Point Peron Boat Ramp, 08-04-2018

 Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen

On Sunday, despite the favourable weather conditions, I needed to spend a few days in the workshop building up stocks of wood turned items. Son sent me a text in the morning 'Glass conditions'. I deleted the text quickly, got back to work. Turned a platter, looked out the window, not a breath of a breeze, hmmmm, should be out in the boat diving. No, no, gotta get back to work.

Each item I made, looked out the workshop door, bugger, still no wind. Okay, down tools, go for a dive.

Well, I could not believe how many cars were at the Point Peron boat ramp, spilled out of the carpark and onto Point Peron Road, up the HMAS STIRLING Pass office. As I was going to be launching at the gentlemanly hour of 1100, I saw boats leaving and knew I could get a park.

I then noticed the Naval Association had hosted an all day Food Market, wow, all the single cars which filled up the car/boat trailer carparks, wow, what a mess. I guess there would be a lot of angry boaties who couldn't park due to cars in theirs bays.

What were they thinking!
Oh yeah, got a good carpark and a few crays, cracker day on the water.

Sincererly

Thinking of putting some on the new tub, only because when ever i go away i look for fellow F/W members.

Always good to put faces to names & have a chat.

Maybe Adam can advise.

Carnar-Fin 2018- Update

 Hey all

Just an update on the Carnarfin fishing comp for those interested…

7 weeks to go until its on and all of the details are now finalised and things are ready to go

As in previous posts, there are a few changes/ improvements to the format and logistics this year, which will make it bigger and better than ever.

A few FW forum members have been involved with the organising this year and will also be involved in the running of things (MC, weigh master etc). If you see a slightly vertically challenged Pappa Smurf look alike on the scales at the weigh ins, go and say hi to him.

The new website is now up (and will be improving over the coming weeks) so go and check it out for further details.  : https://www.carnar-fin.org.au/  and they also have crackbook pages and events set up (https://www.facebook.com/events/143671319782487/ and https://www.facebook.com/CarnarFin/)

The weather is starting to turn for the better now, earlier in the year than usual, so hopefully that continues and we all get a good week of glassy conditions.

See yas all there…

Boat Cleaning

Just wondering what the general consensus is with boat washing, is it preferred to wash boat at marina or at home?

Coral Crab? One for Glenn Moore Museum

Came from the Swan River last Thursday. Currently in mates fish tank and thinking of returning it back to where it was caught. Believe it to be a Coral crab and should it be returned or stay in the tank. Is a fair size angry crab.

Fish ID? SBF or Big Eye tuna?

Went out deep.  Got there just as one deckie started to sprew last night's party intake over the side.  Trolled slowly back in from 15nm out.

Got this on a dorado coloured deep diving laser pro.

Initially thought it was a southern blue fin, but looking more closely, thinking it might be a big eye.

Thoughts.

Anyone Missing a Boat?

I pulled this bad boy out around the 30m mark off Hillarys today. Friggin pain in the arse all day tripping over it but hopefully I saved someone collecting it.

Keep an eye out while driving around there people as we saw numerous other small pieces around.

Jurien/Kalbarri trip

Heading up to Kalbarri soon and will be stopping off at Jurien for a weekend.

Anyone got any tips for fishing Jurien offshore as i haven't fished it before. Direction, distance and depth info, don't expect exact locations.

Also what's being caught at Kalbarri at the moment?

Salmon Hamlin Bay

A mate sent me this photo today, they didn,t make it to the metro area.

Salmon fishing in Scotland

 Hi all,

Going with the Mrs to Scotland in July and would love to try my hand at catching a salmon or two.  Has anyone done this?  It seems the best way is to enlist a guide to fish with you.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Mooring Ideas

 Crew....

Taking a 5.6 centre console up to Yardie in a while and trying to work out the best way to moor it in the shallows not far off the beach...

I'll be pulling it out anytime the forcast isnt so flash but hopefully it stays out the front for a couple of weeks on the chain at the ready....

Been trying to come up with a good idea....

I've got a few in mind but thought i'd put it to the genius's here on FW....

I'm happy to buy a decent length of chain and will have a shitload of rope...

What i dont want to do is cart anymore crap 1500kms so hoping i can get something in EX or make something up there....

Ideas??

Jurien yellowfin turn it on.

The yellowfin were on fire today in the 40s off Jurien, caught 4 then attempted to net and release the next couple , lets just say netting 20kg++ yellowfin is fun! Grest day.

Lost Rods?

Someone has posted on bookface Perth and WA fishing reports a bundle of rods that’s fallen from a boat up near coral bay turn off if anyone here has lost them

Furuno Autopilot

Recently installed the latest Furuno autopilot on the Whaler. A big thanks to David and Rhyss at Taylor Marine for looking after me, and Ross at Ross's Mobile Marine for helping with the install and sorting out an  intermittant fault with the boat (that was not part of the autopilot install).

The NavPilot 300 is sweet, and as usual with Furuno gear, just works perfectly straight up. It fully integrated with my existing Garmin MFD's to provide full functionality with a simple NMEA2000 network. Just hit the waypoint you want to go to, hit Navigate, and sit back and let the boat do all the work. Happy days, Exxy here we come!

The NavPilot has Sabiki mode (which is why I got the Furuno AP), which holds the boat on a coarse in reverse, allowing you to hold on a spot while in reverse gear on idle. Gave it a quick go yesterday and I recon with a bit of gettign used to, it will be great.

FINALLY

Finally managed a YFT this season......been very slow compared with previous seasons.

Topped off a great day on the water with Bodie, we also got two duies, tow baldies and two KG's, so some great eating coming up.

Back in Black is heading to Jurien tonight

Couldn’t resist a mid west run with the weather,  got the word on some good yellowfin so we will have a look , did some epic stick baiting in shallow a few weeks ago so after a demersal bash we will chase Kings and Mack’s ,  confident of a good report to follow tomorrow

Current speeds?

Just seeing if any body studies the current speeds much? I went out the shelf down south today and the current was shocking could not hold bottom in 150m due to the current strength, I just had a look on windy.com and the currents said .3knots south west which was the direction but I’m pretty sure it was a lot quicker, any ideas if that speed is too quick to be out there?

Stanless Fold Down Canopy with Rocket launchers

Looking for someone to build the above for my 20 foot Voyager Ghia. Any recomendations or photos of some quality work is much appriaciated.

Finally found the right people to do the job. Big thanks to Robert at Stanless Steel products Wangara and Max from West Cost Marine Trimmers for putting the cream on the cake. Awsome workmanship from two great guys would highly recommend both.

Found in Redfin

Got some reddies down south a few weeks ago, Sometimes when filleting them I come across these strange bone like structures which kinda look like an otilith from a much larger fish. I don’t know if they are something in their diet or something else but don’t think they’re in every fish.

Wondering what they are..

Friday Funnys

Enjoy

Thanks Matt

Fishing NZ

Wound up on a charter from amodeo Bay in the coromandel area with our skipper named Chris.

The boat put in 15 size snapper with the largest one going 560.

Heaps of smaller legal models released.

We got one king fish for each person on the trip, with about 5 mins of trolling a live bait each. My one was the largest at about 10kg, with two just smaller and one at maybe 8kg. All in all a great day on the water!!

It would be amazing if fishing could be like this back home!

Labor & Greens

Swan River (Belmont) Multanova Boat Speeding Cam

Bloke I know took his ex partner's new (second hand) boat (registered in her name) and their son out in the river, minus her of course.

The ex wife then got a notice in the mail from Dept of Transport , asking her to identify the driver of the boat within 21 days or she is deemed to be the speeding driver and gets the fine.

Notice says " Belmont Camera" on it. No name for the fining officer other than "W29" on the form.

The guy admits to speeding upstream of the ski area, as he claims he can't work out where the ski area finishes :( Neither he or his son have  a skippers ticket.

Anyone else heard of this happening before ? I remember seeing a newspaper about this years ago, but thought it had never actually happened.

I told him he will get two fines once they work out he has no skippers ticket.
