Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 2014-08-01 19:34hi,
today i went to golden ponds, at first there were heaps of koi eating pellets of the surface so it wasent taking my bait so i jaged it, then it took a strong run and i pulled the hook. I also jaged a barra and landed it. The barra measured 54cm . there were heaps of trout and silver perch and i also got a silver perch on a soft plastic.

Tip for Swan River Trolling
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Fri, 2014-08-01 09:18Planning on taking the Mrs on the river around Peppy/Bicton and up to Freo for our first fishing trip in the new dinghy.
The outboard has about an hour on the clock so far so I want to get some break in time and fishing done at the same time so plan on chucking a couple of Yo Zuri Crystal Minnows out the back before we stop up and target some skippy, squid and whiting on the drift.
Being a shore based fisho can anyone offer me any advice on the best approach to trolling for tailor or is it as easy and chucking the lures out the back and cruising up and down the river? Any direction on the best spots to try would also be well appreciated.
Cheers JF

Eupro cyclone
Submitted by lachieH on Fri, 2014-08-01 08:00Hi everyone. I have recently purchased the eupro cyclone surf fishing rod. It will be mainly for salmon and tailor fishing. I have looked at the weight rating and it says 17-40lbs. I just want to make sure that this is the right rod for the job because I always thought that that be a bit heavy for tailor and salmon. I havn't ripped the tag off yet but am hoping to on the weekend so any quick info would be great!

Beach Tailor
Submitted by lachieH on Thu, 2014-07-31 19:11Hi everyone. I know that I put a lot of topics about beach and river fishing for bread and butter species, I know now mostly how to fish the river but I have not unlocked the code of tailor fishing off the beach. I have gone to Trigg 3 times in the past 2 months in the morning, one with a swell of only 1 metre, another of 2m and another of 3m. Only tailor caught over the whole time was one at the 3 metre and caught by the people next to us. I think I now need to try other beaches and places like the floreat drain or something. I have been using mostly a star sinker with ganged hooks and mulie but have also used drift baiting, reeling in the mulie like a lure, and using a lure.
so my question is what are the better beaches currently, am I doing anything wrong and is it me just picking the wrong tides and times?

Bad service / attitude from JB Lures Australia
Submitted by longshot on Thu, 2014-07-31 18:50As if Retail business was not tough enough for all, have a look at the response I got when I asked JB Lures for a price on 3 lures and then saying they are out of my budget. ( All 3 were over $100 each unrigged) How not to deal with a possible new customer, who does not own a Million doller house or boat but a trailer boat like most Recreational fisho's.
"G'day Jens, when you build a million dollar home you don't put a cheap Chinese lock on the front door! My lures aren't cheap, neither is the boat or fuel !!
I make and sell over 3,000 lures a year, over 500 lures go to WA every year, why? Because they out fish all the shit that's available over there: Richters, Pakulas, Bonze, Black Bart and all the other mass produced copies that they sell over there. In the past two years JB Lures have won more than USD$2,000,000.00 in the US and approaching $800,000.00 in Australia!!
So you're prepared to waste money on shit lures that'll end up costing you a fortune in fuel? You realise that you're going to miss a lot of bites because they're unproductive.
When you get a bit of common sense about you, get back to me, but the prices might have risen by then.
Cheers, Dave,
JB Lures Australia."

unusual boat trailer problem
Submitted by hezzy on Thu, 2014-07-31 18:39ok
see who can diagnose the issue iv had with the boat trailer for my 4.1 stacer bit of background info
I bought the boat and trailer about 20 months ago ,
it was a bit run down , boat was full of rainwater and had been left out in the weather on a small rural block ,
got it for a good price so all was good,
replaced all anchor rope , fuel tanks , threw out the floor etc
fist time I towed it I noticed it pulled a bit to the right , and tended to vibrate a bit more than usual ,anyway after afull clean up and some strengthening to the break back trailer it improved it , but it was still there
when we measured up the trailer it was out of square,in the main frame and draw bar, slightly warped looked like it may have been rolled at some stage or involved in a bingle
anyway , recently my son built me a new one , all new metal had it galv dipped etc, put all the running gear back on it last sunday new springs and u bolts , old stem post was ok so we re used it , new rollers, new guards , lights , same axle and wheels and rims as they looked ok ,
anyway, the vibration was still there in the trailer when towed , especially bad without the boat on it , but much better with the boat on it
so I started looking at the tyres and rims for the problem , figuring it must be there ?
so give it your best shot , and advise me what you reckon is going on with it , see how good you are in the diagnoses
, I have fixed it , but it took a while
unusual one iv never struck before

Notice to Coral Bay Fishers
Submitted by SEAFORCE CORAL BAY on Thu, 2014-07-31 12:04After what we found this morning I just thought I needed have a little rant and make sure everyone knows the rules when it comes to fish offal while in Coral Bay.
Us, the charter operators provided and maintain the cleaning facility, its not the best in the world, but without it there would be nothing.
We are lucky to have a service that takes all the offal away for us from the filleting tables every day, This privilege will be taken away from us if what happened today continues.
All We have to do is follow a few simple rules:
* Offal to be put in provided bins or dumped at tip. (no offal to be dumped anywhere in the marine park!!!)
* Do not over fill bins, lid must fully close. (if they are full take your offal to the tip)
* Clean up after yourself. (hose and broom provided)
* Look after the tables, no hammers or axes. (you would be suprised what we see)
* Table are only for filleting fish (not backpackers making dinner)
* No scaling fish (it blocks the drain)
I have attached a few photos from my morning. It started by jumping in the cold water at the boat ramp and retrieving 3 full tubs worth of fish frames from the water. Don't know if someone was dumping their offal or trying to catch sharks but had it been left there, we would have had plenty sharks swarming around right next to a popular swimming beach. and then we go down to the filleting table to put them in the bin and find it in a mess. The afternoon before we had left if clean after we finished filleting but now it it was left a mess and all the bins overflowing. We called the guy who empties the bins and gave them a hand to empty all the bins partly by hand as the truck barely lifts a full offal bin let alone a overflowing one. While we were doing this we came across my #1 hate. A whole bunch of fish that had been killed and just chucked in the bin either half filleted or even whole. If you are not going to eat it don't kill it!!!!
I know most on here are not the ones that do these things. But if ever up this way (or anywhere) and you see anyone doing something that is wrong, dont ignore it. A lot of the time it is just down to them not knowing the local rules anyway. We are lucky to have what we do in the way of resources and facilities up here so we need to look after them both or we will lose them.

Strong Large well priced SP's
Submitted by timboon on Thu, 2014-07-31 00:11Gday FW People....
I'm trying to weed out the crap SP's I have and stick to ones that last... I'm not worried about scents I just want something that can handle more than one decent hit without having its tail chewed...
I have a few Zman 10x and they are the go but can't find them in the sizes and colours I'm after... So if someone has been using something they can recommend, advice will be appreciated...
Also when rigging bigger SP's are guys rigging with keeper hooks? If so how? I thought about somehow using single strand wire but haven't completely come up with a plan as yet...
Cheers

Cockburn Sound crabs
Submitted by Jaggo on Wed, 2014-07-30 15:47Upon hearing the gummy sharks are back in Cockburn Sound in plague numbers like winter and spring every year it's got me wondering. Have they been overlooked as the main culprit reducing the crab numbers? To me it makes sense, crabs are one of their favourite foods, and if there's 100 or even 1000 or more gummies in the sound eating 3 or 4 crabs each on a daily basis over a 6 month period that could be the problem. What do yous think? The sharks have built up in the metro area and we know they don't observe bag or size limits or open or closed seasons.

Lowrance hds8 gen 2
Submitted by Marineboy on Tue, 2014-07-29 18:59I have a hds8 gen 2 that I use solely as a gps/plotter.
When I enter a goto to a waypoint I want the distance to go to be shown on the main chart screen as well as speed, I can get the speed to show up in the top left corner but can't get the dtg to show.
I am running a platinum map card.
Can anyone tell me if this can be done and how.
I have the user manual and have trawled through it and still can't work it out.

Spots for a 3m Dinghy
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Tue, 2014-07-29 18:46I just got myself a 3m Spindrift dingy with a 6hp Tohatsu mainly for river fishing but and am looking for some areas I can go to catch some squid, skippy, KGW and Herring on a calm day like this coming Sat. I live NOR so am thinking Hillarys just between the marina and Wanneroo Reef would be a good start but don't mind driving South either.
Can anyone offer me any advice on areas to check out?

Coral bay help/ advice
Submitted by baron 88 on Tue, 2014-07-29 17:18Hi everyone
we are currently up in coral bay with the boat and after multiple failed attempts things are getting desperate. I'm not to sure what were doing wrong I've spent hours trawling up and down along the back of the reef for nill and many more hours sounding around in the 30 to 50m range without finding and decent ground and only catching a couple of red throat. Tomorrow were planning to head out to the 100 to 150m range to hopefully change our luck. Just hoping that someone could give some good advice on where we should head or possibly even be willing to share a spot, not a secret honey hole just a starting point that we could head to so we at least know we have some decent ground to start on.
Thanks
Reece
