Lots of baby dhuies and a few sambos vid
Submitted by crano on Wed, 2015-12-23 18:37Another couple of dives off bunbury. There was about 15 dhuies but none size on the first dive You cannot see them all in the video as the water was not clean
enough. On a big screen you can see them better. We always seem to see lots of fish when all the baitfish are around.

Dhu bag out this morning - with sounder shot
Submitted by z00m on Wed, 2015-12-23 11:52Finally managed to get out early this morning for a quick fish. Had a great session with a 65cm and then 55cm Dhu coming in the first 30 minutes. An undersize pinky and 2 small Dhu and a fox fish were all returned. Then the sambos moved in in a plague. If you hooked 1 there would be 10 more follow it to the boat. I have a sounder pic somewhere I will add which looked awesome. No pics of the fish but here is the deckie fighting a sambo.
EDIT: Added sounder shot of the sambos.

wedge island shacks asbestos report
Submitted by hezzy on Wed, 2015-12-23 10:14just found this story on the abc , not looking good id think for the wedge community ,
makes you wonder if this might be the catalyst for removing them and opening it up for other developers
story below
hezzy
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-12-22/wedge-island-shack.jpg/7048466
Two Western Australian seaside shack associations will meet the authors of a report which examines asbestos levels at one of Australia's largest shack communities.
The report by independent consultants found more than 250 shacks at Wedge Island and Grey, south of Jurien Bay on the state's mid-west coast, appear to contain asbestos-related material.
Murray Knowles from the Wedge Island Protection Association said it would work with the Department of Parks and Wildlife to appropriately manage the asbestos.
He said the association would meet the department and the report's authors in mid-January.
"It's the issue of what to do to make sure that it's managed in an appropriate way and health issues are addressed," he said.
"So that's what we want to find out with the presentation.
"We need to hear the presentation and have those questions answered or other information supplied before we make a formal position on it."

Anyone else struggle out there today?
Submitted by sstevee on Tue, 2015-12-22 17:09Hey fellas
My brother and I finally managed to get out today (been probly 6+ months due to having shoulder surgery), we launched from ocean reef and headed about 17k's west. There was plenty showing on the sounder but couldn't tempt anything for the esky!
We persisted for a while using almost everything, placcies, metals, and bait until trying a scout for spots in closer for the same result.
So to conclude, we brought home the usual.... naught! It will be a year on the 27th since we've brought a demersal home. Are we doing it wrong or did anyone else have the same issue?

Living the dream...Cook Islands style
Submitted by pgreen1 on Tue, 2015-12-22 11:28The time has come to change things up a little. The wife and I will be leaving Australia in the new year to take up a position for 2 years in the Cook Islands managing a small beachfront resort on the Island of Aitutaki (Matriki Beach Huts). Included in the resort is a fishing charter with our own boat so you can guess how excited I am about that. Those of you who know me know that I have been involved in the Western Australian fishing scene for some time now so Im really looking forward to putting those skill to work over there.
I will put up regular updates for those interested, and for those interested in coming over for a family holiday or fishing trip just PM me and I can fill you in.
The main target fish over there are Yellowfin Tuna, Dogtooth Tuna, Wahoo, Sailfish, Marlin and Mahi Mahi. Casting on the reef with poppers and stick baits you can expect giant GT's, Some you can even hand feed in the lagoon haha. The other thing Aitutaki is well know for is its Healthy population of world record sized Bonefish. So if you are into your fly fishing this is the place for you.
As a holiday destination for the family you cant beat it. Its very laid back and relaxed, The snorkling in the lagoon is safe with an abundance of tropical fish, Diving on the out reef you can expect 40 - 50 m of vis most days with water temps of around 28-30C
Those of you who want to follow our journey I have started a blog www.matrikiblog.com or you can follow us on facebook "Matriki Beach Huts" or instagram.
Looking forward to maybe catching up with some of you whislt we are there.
www.matrikibeachhuts.com for more information.
Cheers and Farewell
Paul and Lisa.

Wilbinga Closure
Submitted by Mulie on Mon, 2015-12-21 22:09Took my nephew for a fish today and there is a notice saying that the Dewars track will be closed as of Jan 16th. There were a couple of rangers there putting an injured roo down and they confirmed it. Apparently the land is privately owned, but the track is an easement that is upkept by the shire.
There will be no where left in Perth now to take the family for a beach fish and to experience a bit of freedom, the way we grew up. The only upside is that the developers are bleeding coin up that way due to poor sales while they keep closing off our fishing access.

Custom Canvas Boat Cover
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Mon, 2015-12-21 10:33I had a boat cover come with my boat however it looks as though the previous owner had the bimini and rocket launcher installed since getting the cover made up and it (obviously) doesn’t fit over the boat anymore so it’s no good to me. I am going to flog it on Gumtree and put the costs toward a new cover so can anyone help me with an indication of what it’d be worth.
The material is heavy duty canvas and the stitching is very strong however there is one area that has a small hole in it and has been patched up. The canvas is a bit faded on the outside but as the boat was powered in 2011 it shouldn’t be more than 5 years old.

Awkward - when your KG is longer than your Dhu
Submitted by Notorious on Mon, 2015-12-21 06:29 Though the KG was a dusky morwong so I ignored it on the dive, then it turned and was the biggest KG I've ever seen. 57cm, 1.235kgs - PB!
Shot on Sambo was cool, I on the bottom, exiting a cave, sambo swum above me mid water, I shot him with my gun above my head pointeing toward the surface in the 1oclock position from a long way away. Probably my favourite shot on a fish to date.
Local dive yesterday off Rockingham on some new ground.

City of Bayswater Floating Jetties
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Sun, 2015-12-20 19:48Maybe I need to work on my solo launching and retrieving but why on earth did the CoB built their floating jetties a good 5-7m away from the ramp. Took me forever to retrieve and ended up needing the Mrs to leave the kids in the car to come give me a hand holding the ropes.
Hillarys is almost as bad. What is the reason for the engineers to separate the concrete ramps and jetties?
