Pacemaker rebuild formally Foam Bilges. Pic heavy
Submitted by Swompa on Sat, 2018-06-23 17:11Arvo folks.
So, three weeks ago, I decided that it would be a good idea to pull my boat apart for a bit of much needed maintenance. 15/16 years ago, it was a hull that cost $250 and the old man and I built it up to a centre console. The hull is a Pacemaker at 19 foot.
As part of the build, we filled the bilge with the two part expandable foam and I guess I am just posting on the condition.
As expected, there is water in areas though not as bad as I expected. The foam has a small gap between itself and the frames where it seems to have shrunk or folded in its curing process and there is a little bit of water, like 50ml per 1/2 m3 of foam. Where it has sat for god knows, it is black and stinks but so far, the only rot is above the deck in the bow. Heaps of cockroaches! 11 rubbish bags so far and half way through.
Today is the 5th day working on it and I have just discovered that a shovel is a GREAT way to dig the foam out as I just did in 4 minutes with the shovel, what took me 2 hours with a claw hammer and chisel.
the only water is in sections where the deck was patched or covers glassed over hatches, where the additional glass work failed. The as built sections are rock solid.
Overall a bloody strong boat which is half way through the dig out.

Still alive
Submitted by Doc on Wed, 2018-06-20 13:04G’day fellas, still sitting idle back home after my inconsiderate wife got a bit of cancer that required an operation, started worrying about it when we were still in Tasmania, but it looks pretty good now, Spending far too much money at home, but getting among the fish, mainly elephants, pinks and king George. All things being equal, we are heading back to WA early next month, let you know when we’re in the area, try and get out in the boat with someone. Will mainly be in the mid west at wifey’s sister up Mingenew way, but Perth is on the agenda.

Amarok owners
Submitted by sea-kem on Tue, 2018-06-19 20:39Still waiting to hear from my insurance assessor and starting to get a bit antsey with them.
Anyway I took and Amarok Sportline V6 8 speed auto for a test drive last week and was very impressed, power wise and the general finish. But I'm looking for feedback on how they handle the sand. I've done quite a bit of online research but a lot of the posts are 3-4 years old, The was an Amarok owners website but looks like it went down via a bug of sorts. So would love to hear how these bad boys go, cheers.

Submitted by bsir on Sun, 2018-06-17 11:11Well i needed to put a new guide on one of my rods, but needed to keep it rotating while the resin dried. Too tight to spend money on a proper setup, so pinched a few of the sons technical leggos....worked perfectly.

Ding snags
Submitted by roddo on Fri, 2018-06-15 20:29Hi guys
Where does everyone get there casings from for there ding snags I made them last year for the first time and at the time I couldn' find any 30mm collagen casings locally?
And I know there a pretty secret recipe but how much wine do ppl put in per 10kg I did a few different batches last year and I didn't really make any that were great but this had alot to do with them drying to fast as it was left to late in the year and having smaller casings. I was worries they would be to wet if i added to Mich wine.
If you have a recipe you would like to share It would be Much appreciated I know these take years to refine so I understand if you don' want to share but would love some tips.
Thanks
Rod

Solar Panels - new house
Submitted by bradz on Fri, 2018-06-15 10:04Not fishing related.
We have started building a new home in Perth and are tossing up whether to install solar panels now or waiting until battery storage improves. We use most of our electricity at night because the 2 kids are at school and the wife and I both work.
Obviously without doing the exact maths on KW usage its not easy to get a definitive answer, but, is solar currently worthwhile in regards to paying for itself over a reasonable period of time.
With any technology I appreciate that there is alwasy something new coming out, but is the storage issue the main stumbling block at the moment?

G'Day and Thanks
Submitted by Glass Off on Sun, 2018-06-10 10:27G'Day All,
Thanks for the ad.
I promised to update my profile and have now done so after picking up my new purchase. Fair to say I'm pretty excited.
Iggy is a Seafarer V-Sea 5.0 with a 90 Etec, Simrad Evo 2 (9" touchscreen). Iggy is basically ready to go but there are a couple of very minor additions I will be adding such as bimini rocket launchers and an anchor recovery clip on ring/bouy.
I usually head out near Rotto with my mate on his boat but it will be nice to go out with him and not have to refuel on the water.
Now I will sell my Valiant so as to not use her for towing and launching so if you know of anyone wanting a classic car that runs, looks and drives a treat please let me know.
Stay safe and tight lines

My poor girl
Submitted by sea-kem on Sat, 2018-06-09 19:16

So here she is and she lays in state at the smash repairers awaiting her fate. From an initial look the smash repairer reckons a write off
I've put a lot of extras on her including new suspension that was going to be tested on the Gnaraloo track at the end of the month.
So a couple of parts to this post, firstly as a preemptive I've been out to look at replacement cars and took a V6 8 speed Sportline Amarok for a test run yesterday, well it nearly pulled my face off with the kickdown torque heading onto Roe Highway. With their end of financial year runout deals it's going to be hard to beat at 1.8% finance. She will of course need extras like long range fuel tank, roo bar, well liner and tow ball to start. But the finish of the car is exemplary, good old German engineering.
Ok second part of this post is for anyone with legal mind. So my car was only insured for market value and when I get paid out I reckon I'll be about $7.5k out of pocket for all the extras ( for something that wasn't my fault FFS) Has anyone heard of a precedent of the other party being sued for this?

Container transport
Submitted by gruntre69 on Fri, 2018-06-08 10:05Seems like a few on here know transport.
I need to get hold of a shipping container and then get it tranported and unloaded in a laydown yard in the south of brisbane.
Looking for the most cost affective options on both the container and the freight. I might need to leave the container in the yard for a month or two before I empty it...
Any ideas where to start??

Captain Fabio
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Thu, 2018-06-07 14:00This one is good enough for its own thread.
How would you be if your captain and the only player in your team capable of winning a stoppage of standing off to the side playing with her locks while play goes on. Even the AFLW players worry about the ball first.

Smart Drum Lines
Submitted by timboon on Thu, 2018-06-07 05:34Hopefully the "smart drum line tech" is going to gather some momentum....
I dont agree with Campbells view that the coastline here doesnt lend itself to a trial, I would have thought the "known" areas are prime for a few 20 O hooks and a fillet of fresh whale....
Australia becoming anything like Reunion Island is not a good road to go down although the species we are having issues with is no doubt slower to breed and become that threat.
Its like a credit card debt though, the more it snowballs, the more it snowballs....
I wonder if there are any "true watermen" left braving the ocean at Reunion now or whether they have since all been eaten?
