First Dhuie of the year

Hi Guys,

Got to fish out of Hillarys last night and went to a location at 33m. Decided just to look for fish with my Furuno FCV587 with my best mate G taking it in turns to locate and drop on anything looking fishy! Used Squid with Mulies inserted.

We fished from about 6pm to 9pm and kept 2 fish and released 7 more (mostly around the 45-55 cm mark)

I dislike mornings and love it when I can fish into the night :) Was a bit dodgy minding Cray pot lines on the way in, but managed to avoid them.

Looking at some of the fish that members catch here, this pales into insignificance...however on light gear it was fun and very special seeing that many dhufish at once.

Swan Prawns

Hey all

Anyone been prawning in the Swan lately? Thinking of dragging the next few nights. Is it far too early or can you still get them in Summer?

Also best places to try?

Cheers

Ryan

Hi all new member just asking advice

Hi all great site for information for a newbie , as the name suggests I have a great record of catching Blowies in the Sawn , Just got myself a nice boat and intend to go out from freemantle into the wide blue ocean ,just wanting an idea where would be a good spot to start don't intend to go out for mikes as yet do the closer marks to freemantle would suit, any ideas would be much appreciated ,had s few boats in my time not really done much fishing from them

Nanga station

Does anyone know what the lauching facilities are like at Nanga station? I've been asked to go up later in the year and have a 6.5M glass boat.

I'm a bit concerned that it may be a bit heavy if the ramp area is all sand and too shallow.

Deep Drop

We took advantage of some good weather over the christmas period and decided to head out deep to target a couple of the species that have managed to elude us so far. We worked the 300m - 400m line for a couple of hours and found a ledge with some soundings that looked promising. The spot produced both Trevalla and Bass neither of which we had caught before. We then stopped on our Grey band spot on the way in and pulled a couple of Grey Band off it. So it turned out to be a productive day with a couple of firsts.

Port Kennedy ramp this morning

Bet this guy thought how good is this:

- New boat and trailer (trailer still has sellers name on it) to have first launch.

- everyone else parked miles away and left this nice parking spot for me.

- Will be nice and easy when I get back.

it was there for 2 hours that I know of, when we went to pull our pots and it copped a lot of verbal abuse while we were listening.

Some people really should not have boats.

rottnest

Took the kids over to rotto over the weekend kidsloved it didnt end up fishing much just fished in close. Me and the boys (7 &5) went snorkling and finding plenty of local crays.  Denver was stoked to catch his first sweep lol

Two Rocks Ramp

Is Two Rocks Ramp open? I can see on the web cam that upgrades are being done. Certainly a few boats launching but it looks pretty quiet. Is it all ok. Just checking before I drive all the way there.

Nairns Boat Ramp - Mandurah

Was think of using this Boat Ramp instead of the Navara Ramp to get into the peel Inlet for some crabbing. It is listed as a 5 bay concrete boat ramp. I drive down from Perth and thought it may be worth a try.

Any experiences access, the actual ramp and parking?? I have a 6.1M Quintrex.

Anyone in the Flag or Sticker Industry?

 Hey Guys,

Being new I don't know if anyones brought this up before but I've been out in Mandurah & the Sound now, obviously seen allot of boats/guys at the jetties (gave a nod & said g'day, some a little chat) and out on the water and wondered if any of them were someone I've seen post on here.

Was thinking it would be cool if we all had something "distinctive" on our tubs so we know its a Fishwrecked brother. Flag on our aerials, sticker both sides etc.

Would be seen by other members no matter where you are, your local spot, far North/South etc. Have a chat, maybe turn it into a few bevies/social etc.

Is it something you as members would be interested in?

Any members in the game to make this sort of thing up, provide it at cost or small margin to forum members? (shirts & hats could be another idea)

PS, 1st time to the sound today, out of Peron, nice ramp with washdown area incl taps (shame I did'nt have a hose) don't see that in Mandrah. Shame about the arvo wind/swell but the kids had fun wakeboarding.

Upper swan bream

Hi everyone, just wondering if people catch bream on lures around guilford way? Im thinking of kayaking from there towards the city direction on the holidays while breaming on the way but not sure whether to use bait or lures...

Thanks,

Lachie

Loose reel in reel mount - need a fix

 Hi all

I bought a second wilson MT8144 rod but this time its the alvey version.

The reel is loose when fully clamped inside the reel mount.

I tried putting electircal tape around the reel "feet" but its still wobbles around.

Anyone know a more permanent way to fix this?

Thanks

mates first Pink Snapper - a trophy

This is a picture of a mate who went on a charter out of Fremantle on New Years Eve morning and within an hour he caught this pinky. 950mm and 12kg. It's his first snapper and first decent fish other than some chopper tailer. stoked for him and the charter who put him on his fish of a lifetime.

I cant seem to be able to load the picture?? anyway its on Jazz Charters Facebook page..

Abalone today

Mate of mine, Bluey, wanted to show his son, Jeff, the ropes on how to get some abbs. Not knowing any decent spots NOR i took him down to a little secret spot i used to dive 35 years ago, yesterday for some reconinance. Weather was great and the abbs were there in abundance just off the reef.

Headed down there this morning just before 7am and BLOODY HELL.  It is no secret spot. There were hundreds of people there.

Most of the families there were of the non-swimming kind and very few of them even had masks on. I have to ask the question of how do you see if the abbs are size before plucking if you cant even see them. Most of the people were just feeling around, without a guage in hand, and plucking them off.

Abalone 2016

If you look real close you can see the people in the hundreds right up to the next headland.

Abalone 2016

Found North of OR Marina

While looking around the beautiful model Lily found this number plate bent in half and tossed in the ocean. Looks like there is a stolen car out there now with new plates on it. If you know anybody in the northern area with a car stolen recently then it might be worth mentioning to them. The authorities have been informed.

Octopus traps

Managed to get a few of these Octopus traps over christmas but have had no luck in my normal huants around the weed beeds of warnbro sound.

anyone got any ideas? do i leave them out along the reef for a few nights or go back to using the tryed and tested terracotta pipe.

if anyone has had any luck with these it would be good to get a bit more info.

Choosing the Right Rod to Match a Reel

I have a Stradic FJ 6000 spooled with sufix 40 lb braid and was looking for any ideas for a rod to finish the combo. I was thinking maby a 15-20kg rod. Its main uses would include Plastics, jigging and bottom bouncing.thanks

First crack

Heading out from mindarie thismorning with a mate whose towed his 8.8m outlaw cat down from Broome hopefully to catch my first ever Dhuie bit of luck needed as we have no spots between us going to head north and west see what we find .
