Wondering whether anyone can answer this.

Last time I went out night fishing we got our 2 dhu limit pretty quickly and then started targeting other species.

However later in the night we got another dhuie as bycatch. The fish was stuffed and I very much doubt it survived, but I tried to release it anyway as we already had out limit.

It wasnt until the next day that I wondered whether I was able to keep it, as by the time we had returned to shore it was 3am.

Given that we started fishing around 8pm the day previously, could we have kept it given that we were out there over 2 days and 3 fish is less than 2 days limit?

Are there some tell-tale signs that fish are safe to eat or not?

I took the kids fishing last week near Lilac Hill Reserve (Guildford). We caught a few almost sized black bream (on whole river prawns) which were released, but just wondering if any sized ones would be OK for eating that far up river?  They want to go again this weekend and the plan is to hunt around for some sized ones to take home for the plate if possible.

Hey guys i am looking at getting a seat made up from stainless tube, with a seat on top and enough room for an esky to fit underneath. Maybe a swing away lumbar support, back to front.

Does anyone have some pics or any experience with these.

goin canning bridge tonight lookin for any tips and wandering weather it is worth takin the crab pot

over  a very long period of time  there have been many anecdotal storys regards interaction/conflict  with commercial demersal gill net operators …
The main areas seem to be the west and south coast inshore areas ,but other places as well  along the coast

im very interested to gather information on any incidents/accounts  that you have experienced out on the water , since the metro area was closed to commercial fishing these incidents seem to be increasing in other places

Many rec fishers have voiced an ongoing concern at the conflict that has occurred , with these operators and the locations they are targeting  im looking to collect as much info on these as possible

while I recognise they can legally conduct their operations at present , and scale fish are a legal catch not bycatch using this method .. …it’s the conflict accounts im most interested in ..one on one accounts with them out on the water

good information would be ,LFB  boat numbers /names … video , pictures of occurrences and  short written account …. , dates times etc ….even if its as simple as  a picture of their gear set with id number visible…… to identify the licenced owner

Looks like it could be north of Port headland, unless it changes path. Now expected to be a cat 3 cyclone by 8am Friday but still  hundreds of kms from shore.

Heopfully it doesnt swing to the south, and line up Canarvan.

Am intending to visit and fish Quobba station in April . Can anyone put me on the right track about fishing there. Tks and rgds Teago

Low puerulus counts meant low and declining lobster stock and catch rates over the next years.

Well in cervantes at the moment they have never seen crays like it ever! Since the beginning of the season catches were above average but now its something else. The thompson boats have a 500kilo a week limit, others are only pulling 20 to 30 pots a day. Yesterday the bloke i know pulled 30 pots for 35 crays a pot average!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats almost a crate a pot! To give you some perspective 'you'd be jumping for joy at 4 a pot"

The fishermen are reducing their catches now hoping the price will rise to a higher price towards the end of the season.

just a question on  the fanky jigss just wondering what is the best point to run the hooks of to or bottom ?

Could have bagged out our 12 in 1 dive the other day but every cray was full of berries. Tried a couple of different spots, 20m and 16m same story everywhere. Certainly a nice way to spend a hot morning though swimming around under the water. Going to hit the 3 mile tomorrow and see whats about.

Iv'e never been there but going up to live so ill have to buy a new setup, not to sure on the whole bait casting style but i might have to make the swap.. any help would be good.. im more of a land based angler than anything, not to fussy with prices i like to have good gear.. cheers

I have 2 breaming lures:
a river 2 sea Baby rover (http://www.mylureshop.com/p/999804/river2sea-baby-rover-50.html)
and a Berkley 3B Scumdog

both surface walking lures.

I cannot get the correct swimming action on either of these lures are there any tricks or tips to improve technique to allow the side to side action?

Also is there a preffered knot you have to tie to the lure (eg a loop knot) to allow this action to work at the moment im using a uni-kont?

Gday all, just thought id post this up to see if it belonged to anyone on here or anyone you know.

Found it on the side of the Old Vasse Hwy near Pemberton last Thursday. Looks like its from a Malibu kayak(mini x maybe?). Four locks on it. 

34.5cm x 26.5cm.

Went along some of the campsites along heartbreak trail, but no one seemed to have a kayak to suit.

With the jetty closed I only got a chance to fish the beach

Well got this ray on a 5kg stick and 10 pound line

as well as a 35 cm tailor

Thinking it might be an idea to try and help out our QLD folk. Maybe a fishing comp to try and raise some coin? Could have an entry fee etc

I wouldn't be the man to organise this as the logistics could be a nightmare and i'm a fairly simple meat and 3 veg bloke. But if anyone has organised something similar before it may have some legs.

Not sure how it would go and how much we could raise but I would be keen to decky or if landbased I could be tempted. Just an idea.

i am planing a crab fish for this weekend thought i would try the swan for the first time  i am going to try up around the canning bridge

can any one advise if the tides effect the crabbing in the swan

Hey all i got back from a holiday from esperance. My goal for the week was to get a big squid.

Day one: Set up camp had some food and a drink then walked to the jetty for a squid. 6 casts later and i had one, only small but enough for the following days fishing. Walked half way and someone have a massive squid in there bucket so i asked if i could have a look and it was 35cm hood. I didnt see another squid that day.

Day two: Went down to the jetty at 7 and it was packed. Stayed for a while then bailed.

Day three: Went for a day squid and got two. The first one i got i had a smaller squid sitting behind my jig so i let the jig hover. Then the little bolted away so i was like dam, but a 20+ hooded squid came from under the jetty and nailed it.

Day four: 42 degress the whole day then in the after noon a storm came through. Pretty heavy rains and some strong winds. About 7:30 i think the storm slowed for a while so i ran to the jetty and stared flicking the jig around got a cuttle fish straigh away. That was a first for me. Walked over to the next light and jigged the jig twice and a squid raced over and nailed it. Went on to get another 3 squid two of which where 22cm hoods. I dispatched the last squid stood up ready for another cast and the tail of the storm came through. Dam i was at the end of the jetty. Oh well got soaked.

Day five: Went for a flick around alot of people squidding but with cheap jigs. I asked them all if they got anything but they all said nar not much around. I was like ohk that sucks, walked a little along the jetty and got one dropped the jig again and got it's mate. Everyone didnt like me at that point.

Day six: No one was on the jetty so i walked out there around 8. I started talking to some guy thats was walking past about all sorts of fishing then i hooked up to a 23cm hooded squid. Nothing else from that light so walked down the jetty a little bit and dropped my jig out the coner of my eye i sore a squid dart out and grab my jig, i took it off put it on the floor dropped my jig again and got another, then another, got three with in a minute, only smaller ones tho the guy i was talking to had enough so went in. I walked down the jetty in closer a bit and got a cuttlefish. I then walked to the light where i just got the smaller ones and jigged it a few times and got a small one. I put it on the floor iki jimi'd it and dropped my jig back down. straight away the rod bent over and a little bit of drag got pulled, i knew that it was a big one then. Got it in and was speechless it was 29.5cm hooded and fat as. There was know one on the jetty to take the pic with me and the squid so i was annoyed oh well. That was the end of that day with 6 squid and a cuttle fish.

The rest of the trip it was windy so know more squidding. I have turned 10 people into expensive jig believers lol. so many people using cheap jigs and only one or two catching haha.
