A Sad Week for Recreational Fishers in SA
Submitted by Bloodworm on Fri, 2014-09-19 22:19Hi, I have viewed your forum for a while now and find it very informative and one of the best in the country. I would rather my first post be a fishing report describing my personal best Mulloway catch off a beach or bagging on 50cm King George Whiting in my WA built boat however I felt the need to communicate to you what has just eventuated in the very "fishy" world of politics in SA.
Marine parks in SA will take effect in SA as from 31st October. These parks have been proposed by the Labour Gov. with little or no research and the public consultation process has been with little more than an act and react methodology.
On Thursday a Bill to make amendments to no take zones within some parks was defeated by one vote as Geoff Brock (a once independent member that swung to Labour after the state election) voted against the Bill.
Recreational fishers will now be denied access to fish in these areas, many professionals will be forced out of the industry and many rural community businesses will be affected.
This is an example of Government not listening to recreational fishers but to that of the squeaky door of the Greens. We are a soft target in the political world and its about time that we unite and form a political voice or our children and children's children will not enjoy the pleasures of fishing in many areas of this great country.
I am and the majority of fishers are not opposed to marine parks, protecting our environment and ensuring fish stocks for the future but we must protest the "lock-out" mentality of Green infected governments.
Well that's my rant over, I feel better now and tomorrow I can get on with installing my new Garmin GPS/Sounder Combo.

Containers??
Submitted by JohnF on Fri, 2014-09-19 19:33Very hard day out wide today. Nice conditions but fish not interested.
We ended up coming back in and stumbled on this basically straight out from Hillaries in 115m.....fish everywhere, all 3 of us dropped jigs, all 3 got hit instantly on big sambos, all 3 got sharked quickly.....
We moved on straight away but came on another similar show 100m away......are these the fabled containers?
Anyhoo, total waste of time ever going back, sharks are everywhere, disappointing.

Night fish
Submitted by buddharock on Fri, 2014-09-19 17:21Hey guys,
heading to Busso/Quindalup next week for school holidays. Hanging to get out for a fish and considering night fishing for squid or other species. Have an underwater light set up for prawning and wondering if this would be helpful for squid. Thoughts?
Also planning to get to the 4 or 8 mile reef or artificial reefs as well. Is there much around at the moment? Going to spend some time if possible getting to know my sounder better and search some ground.

Deep drop sinkers
Submitted by Mattyb84 on Fri, 2014-09-19 16:43Hey guys just wondering what ur using as sinkers past 400m. I've tried 90 mm PVC filled with concrete but seems to light for the size and getting caught up in the current. I recently change my cv joints and axels so I've cut them up and welded a hoop on them. Just after other people's thoughts as lead isn't exactly a cheap option any more. Hears a photo of what I'm trying to get down to cheers

Submitted by frog.hicks on Fri, 2014-09-19 11:09Hi Guys headed out from Two Rocks on Monday with conditions being unfavorable we bounced our way out to about he 6nm mark where we found some cray pots, we then decided to drift from there as we didn't have any ground that was marked in the area and my deckie was now sea sick so didn't want to punish him any more. After a couple of drifts over the area had a nice hook up 6kg dhuie was landed, bled and dispatched into the esky. Proceeded to drift the area and caught three more dhuies all under sized and all released successfully. Conditions made for a tough day out but all worth it in the end. As a newbie to this caper I'm pretty sure I was fishing onto of the reef direction bank anybody know the area well enough to confirm this? Next time I want to hit up the 10nm mark with better conditions and a healthy deckie.

Reel care after use
Submitted by Hutch on Thu, 2014-09-18 21:48Hi guys,
In the box of a new Shimano reel that I recently recieved there was a card with do's and don'ts etc. on it.
To my surprise one of the don'ts was "Don't hose your reel to remove salt etc. as this tends to drive the salt and the dirt inside the reel."
This kinda seems logical but I have always been told to give the reels a spray down after each use.
Just wanted to know people's thoughts on what the best way to rinse/clean reels after salt water use is.
Cheers
Hutch

Dodgy Gumtree Add Scammed
Submitted by J Déjà Vu on Thu, 2014-09-18 21:21Going back 2 weeks ago now i made purchase for a saltiga reel
the guys name was
Sean Murphy
he said he was located in Telfer WA
we spoke over text messages he sent me pictures of the reel and described its condition, saying how it had not much use etc
we spoke about fishing for a bit and i was quite happy to make purchase for the reel
he said he payment via bank deposit was fine
he was with the commonwealth bank and so was i
he passed onto me his account details bsb number account name and number
he assured me he would post it the next day and send me the express post tracking number.
i made the deposit and next day came i messaged him in the arvo to see if he had got the tracking number
i wanted to know roughly when i would be recieving the reel as it was for a present.
his reply was sorry mate i left the reel with my misses when i get home after work i will text it you.
i said ok no dramas
the night came and i didnt recieve no text so i texted him the next day being saturday by now and never recieved a reply, tried the next day
still no reply.
i waited a few days to see if the parcel would arrive give or take a few days from WA to SA
every day i tried calling his number and it just dialled then went to message bank.
i had a feeling that i was being played around, i was pretty pissed off so i gave it till friday to allow for a week
still nothing no replies nothing at all.
i rang the bank and notified them of this and they said they would look into it and send out letters to the guy notifing them they need to send back the money or send the item.
has any one had any of these scams before?
does any one know this so called Sean Murphy from Telfer Wa?
i cant believe some one could do this putting their identity and bank details and running off with the cash, its not as if it was a fake person on pay pal
To register with any bank account identification needs to put put forward
so i cant see how this guy is trying to get away with this
he cant be fake he must be real
if any one knows this guy please let me no know
Pretty pissD off as any one would be

Harvey Dam - camping
Submitted by Jase123 on Thu, 2014-09-18 20:44Hi everyone,
Planning a trip to Harvey Dam tomorrow. Just wondering if camping is permitted around the dam?
We were planning on arvo/evening session and a early morning session so camping would be prime!
Heard there are a few trout about, is it best to look for weed areas or grass banks?
Cheers!
Jase.

Distance from rockingham to freo fishing boat harbour
Submitted by Shane O on Thu, 2014-09-18 17:16Looking at going for a ride on the jet ski tomorrow morning to freo fishing boat harbour for a ride, trying to find out the distance from the sea rescue boat ramp to the fishing boat harbour. Fuel won't be an issue, if it is I can refuel there.
Any ideas on time it would take doing about 15 knots? Have to be told to sit on Eco mode the whole trip to save on fuel (4000) revs.

First stop was on me and we got half an hour of fishing photos. Little did the wife know I had my rod set up and I was acually fishing on the wedding day no bites but still a day I will never forget. Its true what they say all the planning and waiting and when it arrives its over in the blink of an eye. Heres just one of the many photos to come.

wonder what it was
Submitted by Chewy88 on Tue, 2014-09-16 21:51Went down to one my usual haunts on the swan river tonight in hope for some tailor but no luck. Ended up catching a trumpter which was used as a livie and after about 20 minutes i saw the line tighten up with the line pulling off. Missed the opportunity for the hook up but when i was reeling the line back in, the trumpeter was smashed and mushy. just the head remaining, and the hooks looked like they had been crushed. Anyone got any ideas at to what it might have been?
