Fishing out wide after the storm - any advice/experience appreciated
Submitted by beeroclock on Tue, 2022-05-24 10:00Looking safe to head out of two rocks tomorrow from around 10 am onwards as swell and wind drops off quick around then. Ive never gone out wide directly after a big storm before cos i know snapper tend to come in close after storms. But what about chasing dhueys and baldies out deep say from 40m -80/90m where we usually go off two rocks? do you think its worth it? or is ocean too stirred up and dirty out there to bother? any advice greatly appreciated

Out with Eric and Alan yesterday
Submitted by uncle on Sat, 2022-05-21 09:06 Out from o reef, marina wall looks good, first fish was bid sambo on a big john's swing head released, Eric got another sambo, then it was a struggle all day, heaps of undersized stuff, saw my smallest dhu and ytk, heaps of undersized pinks and dhus, but we ended up with 2 baddies, 1 pinkie, and a good black arse, good day out, lots of shouting with 3 older deaf guys on board.

Decoy fish
Submitted by Silver Fox on Thu, 2022-05-12 15:56Had a fun session today before the weather gods decided it was time to go home with a rain storm. Three nice Nannies and a Cobia on the soft plastics followed by a GT which ran defense with the sharks letting Captain Banana pants get this Mackie aboard.

Submitted by Curndog on Thu, 2022-05-12 14:05Hi guys,
Just wondering what dongara is like fishing when swell is up? Is it easy enough to get out in 2-2.5m swells? Meant to be going up last week in may weather pending. Have never fished there before

Barra Trip Recommendation
Submitted by Belly Fish on Mon, 2022-05-09 21:20Hi all
I'm keen on doing a fishing trip up north WA or NT with my two boys.
The 2 objectives are to get amongst some Barra and to land a Black Jew....anything else is a bonus.
I've seen a few...Shady Camp, One Tree Beach, Barra Camp, Kimberley Coastal Camp etc. Some live aboard, others stay in a lodge of sorts. Probably looking at around 5 days/nights. Looks like Feb-May is the "season".
Has anyone done a trip like this that they would recommend?
Cheers

Tender squid
Submitted by wagyl on Mon, 2022-05-09 16:25When I go out to restaurants and order deep fried squid, their squid is generally very tender, particularly in chinese restaurants. When I do it at home, it is always chewy. I know that you need to cook it for less than a minute, but it still isn't tender. How do you guys make your squid tender, or is it the cooking process?

Lewmar anchor winches
Submitted by Roughas on Mon, 2022-05-02 08:59I'm having problems -again - with my Profish. Certain components are damaged and the spare parts pricing system makes the mafia look like a benevolent society. Anyone else had problems? They are very easily damaged if the anchor is pulled up too tight into the bow roller/fairlead. I'm working on a possible cheap fix, that, should it work out, I'll be happy to share.

life jacket question
Submitted by Paul N on Sun, 2022-05-01 14:19Just been given a couple of older PFD Type 1 life jackets to use as spares but not sure they are still legal to use . They are marked as Australian Standard AS1512 .
I know there is a newer standard but not sure if AS1512 can still be used .
Thanks Paul

leader size for rubys?
Submitted by telferfish on Thu, 2022-04-28 08:34Anyone experienced bite offs while deep dropping for rubys.recently Fished with 120lb leader and was catching decent rubys 10kg+. A couple of times we hooked what felt the same but bigger ones only to be bitten off after a few minutes. question is should I be using heavier leader or is there other sharp tooth critters down there responsible? definatly did not feel like the fish were sharked dropped fish were typical of popped leader or pulled hooks.
