New Kayak!
Submitted by beau on Sat, 2011-05-07 18:15Picked up this fishing machine from fellow member benno208 today and with conditions looking awesome for a paddle this arvo I decided to head out to Penguin Island on only my 2nd time on one of these FINN kayaks. Took the little flicky out rigged with a cheap little Starlo & Bushy hardbody and chucked it out behind the yak bout halfway over to the island. Water was real murky and heaps of floating weed probably from the big swell yesterday but i pushed out to the south-east corner of the island. 1st cast and the lure got whalloped by a nice 25cm skippy in only a couple meters of water, my first fish from a kayak and first skippy on a hardbody lure! Couple cast later and the lure got smashed again, this time it was as ive always been bought up as a "rock cod," but i think it is some species of wrasse, a bit bigger than the skippy and was another first on the hardbody. Trolled back to the mainland and picked up a couple of herring.
Pretty happy with the outcome for only about 20mins of actual casting. Think i will invest in a small x-rap or something similar, does anywone have any reccomendations on smaller minnows for targetting herring, chopper tailor, salmon trout, skippy and the like?
My goal for kayak fishing this year will be to get a nice salmon of at least a couple kilos, hopefully a cockburn snapper too if im lucky!

Finally!
Submitted by Richard Snellin on Sat, 2011-05-07 17:21Headed out from Hillary's this morning in less than ideal conditions, however it paid off with me finally getting into some of the tuna action that everyone else seems to have been getting. We hooked about 5 but only got this one to the boat, it took me nearly 40 mins on my Abu 5600 and 2-5kg rod to get him in but it was worth it! My wife is enjoying some fresh sashimi as we speak!!

when is a rod being overpowered??
Submitted by grayzeee on Sat, 2011-05-07 09:13aside from snapping , when is a rod being overloaded??
i was looking at a decent rod and we were loading it right up.
the top 4 eye's were pointing dead straight at the fish so all the fighting power was coming from further down the rod.
i guess it had a faster action but is that normal??

Vacum sealers
Submitted by Tandawg on Fri, 2011-05-06 20:34Hi all, I am contemplating purchasing a vacum sealer for my fish fillets.
Is it a case of "pay for what you get"?
I see some good cheapies on ebay with brands like Maxcon featuring alot.
Any feedback from owners would be appreciated.

Please Help Fuel Useage and Gauge problems
Submitted by gib77 on Fri, 2011-05-06 20:07 I have a 1993 Grady White 24 with a 225 Yami 4stroke, and am having a few fuel issues. Mainly yamaha gauge doesnt seem calibrated/working consistently. I may be getting a air bubble in fuel tank when filling up also, meaning im finding it very difficult to sort out my consumption and amount of fuel left. Thinking of a fuel flow metre, or new sender. I run a lowrance HDS8, so wondering if there is a sender/flow metre that hooks up to it? Any help on subject would be greatly appreciated.

Need advice on new combo purchase
Submitted by Pezdog on Fri, 2011-05-06 10:58Hi guys
Hoping some can help me with my dilemma. Need advice on a new combo I want to buy. Heading down south with my old man and he can use my current old Abu combo and I will buy something new. Heading off the Busso Jetty and a few landbased spots in the bay.
Will be for smallish species. Bream, Whiting, Tailor, Squid and Herring etc for landbased mainly.
Budget hoping for combo around $400 max
Stradic, Luvius etc look good but more direction plus rod selection would be great!!
Thanks in advance guys!
Cheers

Car Turning Circle with Boat
Submitted by PerthGlory on Fri, 2011-05-06 10:55I am designing a new building and carpark in a coastal location.
Carpark must be capable of allowing a car and 22foot boat on trailer to turn 180degrees.
Really a question for all the landcruiser and big boat owners out there. The turning circle of a new landcruiser is 11.8m.
When you hitch a 22 foot boat on the back can you still do a 180degree turn on full lock and turn within the 11.8m
Cheers

Charter for a Bucks Day
Submitted by Pezdog on Thu, 2011-05-05 12:20Hey All
Trying to look into a Bucks Day Fishing Charter. Anyone organised one that went well and has some advice would be greatly appreciated.
Metro area, BYO booze, good crew that doesnt mind a few rowdy boys (tough one I know).
Looking at some good fishing crews that will get everyone onto some fish. Doesn't have to be prize catches just enough to keep them interested for the day.
Cheers
