Working on an offshore rig a long way out and only drilling in 140m of water on what looked like featureless / lifeless ground until the ROV goes down and shows these beauties. Fishing prohibited on the rig

 hey guys went out on the boat last week, came in and noticed the handle on my stradic 5000 had fallen off into the drink, obviously was loose to begin with. Does anyone know if the newer model handles will fit? Can't find a replacement handle for it anywhere. Any help appreciated!

 Thought I would update fishing buddies on recent communications I have had with Water Authority and Rockingham City Council over recent breaches to the Water Authority License to discharge out of Point Peron. Under the license approved to them they are permitted to discharge the equivelent of 20 olympic pools of waste water a day, the waste water mainly made up of treated sewerage and industrial waste from Kwinana Industries. The license was granted as it was to have no effect to the Seppia Basin or local coastline of which the Shoalwater Marine Park is between the outlet and the coast. So when there is a problem with the plant it will discharge untreated or poorly treated waste into the area. So we see green slime on the beach in Shoalwater and told it is coral spawn or the red tide, for those of us who have seen coral spawn we know what it looks like and what was on the beach in Shoalwater was not anything like coral spawn. So below my enquiry and the response, surely they think we are muppets?

What is the Rockingham council doing to protect its coastline little or nothing but they are quick to hand out parking fines at point peron.

I have followed that coms up with emails to the Premier as it is his local area and the Mayor, lets see it they are willing to take up the fight or will it come back to the fishing and local communities to rally?

  The wastewater being discharged via the ocean outlet is treated, with a short term decline in water quality while we transition the Woodman Pt Wastewater Treatment Plant to an alternate mode of operations as part of the upgrade.

  A media statement was released by Water Corporation on March 23 and updated on March 29, which has attracted numerous media reports including radio, online and print. In addition the advice has been extensively shared to social media pages frequented by the recreational fishing and local community. Notices to Mariners have also been issued, advising of the precautionary advice. The outlet is some distance offshore and in deep water and there has been restrictions to community beach access for swimming or recreation, with the impacted area localised to the outlet.

  I assure you that we are continually monitoring plant performance and subsequent improvements to the treated wastewater quality and working closely with our stakeholders, including providing updates frequently to our regulators

Morning All,

I have my boat in Hillary's marina. The boat is 8.2 metres in length. I'm looking at having a general underwater hull clean done every three months whilst the boat is in its pen just to keep the antifoul coating clean between annual applications. I know this service is common on the east coast (and also Freo way), but have struggled to find someone who would perform it north of the river in Hillary's. Does anyone have any recommendations?

 Tough conditions yesterday but we were keen to return to some spots that got better with a sea breaze blowing, so the forecast looked to be 10 knts from the west for the day so we expected a bumpy ride going out. Didn,t go off like we hoped but when I pulled up a small Dhuie  and Sargent Baker I thought the Dhuie goes back and so does the sargent baker but on my hook. Nice fillet off the baker goes on and soon the line goes off. Result a  nice 1 meter fish around 14 1/2 kilo. So all happy with that which made for a worthwhile trip.

My 140 Suzuki is up for its annual service before a trip north and am wondering about taking it to Seabreeze boating in Wangara. Can anyone comment on service from them? I purchased the motor and it has had all previous services by Brett Ward at West Coast Suzuki, but I live in North Beach and getting to Henderson during business hours is tough.

 While I was bored a little while ago I put these graphs together.  They are based on recorded all recorded shark attacks in WA.  There are two graphs - one for all shark attacks, and one for fatal attacks.  Notes on reading the graphs:

1.  The green line is total population, read off the left side axis.

2.  The yellow bars are the number of attacks in each year, read against the right side axis.

3.  The blue line is the rate of attacks in that particular year, calculated as number of attacks per million population, read against the right side axis.  This is meant to normalise for population growth.

4.  The red line is the 10 year moving average of the blue line, read against the right side axis.

5.  This data does not have any species information.

6.  The fatal attacks are a subset of the total attacks i.e. the total attacks includes fatal attacks.

A couple of things that they point out to me:

- historically, the rate of total attacks is fairly consistent, although we appear to be in an upswing, but not significantly higher than past peaks.

- there has been a large increase in fatal attacks since the early nineties.

 For future reference:

If there is a bit of weed around in the area that you're fishing, then don't use a grapnel sinker.  It will quickly grab every piece of weed within reach of your line, wrap your leader around the ball of weed, and snowball from there.

This weed bomb will grow very quickly.

Trying to land a 60cm ball of weed will prove very difficult if there is any current at all (which is why you were trying out a grapnel sinker in the first place).

Heading to kalbarri on saturday for a few nights.  Taking the 5m plate ally.  Will have a good supply of 24kg trolling gear and lures, skirts tremblers, deep and shallow divers.  Plus some jigs, plastics and bait rigs.  What else should i take? Crab nets?  Bream gear if its windy outside?

Down at Gracetown, surfer being flown to Perth as we speak, Unsure of what shark involved, but there were lots of witnesses.

 News shows today highlighted that there are 250 taged great whites off the coast of WA. Looking at ghe sharksmart today I see 4 sharks being identified being tracked and not 1 of them a white. Where are the 250 whites, system really works well. There are 30 real time tracking systems set up from Perth to Albany. Maybe the sharks are smart enough to swim further 400 meters of these trackers or maybe the trackers are not working. Such a great system to build future reports on.

 Hi All......  Just wondering if anyone has seen or heard anything about a 4m tiger shark that was allegedly seen in the Mary Street lagoon ( Mandurah ..Halls Head area )  last sunday.    A friend texted me to say he had been told about it but had no other info.  I launched from there last Thursday and don't like the idea of a noah hanging around while I am up to my thighs retrieving the boat .  Any news welcomed .

I've been in Perth for 10 years and have only just brought the tinny down to fish around. spent a few trips out wide from Rocko about the 10mile mark but have done no good, seems like chasing dhu's down here is a lot harder than back home in Dongara.

Long-time listener, first-time caller.

I'm heading to Gnaraloo next week for a fishing trip, haven't been for a couple of years so pretty excited to get back. Just wondering what the road condition might be like, has anyone been recently? Towing a 6.5m alloy and expecting the usual curve-balls to be thrown our way, but any insight would be great. Oh, and are there still some old bits of fencing lying around on the beach to stick under the wheels?

In my "backyard". This is not good,I wonder if it is connected with the issue's of the "Poo Pipe" out from Point Peron for the last two weeks.

 No - Fishing- Crabbing- Swimming- ect ect ect!

In my quest to finally land a Mulloway, I tried again last night from the beach and hooked up on something big.  From what I've read, it showed all the signs of being a big Mulloway.

However while pulling like a freight train, it pulled my line so that it was rubbing against a bommie and I got snapped off (65 lb Whiplash braid).  Whatever it was, it was big, and felt quite different to a ray, I've landed enough big rays to know what they feel like.  I could feel the line rubbing against the rock and tbh I was surprised it lasted so long. 

This isn't the first time this has happened, I hooked a smallish ray a few weeks ago and it swam so that the line was going over a rocky outcrop (I could see the line going over the rock) and while the whiplash put up a good fight, it eventually snapped.

I really hate the thought of fish swimming around dragging hooks and sinkers, and want to stop this happening.

Most of the beaches here have rocky outcrops somewhere along them, and knowing my luck the line will find that outcrop sooner or later.

My question is, would something like 40 lb mono be better as a main line for fishing in my area?  Any suggestions?
