTPC 50 and 70litre marble. This box is a new design that has not been seen in Perth before. It has been designed with extra depth, side bars for strength, a new recessed hinge, stainless latches and thicker built in skid plates.
Dimensions:
XTPC50litre marble: L: 475, W: 430, H: 575 $125.00 for FW members
XTPC70litre marble: L: 505, W: 480, H: 610 $155.00 for FW members
The benefit of the cube style is the extra depth and also makes for easier carrying.
Enjoy the festive season.
Photos of the new XTSH260 coming soon.

Dave

Tyre sizes - 2002 Mazda Bravo
Submitted by lunker on Wed, 2010-12-22 10:34Hey guys, I know I could probably just call a tyre place but it's just so much easier posting on here!
Does anyone have experience with putting larger tyres on a bravo/courier?
I want to go a taller tyre and perhaps a little fatter but that's not a huge issue. I'm looking towards something like a 235/85r16
If anybody has any comments or works at a tyre mob, please let me know!
Cheers

What to ask when buying a cooler box.
Submitted by Xtreme Coolers on Tue, 2010-12-21 20:57Hi all.
These are the things i think you should be asking when you go to buy a cooler box. The industry is very big, competitive and unfortunately, not everyone is in it to do the right thing. So here are my top tips when purchasing a cooler box. It does'nt hurt to ask.
1. Ask if the cooler box is fully insulated. If it is not, walk away and find one that is.
2. Ask if the plastic used to make the box has been UV protected.
3. Ask if the box has been produced using an anti-delamination process. This is now used to avoid the plastic wall coming away from the insulation.
4. Ask if there are parts to replace anything that you can break.
5. Ask if there is any warranty. You should get 5 years minimum. Check what is covered.
6. Be aware that a lot of models have a lid design that has a recess on it. This means that when you close the lid, it actually recesses into the space of the box.
This is something i always point out to people and i find a lot of people had no idea about the recess and actually change their decission based on their need.
7. Ask if there is any after sale service. If something goes wrong, what is the seller going to do for you.
8. Ask if the latches and screws are stainless steel. Marine grade is even better.
9. Ask what the cooling rating is. Most will be 5 - 9 days. Fibreglass will have a longer rating on most models. Be aware how this rating is achieved. The box is filled with ice, closed and put in the shade for 7 days. In reality you must consider the factors. Outside temperature, type of ice used, how many times you open the box, direct sunlight, what you put in it and how thick the lid/walls are.
10. Lastly, get a box that is made to suit your needs, there is plenty to choose from.
I recently sold a box to a guy who has got 14, his motto is you can never have enough.
Enjoy

New stock just arrived/update
Submitted by Xtreme Coolers on Tue, 2010-12-21 20:29Hi all
It was good to finally meet Adam today, although the body is a little sore after unloading the latest stock yesturday. I have ordered a lot of stock in the marble colour. I like this colour as it is a little lighter and suits our climate a bit better. It costs me a lot more to have this colour, however, i think it is a great colour to have as our signature colour. Most of our range now comes in the marble.
The new stock that has arrived will provide even more options for all of you.
We are now fully restocked in the XT 50litre, XTWC 55litre and XT70litre sizes which have been very popular this year.
Fishwrecked members get atleast a standard 10% discount on all website prices.
New products to announce include:

Dimensions: L:470, W: 430, H: 360 (all dimensions are in milimetres)Price for Fishwrecked members $76
XTPC50litre marble: a new design out of the factory which is part of the cube range now available. It has more height than the standard 50litre and is a lot easier to lift as it is not as long. This new design features built in hinges, stainles latches and built in side bars for extra strength.
Dimensions: L: 475, W: 430, H: 575 Price $130.00
XTPC70litre marble: same as the XTPC50 except larger.
Dimensions: L: 505, W: 480, H: 610 Price $165.00
The XT100litre mackerel box now comes in marble, blue, orange and white colours.
White and marble $260.00

In the large boxes we have a new model to release.
The XTSH260litre marble is our largest cooler box. It is large enough to fit an XT100mackerel box inside with lenty of room to spare. Good for transport and storage.
Dimensions: L: 1675, W: 590, H: 535 Price: $440.00
Other large boxes include the XTWC150litre, XT180litre and the XTSH210litre. All of these are available in blue and marble.

Folks borrowing cray pots
Submitted by Shorty on Mon, 2010-12-20 22:26I heard today some folks just go out cut folks floats off and put there own legitimate ones on , some of these people are on holidays often from the country and can't be bothered buying there own pots,,
Because the fisherys dept don't check folks going out most are undetected,,when they holidays up there just cut there floats off or take them home to sell for beer money,,,
Just a heads up for people i can see only one way of stopping them and that is having your ID burnt into your pot or ID metal plate fitted,,then they might just go onto easier pickings,,
I wonder how many people go to an area and there pots gone but they are in fact looking at them,,just has different floats on them ?
I do wonder also how many end up in the Quokka for sale ? Folks just attaching they own floats and bringing them back to sell,,a great money earner if folks don't brand they No. into the pots,,

Carnarvon flood update
Submitted by carnarvonite on Mon, 2010-12-20 13:25The level at the levee banks have reached a peak of 7.8 meters and are expected to drop slowly before rising again when all the backlog of water changes direction and starts to flow out again so fingers crossed.
Nearly everyone on the north bank of the river have been evacuated plus 30 odd people from Gassy junction and surrounding stations. Burrangar aboriginal settlement is cut off but has supplies for at least 3 weeks.
A road train load of tucker bound for Broome that was stuck here has been accessed to supply the emergency relief centres and remote communities.
The road south is expected to be closed for at least 6-7 days after the water drops, the north road will have less damage and will be opened as soon as water levels allow here and at Minillya where it is flooded as well.
If you really have to drive to Exmouth you can take the inland route Great Northern Highway and come in via Burkett road from Karratha.
The caravan park where my bus is parked is about 8-9 feet deep so its all gone, but it is only metal and rubber and can be replaced along with the contents. My nissan is stranded at the Shell servo after a mix up with one of the other groups so one is using mums car and minus wallet and essential keys etc so I hope someone walks past it and moves it if the river rises any more or it will swim as well We are all ok so thats all that matters.
ABC radio is giving a top coverage and giving interviews of towns people on the situation, so far I have avoided them but no doubt they will catch me up in time.
Thanks for all the support Cheers John Nelson
