FISHBROOME?
Submitted by chriso 308 on Thu, 2011-05-12 15:57I'm heading up to broome in a couple of weeks and i have booked a charter with fishbroome to take us reef fishing.
I only picked them because I have seen them on iFISH , Mark Berg ,ET and a couple of other shows.
are they the pick of the charters?
do i take my own gear?
I've been reading a lot of Exmouth charter horror stories of hand lines and shit food and morons that no less than me about fishing !
I'm hoping these guys aren't like that?
does anyone have anything to put my mind at ease?

Greenies Big Idea Has A Monumental Flaw.
Submitted by Howard George on Thu, 2011-05-12 15:45It would not come as any great surprise to anyone that the green movement want the public that eat fish to rely on fish from fish farms to supplement their diet than fish from the natural marine environment but an environmental think tank has produced a report which raises fears about the effects of fish farming. This can be viewed by going to abc.net.au/environment and clicking on" ocean and reefs" Sustainable Fish Farms but what they're saying is that fish farms are not sustainable because they rely on fish that are used for food from the natural marine environment and that the polution that they create destroy the environment. For this reason as part of my submission to the federal Environment Minister I'll be requesting that the ammount of Sanctuary Zones in the Southwest Zone " 76% "be reduced to aid the fishing industry put fresh fish on the table. I'm thinking "50% " reduction.

MALDIVES!!!
Submitted by chriso 308 on Thu, 2011-05-12 15:37Can anyone tell me anything about fishing in the Maldives?
I'm going there in Nov and want to know do i take some rods and tackle? or can i hire a decent charter when I'm there I'd like to do both but would rather not bother if it is crap.
can you fish from the bank or over water bunglows?
what sort of money are they asking for charters?
I can't seem to find to much info about the place ( fishing wise ) on the net , does anyone have any advice for me?

Be aware.
Submitted by Brody on Thu, 2011-05-12 11:49Here is a link to the proposed Perth Canyon zone which is pencilled in to become a Multiple use zone, which will exclude things like Scallop Trawling and Demersal Gill Netting etc, and allow Rec's to fish as per usual. If this goes ahead it will be great. But be prepared as I can see the Greens fighting pretty damn hard for this area, which, as you can see spans an area very popular with Northern Suberbs fishos.
All i'm saying is don't be content with the map that you've seen and sit on you're hands, be pro-active and make a submission.

Stupid,stupid,stupid
Submitted by 3315B on Thu, 2011-05-12 07:26Page 9 in The West Australian today.
Oh dear
The trio were lucky to escape with their lives after nearly being swept off the rocks at Salmon Holes on Friday. Last month 18-year-old Mohammad Reza Mirzaie drowned at the same location.
Albany Sea Rescue Squad member Murray Martin captured a series of dramatic images of a king wave engulfing the men on the notoriously slippery rocks.
Miraculously, the men managed to keep their feet. After that they continued fishing.
"When it hit them I just thought, 'Here we go, we're going to have to do a search here'," Mr Martin said.
"It just astounds me that these people are so thick. How damn stupid can they be?"
ASRS president Jason Howard described the actions of the fishermen as "utter stupidity" and said they were doing "everything wrong".
"They had no flotation, they're wearing heavy clothes, they turned their back to the water and they're standing on wet slippery rocks," Mr Howard said.
"They were extremely lucky not to get washed off, all three of them."
After 15-year-old Nathan Drew drowned at Salmon Holes in 2003, a trust was formed to improve safety along the south coast.
Chairman of the Nathan Drew Memorial Trust, Theo Newhouse, said it was "devastating" to see people still fishing at Salmon Holes.
"There's no need to fish off those rocks, it's just too risky," he said.
"The chances of those men surviving if they went in were very, very small. Very small."
Mr Newhouse said the trust's safety message seemed to get through after Mr Mirzaie's death on April 2 but a small number of people continued to risk their lives by fishing off the rocks instead of the nearby beach.
He said he knew of 18 people who had slipped into the water at Salmon Holes in the past 12 months but were able to escape with the help of the flotation devices that the trust provides on site.
"(All those people) were very lucky to survive," he said.

rod collection
Submitted by JIM1 on Wed, 2011-05-11 19:22just having a pre winter cleanup in the shed and got suprised by how many rods i have collected. ive dug up
3ft 6in yak rod
5ft old school boat rod
2 6fters
6ft 6in flicky
8ft GP
10ft beach rod (from the dinosaur era)
12ft beach rod
ive only got 4 reels, any one advise on some cheap reels for these rods to finish off this collection?
also after another beach rod combo, im pretty good with casting but i find with the 12fter you cant get a whole lot of flick with it and want something i can belt a bait out with to set for the biggins that lurk out the back of the break.

2012 FW Exxy comp
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Wed, 2011-05-11 11:23Hi Crew,
Had a few Q's about 2012 Exxy FW comp so thought I'd put up some dates that I'm thinking and ask a few questions:
When are the Easter (term 1) school holidays for 2012?
What are the Easter dates?
For 2012 I'm thinking of capping the invitational at 20 boats, nice and manageable. All previous teams get a spot if they want one but I may consider a few extras depending upon circumstance.
The dates I'm pretty locked on are:
Saturday 14th April, Sunday 15th April and Monday 16th April 2012:
Sat 14th:
4am : 1.9m
9.30 : 1.3m
4pm : 2.2m
11pm : 1.1m
Sunday 15th
5.30am : 1.8m
10.45am : 1.4m
5.30pm : 2m
Monday 16th
12.30am : 1.2m
7.30am : 1.8m
1.30pm : 1.5m
7.30pm : 1.9m
Awesome tides for easy retrieval in the afternoons and lowish for launch but still no dramas. Half moon on the lead up which is my pick for surface activity, rising tide for 2 of the days throughout most of the day and one day with a dropping tide in the arvo (take your pick which is best, I know which I want.... :)) ) Only consideration is coral spawn for surface activity, but I'm sure that it won't be too big a drama and is really too hard to factor in.
I will put up another post when these dates are locked in, so please don't book just yet.
Cheers,
Adam

exmouth drama
Submitted by just dhu it on Tue, 2011-05-10 21:48we spent the past few days in Exy , Deckie and mate Deano and myself, today we ventured out 12 miles south of the south pasage to escape the winds trolling most of the way down until we came across a good section of ground holding fish, we anchored up and caught a few good fish , when Deano complained of a severe headache and sat down for a while, we started dragging the anchor so it was time to reset the anchor , as we prepared to carry this out , we found out that Dean could hardly speak or move , we feared he was suffering a stroke,
we up anchored and headed back to the south pasage in average conditions and then fast run up the inside, Deans condition was getting worse so we tried to radio EXY sea rescue and found out that they dont work weekdays , we then made contact with a dive charter boat , who then contacted the blue water dive shop in town and had contacted us direct and an ambulance was sent to meet us a Tantabitti ramp , the charter boat also informed us that they had oxygen , and de fib machine and would meet us inside at the ramp .
we made it to the ramp with several calls from both blue water dive shop and then exy police and the charter boat to check on our friends condition and progress. Both the charter boat and us arrived at the ramp at the same time with the ambulance 10 minutes away, the charter boat sent their rib over and two staff over to assist us in getting Dean of the boat which was not easy with a big guy whos not quite concisicious
we put our boat on a mooring and transfered Dean into their rib and put him on oxygen until the ambulance arrived, we managed to beach the rib on the side of the tantas ramp ,then we all transfered dean into the ambulance.
Deckie then went with Dean in the ambulance back to hospital and i returned to my boat to retrieve it. Lucky for me there was another F W memeber bringing their boat up and they all gave me a hand to retrieve my boat. so a big thanks goes out to them as i didnt have much time to talk.
Dean was stabilised in hospital and then a RFDs plane flew him back to perth several hours later where tonight he is in good hands at SCGH
I would like to thank all those concenerd in Exmouth who assisted us , the dive charter skipper and staff, the dive shop and police who all bought it together when needed, it also shows how important a radio ,contacts and assistant from nearby services
Once again , a big thanks to all mike and rob

new to perth fishing
Submitted by JIM1 on Tue, 2011-05-10 19:42hey all, ive been a keen fisher on my once a year holidays down south and have only started to kit myself up a bit better for more fishing trips.
im after a few locations where i can go in perth metro. big fan of beach fishing, never really tryed river.
beaches up and down perth with carparks close by, preferable with lights for a bit of added security.
caught salmon, rays and a few gummys off the beachs down south but was wondering if this differs in the metro?
Cheers
