Your biggest ass kicking from a fish?
Submitted by cuthbad on Wed, 2011-02-23 00:06I just commented on an old post of mine that I got my ass handed to me tonight by a 200kg plus ray. After one hour and 45 mins I f----d up and lost it. Lack of patience and experience.... As I said in the post, a very humbling experience.
It made me wonder though, what are your best stories of the ones that got away? be it human error, bad luck, or just being seriously undergunned.... Getting spooled, bitten off, massive fights only to have a knot pull?
Theres gotta be some great stories out there lets hear em!

Old Fart Rant at Tradies
Submitted by UncutTriggerInWA on Tue, 2011-02-22 21:04OK so it's not about fishing but it is about the vehicle I use to get there. FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To cut a very long story short my Disco has developed over-heating problems for a while now. Me being me I have stressed about this and done some credible reasearch and had some paid professional opinion. The advice I got was that the radiator was blocked. OK so now I have to spend some bucks. I call in a radiator specialist to look at the problem and it quickly turns out without even so much of an effort that my radiator was fucked so I needed to spend $900 on a replacement. OK, so fuck it. It has to be done.
Ok so now it gets interesting. The labour charge is over $100 per hour for a guy who looks like his last shower was a week ago. I live 60kms from where I work. The cockhead drives off after taking out the radiator and rings me saying he will see me tomorrow. FFS!!!! Like I want to sleep in my warehouse???? Anyway, he comes back after a few threats and installs a new radiator. I only have 50% of the cash so he threatens to do something as his boss will not be happy. Anyway, that's another story LOL. He was paid at 7:30am next morning. A bit like a late payment on drugs albeit I haven't been in that situation but I do have Foxtell LOL.
OK so since then my Disco has been running sluggish and burning fuel. Also still overheating. The dickhead cretin radiator man suggests I need to rip off the head and get it fixed/replaced. Not a small task as it requires about $4000 if the head is fucked like he suggests. I panic and book an appointment with my favourite guys as Discovery Automotive to further diagnose the problem. On the way there my car shits itself on the Mitchell freeway with no power and black smoke pissing out of the rear. A bit like James Bond with his smoke screen up LOL.
So I limp to Wangarra at 20kms with smoke. Guys take a look and confirm that the problem is most likely turbo related (I thought this initially). Booked it in for a $400 hose replacement fix. FFS!!!!!!!!! 2 hoses and 1/2 hour of work?????? Anyway. Missus is spewing so I put on my superman cape and go in for the kill. Investigations under the bonet in my driveway taking 10 minutes and a lot of swearing reveal that the cockhead radiator man has left a hose clip off the turbo pipes! FFS!!!! 100 liters of diesel and a lot of fucking stress and embarrasment on the freeway. Intially it would seem that air was pissing out of a loose connection and then ultimatley, the hose blew off and I had fuck all turbo boost at all and an engine that needed ventoline!
Anyway, it's a good laugh for you lot but take heed. Do not trust these bastards and do not be misled. I needed a degree to charge what they charge and my trade is blue-chip so to speak. What gives the tradies to right to charge what they do now and not provide a quality of service????????
OK fuck it.. The rant is over and I am going to bed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope it was not as bad as it looked
Submitted by allrounder on Tue, 2011-02-22 18:50 I also hope it was no one from the forum either that had a bit of a mishap on the freeway tonight.A white 80 series towing a blueish ali boat about 6.2 long flipped the trailer near hodges drive.Looked a bit messy but dont think anyone would have been injured except maybe a dented pride and a few scrapes on the starboard side.![]()

Carnarvon Flooding.
Submitted by Elora Danan on Tue, 2011-02-22 07:17Hey guys,
For the people who live/work up in the Carnarvon area, how are you doing? Is it all going well? I'm just curious on how badly the water movements and rain has damaged the area. Myself and a few friends are heading up in a couple weeks and just seeing if it is possible for us to get up there for a fish.
Kind regards.

prawning light in progress
Submitted by fisho-ron on Mon, 2011-02-21 21:31hi guys
just got my new lights for prawning this year(still in progress)
60 led's per meter, submergable, 1.2amp draw per meter
i am running 4x 2.5mtrs strips on a pvc pipe setup that hangs of the towing hooks at the back of the boat, alot better than the halogens i tried a few weaks ago, with much less amp draw.
will try to get some in water shots soon and put up some pics.
bring on the prawns!!!
cheers

Submitted by grayzeee on Mon, 2011-02-21 21:20crap thread alert!! which do you prefer ??
went up to sandy cape the weekend just gone for a camp and beach fish.
wasn't expecting much fish wise bar a ray or two off the beach next to camp.
managed to get some bull herring on the bite later in the eve tho , and took one for breakky.
got to say , i prefer herring over tailor any day. it was fantastic , scaled and pan fried in salt and pepper and oil.

Ballooning
Submitted by Bisho on Mon, 2011-02-21 15:31Hi all,
Went fishing over the weekend off a little rock shelf I found a bit North of Leeman. Didn't have much time so I only pulled out the light gear, snagged a little Skippy and a couple of herring around 30 - 35cms. (I think that's a good size for herring isn't it?) I also caught some colourful little numbers that I didn't recognise, it had spots up top and stripes/blotches on it's body, colouring was black, yellow and silver, serious gill rakers and some nasty little spines up top and underneath. Anyone know what these were?
I released everything I caught anyway but the second part of this query is ballooning. This ledge I was on looked prime to drift out a balloon with a small herring or skippy on live, has anyone done this up that way? What would the possibility of a lurking spaniard be like?
Still relatively new to WA so any advice is appreciated!
