DIY rod tube
Submitted by Snags on Wed, 2015-05-06 20:04Fits 4 big rods in. Mrs donated me some old pillow cases to wrap the rods with so they dont move around inside the tube during transport.
100mm tube, cut to my longest peice of rod (8' Live Fibre). Straps are donated from a Woolies bag and sewn around hose clamps.
What do you guys think?

New to WA
Submitted by Biffington on Wed, 2015-05-06 17:37Hey guys
Recently I have moved from the east coast to the west coast, and its pretty hard going from knowing lots of great spots gained over years of trying to absolutely nothing.
Not trying to get secret spots from anyone, more trying to find areas to avoid in the perth region ( I have heard that fishing around Perth can be a bit of a dud). Any advice is appreciated on this, also I have to find a new tackle store, I am living in Wembley downs and something close would be lovely but dont mind travelling.
On top of this if anyone is keen to go for a flick let me know, I use lures 98% of the time and really only use bait in the surf, I love estuary fishing and am mostly a landbased fisherman although I do have a Yak.
Thanks guys
Biff

DIY landbased burley bucket
Submitted by Snags on Tue, 2015-05-05 19:26I had most of the materials lying around and thought it might come in handy for a Dunsborough salmon day trip we had planned.
Version 1: worked well but the end caps were hard to get off and ended up losing one late in the day. Definitely worked though as the school was out of casting range for a while until this was used. Like magic, the school made a b-line for the shore and the entire beach was hooked up! Awesome :)

kayaking shark baits
Submitted by luke george on Mon, 2015-05-04 11:00Hey everyone im just looking for a bit of info on kayakin big baits out, ive got a bunch of big salmon heads and im trying to decide how to rig them. So far im going with a 22/0 circle bridle rigged through the eyes. This has worked for me when ballooning but im wondering how this will go on the bottom. Can anyone share some experiences doing this, eg: was a sinker needed or the weight of the head was enough to anchor it. Also trying to decide the best size bait for this, just big enough to avoid large rays would be perfect but I know there is some enormous black rays that wouldn't have trouble eating a large salmon head so I'll just have to deal with them
Thanks Luke

beach fishing tips
Submitted by oneh on Sun, 2015-05-03 14:49Hi guys
stupid question but when one goes beach fishing, is there a specific spot that will always produce fish? I'm thinking of driving around and looking for those "gutters". i'd assume gutters are never consistently in the same spot
If i drive around and look for gutters, it will be time consuming and dependant on whether the area is populated or not
My question is, do you have any tips for someone new to beach fishing and desperate for a decent catch
thanks!

Penn 7500-9500ss dogs and ratchet fix stainless steel/titanium
Submitted by poida on Sat, 2015-05-02 11:51My old 8500ss has sat on the shelf for 2 years after blowing the brass dogs and ratchet for about the 3rd time. Took ages but i finally tracked down someone who makes and sells them in stainless/titanium. Also the ratchet has been upgraded to a 16 tooth (original 6 tooth) to take the backlash out of a big hit.
I have just put it together and although now it is noisier i am hoping it is a proper fix, and yes the old brass dogs did let me down on fishing trips.

The above is where you can purchase, cost 26 bucks or there abouts.

Here are some pics and a bit about the creation.
Anyone with the 750 850 or 950 USA models this might be good.
I just need to take it to the beach.

Extra tinny flotation- kapten boat collar - anyone tried them?
Submitted by lost fisherman on Thu, 2015-04-30 06:45Hi all
No affiliation with these guys what so ever - chasing a review from someone that has them, been in a boat fitted with them or seen them.
Ive repowered the 4.2 tinny with a motor 21kgs heavier, transom gets a bit of water over now sitting in rough conditions etc, moved fuel up front to help, didnt fix it, came across these boat collars yesterday, look ugly as sin but thinking this may help out.
http://www.kaptenboatcollar.com/
waiting on email from them with price. going what they give as a rough guide guessing $1200 for the DIY kit

Anchor Winch Fuse
Submitted by Peko on Wed, 2015-04-29 15:38I've got a 150amp fuse on the anchor winch that has blown repeatedly. I put the first couple of occurrences down to being unfamiliar with the boat in general and probably being too heavy handed when setting the anchor against the bow. I later discovered that I had too much rope and chain for the winch drum and it was wedging tight against the housing the winch sits in if it didn't wrap perfectly. Months go by and all the previous resolved but I still blow the fuse even being extremely careful. Any suggestions as to what might be the cause?

small dhuies
Submitted by slam on Wed, 2015-04-29 14:41Had a day out last week, the first for many months & found there are are lots of small undersize dhuies around & not many size. I have noticed this over the last few yrs with the big breeders falling by the wayside.
Has anyone else seen a pattern here? I think the size limit should be increased. I know plenty of people wont like that comment but realistically if we dont let them get to the breeding size the fishery will fall apart. I think i read somewhere that they need to be 600 plus?
Will be interesting to hear peoples views on this.
We caught 8 undersize dhuies & couldn't nail a size one. On the up side caught a good Harlequin which i think are on the increase in the last few yrs, baldy, Breaksea & some good skippy.
