Acceptable conditions for boating
Submitted by robert1979 on Wed, 2013-09-18 09:37Hello, I've noticed a few posts on here asking for opinions on acceptable conditions for boating. I came across this AMSA document which contains a section on wave size vs boat size which I thought people might find useful. It's pretty general but at least gives an idea of what you will experience especially if you are new to boating.
cheers,
Rob

D9 sunday night 15.9.13
Submitted by Fish guts on Tue, 2013-09-17 18:50anybody on the 9 sunday just gone? we counted literary 50 boats. it was a parking lot. we were near one very vocal bloke shouting all kinds of shit. quite funny. then he pulled a nice pink would have been 90+ cm easy. we didnt even get a bite. the sounder was going off but no fish..... just wondering if anyone else cleaned up? we were there from about 4pm to 8pm. wind died off nicely. next day at work my mate tells me there was a 3.5 m great white out there which was a surprise. certainly wasnt there while we were there.

Father feels fisheries pinch
Submitted by jighead on Tue, 2013-09-17 18:26Can't understand why they put an article in the pinjarra murray times about some bloke complaining because he got caught crabbing out of season. Do they think people will feel sorry for him or is it more to let the general public know it's not on at the moment.

Kununurra Ord River
Submitted by pale ale on Tue, 2013-09-17 15:36Hi guys, Kunno locals, Damo :)
I am leaving for Kunno on Friday and will be spending a couple days camped at Mamby Island with the family. I will have my little tinny to do a bit of fishing, but cant really go too far (leaving the family at campsite). What lures will be the best at this time of year? I have 4 stroke and here in Pilbara do well trolling scorpions.
So, as I have limited space thanks to my lovely family, I only want to bring 1 or 2 trays of lures.
What would you locals put in the tackle box?
Thanks, hope the barra are on the chew!

Diawa Seaborg Megatwin 100 - deep dropping Rods and line
Submitted by Ninety Mile on Tue, 2013-09-17 12:39Hi All,
Just gathering info on deep dropping etc. Have just ordered 2 x Diawa Seaborg Megatwin 1000 reels and require suitable rods and line for fishing 200-250m water, targeting Hapuka. Does anyone have experience with these reels and if so what size line would you recommend and which rods also. I see some opt for the purpose built Dendoh / Tanacom Bull rods, specifically TB 66XHF-DD 198cm rods with curved butt. Look foward to hearing your experiences and advise.
Cheers

Exmouth Late October
Submitted by Jackalchub on Tue, 2013-09-17 09:31Hey guys,
Looking at heading to Exmouth late October through to early November to chase some Billfish, as far as I know there are more Sails in the Gulf around this time with Marlin hanging more on the Western side?
Just trying to establish whether we should base on the West side (Cape Range) or in town to have better access to the Gulf? Any other info about the fishing at this time of the Year would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Almost convinced just to jig? thoughts?
Submitted by dant on Tue, 2013-09-17 07:48Gday All,
Im in a bit of a dilemma and was wondering if you fellahs are thinking or doing the same thing, i have had plenty of heated discussions with my decky on just using jigs when going for Demersals.
i thought i would never leave home without Bait on the boat, but the more and more i get into jigging the more im thinking about leaving the bait at home, the hit rate seems pretty similar, one day it could be bait and one day it could be jigs, but more and more lately they are taking Jigs.
Usually i have one bait bottom boucing whilst jigging, but the time the bait rod takes up (setting the rod, striking, rebaiting, snags etc) i could be could be jigging, increasing the time in the water......
Does anyone else find themself in this situation? what works better for you? i think i just need a little push over the edge to ditch the bait completely, would save me a shit load of time cleaning the boat afterwards if i did.
Cheers all again.

What rope for craypot?
Submitted by Lukem on Mon, 2013-09-16 22:01What is the best rope for craypots? Just ordered some rope online from Nsw thinking it was popypropylene. When it arrived the tag says PE which i assume stands for poly ethylene? From what i've read on internet most prefer poly propylene rope for craypots but i am unable to find any info if poly ethylene would be good as well? Any pros o cons? Cheers luke

Baldie Frames needed
Submitted by Gypsy on Mon, 2013-09-16 14:24Hello fishwreckers!
I am in the search for elusive southwestern baldie frames. Right, everyone can donate one from the Abrolhos, Shark Bay or Jurien, but I am looking for the elusive south ones. Why? I am trying to find out whether baldies are the same population from Coral Bay to Geographe Bay, what direction they move in and where the hell those babies I keep finding in the Perth metro area are coming from. And I now have heaps of frames from the north and the center, but missing the south ones to nail the story. Keen to help? I just need you to give me a call when you catch a baldie anywhere from Hillary's south. I will personally come retrieve the frame, tell you more about my research and even show you how to dissect a fish head. So if you can, give me a shout at 0497849278 or email me at . GYPSY.

Cats at Hillarys - killem all!
Submitted by speedgull on Mon, 2013-09-16 13:50Took the young Speedgull to the northern side of Hillarys marina on Sunday arvo for a quick fish.
All these cats lurking in and around the rocks. What's that all about?
After finished fishing and off to pick up Mrs Speedgull the boy looks at me and goes "what's that smell!" while pulling a face to match the question.
Quick search revealed he'd stepped in cat shiat!
I'm not a cat lover by any measure but seriously what is up with all that. Is this someone's idea of a Seagull containment policy or something.
Who should I call to address this, I mean all that cray bait!

Seagulls
Submitted by Karak on Mon, 2013-09-16 09:15Hi, I just had my worst experience with these birds yesterday at Warnbro Beach.
I was using a big popper from BCF and benn casting it out...... A Seagull swoop and got tangled in line.
Long story short, got the bird out, it flew away.
Has anyone had this experience before?
