Fishwrecked Exmouth Holiday House

Hi all

I remember reading awhile ago about a holiday house in Exmouth that was either owned by someone from this forum or was available thru this forum. Any help with this or any other holiday accommodation options in Exmouth for 6 adults, a couple of cars and the boat, would be greatly appreciated as team gates is looking for somewhere to stay in Exmouth for 7 - 10 days over Easter 2012.

Either reply to this post or PM me, thanks.

R51 Pathfinder or 120R Prado

Basically looking at 2-4 year cars, turbo diesel and auto. Budget for about $30k.

My question is....is the 06-08 Prado with the "D4D" motor worth $40k?? Even with around 200000km on the clock?

Ive been looking at 2 yr olds R51 pathfinder with their 2.5L TD motor. On paper they look like what Im after but havent heard much about them. Apparently they are equivalent to the D40 Navara with the same chassis, motor, gear box, etc etc, except being a wagon.

Any feedback on the Pathfinder??

PB bream bunbury

went fishing down my local spot at about 6pm, started throwing out little pieces of prawns and rigged up my rod. had a few runs but no fish untill bang got something that didnt feel like a bream..was a slimey cobbler.back he went and rod back into the water.

after having a few more runs finally managed a nice 28cm bream, he had me on my feet as he dived in and out towards the snags. 2 minutes later had an ever slight nibble and i was thinking dam the blowies are here then the rod bent and i let him take some line and zzzzz this bream went off his trolley..did a 10 metre run out deep(think he was lost for a second:P) then back up the river to a deadly snag, got him out of that one then zzzzz back out again, got him to the bank and yep another run i just could not stop this fish on 4lb leader, this went on for a good 3 minutes. i knew he was a beuty so dragged him along the bank to a little creak and got down and was able to lift him by his belly..i knew staight away this had beaten my previous 38cm..tape measure was out and he came in at 41cm..he was a fat thing too, 6cm wide aross the belly.

crappy picture was taken on my iphone and he was off to fight another day:)the feeling of releasing these beautiful, slow growing fish just makes my day:) good session with catching 7 bream and 2 big cobbler and all released:)

happy fishing, Drew :D

Trolling Gardies

swell

Hi All

Im a new boat owner and keen on sea fishing, Been out of Mindarie once and all was good but wondered if anybody could tell about what conditions to look for. I have a 5 mtr boat and havent got a clue on how much is too much swell and how wind speeds affect the conditions. I was thinking of going out Sat morning but conditions say 2.5 - 3.5 swell and 15 for wind.

all advice would be appreciated.

Cheers Dave

Casting with an overhead - distance

Hi all,

Went to the North Mole on Saturday night and had the experience of trying to cast into the wind with the TN16 and 30lb mono for my first shot at slide baiting.

(Was a bit of a disaster.  My grapnel wouldn't hold so the bait wouldn't slide out.  Was using 5 ounces.)  Also couldn't get much of a cast out.

I am wondering about how far I should be able to cast.

The rig was a TN16 in good condition, Daiwa Sensor Surf Heavy, 30lb mono and when giving it some practice on the oval with a 4 ounce spoon I was getting about 75m with a standard haul it back and punch it forward cast.  Couldn't seem to get any more.  Needing more weight or better technique?  I don't know.

Any comments?

How far can you guys cast with a rig like the one described?

What sort of improvement for a 6 ounce sinker?

Warra Station fishing

Took the wife and kids to Warra Station near Coral Bay for a camping trip, never been before and found the place to be absolutely awesome.

First day fishing caught around 6 Squid and 3 Spanglies that were beaut cooked on a open fire. Second day took me 10footer on other side of reef got spooled on first drop. Re-rigged the Penn and dropped again on a nice ledge within minutes the Rod took of with some huge head pulls. Was hoping for a nice Red but ended up being my PB Spanglie picture doesnt do it justice was around 8 kilo. Once fish was caught my mulie drifter also took off after around 10 minutes i saw  this lovelly Yellowfin Tuna beside the boat but bummer he took another run and my 10 Kilo line snapped, I estimated him to of been around 18 kilo and boy do they fight.

This place is definately on my favourites list the joint is absolutely beautiful and perfect for fishing.

2 Unusual catches

Headed down to the Dawesville Cut today coz I've found that this wild weather seems to turn on the tailor, skippy and salmon trout under the bridge but didnt manage any today, so my brother and I headed down to the estuary end of the groin in the break in the weather.

My brother noticed something unusual sitting at the bottom of the channel just a couple meters out so out went the halco twisty and he managed to jag it and pull it up. Can anyone identify what fish it was and where they are usually caught? Never seen one in the cut and looks like more an offshore species so figured it mightve gotten thrown overboard by a passing boat. It looked to be a pretty solid fish, the head and frame alone was about 3kgs.

He also managed to catch a whiting on the twisty aswell, also something i have never seen done before, and as you could see he was pretty proud of it hehe.

The last picture was a photo taken at the ocean end of the cut.

Hearty Rise Sylphy - 30lb????

Hi guys

I have gotten my hands on a HR Sylphy. It is the older model HRMB6051MH-FT. 1.95 long suited for jigs weighted 20 to 80gram.

I intend using it for light demersal jigging and soft plastics. My question is can I run 30lb Tuf Line XP through it or is the rod really suited to 20lb.

I will be using a 4000 size daiwa on it.

Cheers

Brad

Banded Sweep

Navara upgrade time - but which model?

Guys,

Looking at moving my petrol 2007 navara to a diesel 2010. Mine is currently a STX which is close to the 2010 model ST. The 2010 STX has a 140kw Vs 126kw ST and a little more bling. Otherwise pretty much the same and about $5K difference.

Anyone got one or know of anyone who's got the ST or STX and any opinions on it? Is the extra 14 kw worth the $$$?

I tow the Stabi heaps and do a bit of off road sand work. So the 2.2 tonne on the back makes it work. this has been the biggest killer between the petrol just not having enough grunt (especially beach launching) and looking at auto as the clutch just isn't up to scratch in the older models. Apparently Nissan is saying that there has been 8 upgrades in the clutch in just over 2 years.

Any help willl be great.

Soft Plastics Beginner...needs help!

 Hi Guys,

used softplastics for the first time on the weekend, just got a few questions.

I'm using 4lb Aijiking line with 1/8 jigheads size 4 hook, not sure on the plastics I got but the fella at Anglers Spot recommended them for Canning/Swan. I had absolute no problem casting out my problem was the line kept snapping after every 20 or so casts....the knot was not becoming undone but it was snapping just near the jig head like as if the strain was causing it too snap after many casts. Am I supposed to be using a leader? I really enjoy this style of fishing but if i'm gonna be going through a pack of jigheads in one session it may send me broke haha.

On the plus side I did land a Flathead just under a jetty using the plastics, funnily enough as I got it onto the shore the line snapped! If you could give me some advice on what I may be doing wrong or if you could give me any tips that would be great.

Cheers,

Langerz

Tiagra 30WLSRA versus ???

I'm looking at updagrading with a new reel.

I currently have a TLD15, 25 and Tiagra 16. All spooled with Braid (10kg and 2 x 15kg).

I want to setup a decent trolling outfut and was thinking about a tiagra 30WLSRA, rigged with 24kg.

This is pretty expensive, so will probaby team it wup with 24kg backbone  t-curve (cheaper than the Shimano tiagra rod).

Plan is to use this for trolling the FADs and exmouth.

Any tips for whether to use braid, mono or braid with a mono topshot?

Is it worth spending the extra $$ on a Tiagra, or should I save a bit of coin and just go for a TLD30 or similar?

Squidding Last night. Pics

Hey all.

With a sort of busy day i was laying on the couch and was board as so my mate walks over and says you wanna got for a fish? hell yer.

Got my squidding gear organised and though might as well tie the knots down there and get on the road as fast as. Got to woodies and started tieing the knot but it wouldnt work so i was getting quite annoyed. Finaly got the knot right put on a 3.0 yamashita glow white squid jig and got to a spot where we were going to hang for a while. I said to my mate how funny would it be if i got a squid first cast and make that three squidding session in a row, forth twitch bang on i was like mate im on he didnt believe me untill it was spraying ink in the air haha go me.

Had a few flicks around and moved up and down the rock wall every couple of casts. Got a cuttlie and a squid then went back to the spot where my mate was and asked if he got any herring he said no so i had a cast and bang got a squid then cast out again and got another squid. My mate snagged and chucked in the towel. A strom then started making its way in so he bailed to the car while i kept squidding. I got another couple on my Yamashita Naory 2.2 runge hunter.

I ended up with 7 squid not huge but big enough to eat and a cuttle fish so not bad for a 2 and a half hour flick. I have some photos but my good computer died on me so im stuck with the crap one so cant upload pics but i will be able to at my dads tomorrow night. Just ate all the squid and it was YUMMY!!! Ill never get sick of squid mmmm.

Cheers Danno.
