A bit of fun on the swan
Submitted by Xtreme Coolers on Sun, 2011-01-16 17:19Hi all. I went down to the Swan yesturday for a bit of fun and in the hope of getting a flattie or two. We started down at the bottom of the Coombe. My mate Andrew picked up a nice Flounder on the fly. With not much more to offer and a lot of bloeies smashing the plastics, we decided to head to Chidley point. We arrived to find a lot of people there and a hell of a strong SW. With this in mind we headed for Mosman bay foreshore. With the sun going down and a lot more shelter from the SW i managed to pick up a nice flattie. Happy with a small feed we headed home for a nice cook up.
Lots of blowies, wind, a very high tide, drunk people on big boats and a few fish in the esky, we had a bit of fun on the swan.
The highlight was watching a stripper do her stuff on a near by cray boat. Topped off with a few beers and we were happy.
Get out there and enjoy.

Jighead weights when bottom bouncing
Submitted by r.gates on Sun, 2011-01-16 13:39Hi all
When we've been fishing lately out from The Cut, we've been bottom bouncing baits in around 40 - 45m of water and we've been using the standard paternoster rig with a sinker weight between 7 - 10oz. I'd like to try some soft plastics but I'm wondering whether I need to buy 7 - 10oz jigheads. I know it's reasonable to expect to use the same jighead weight as a normal sinker weight, but I can't ever remember seeing any jigheads this heavy in the local tackle stores in Mandurah.
Have I just flat out missed seeing them or do the rules change when fishing with SP???
I did try a soft plastic threaded onto a 3/0 hook and attached it to one of the paternoster hook loops and although it didn't catch anything, I thought the idea was sound.
Your comments greatly appreciated, thanks.
regards
rusty...

"No Excuse For Breaking Rules"
Submitted by Silk200611 on Sun, 2011-01-16 13:20I m writing this after reading the "weekend west" after returning from a camp out last night marroning up Moore riv..
I read the paper and in the article on page 41. It saying the fisheries is going too or already have a more obvious fisheries presence... Well we camped out from early yesterday till this morning, so lil over 24 hours.. We were only a few kms off the hwy and didn’t see fisheries AT ALL.. I now that they would be more concerned about the dams down south for the marron. But it wouldn’t he too hard to get 2 fisheries officers that live close by to pay a visit to the camp sites along the Moore River. We weren’t the only group that was unhappy we didn’t see fisheries at all in like a lil over 24h..
Fisheries have to get out there more as news paper articles don’t and will not do their jobs for them..
After that we had a good night had 8 people with marron licenses and managed I think 16 big marron and “HEAPS” of small ones which went back inn for next year.. The river system looks very healthy water clean and running and seen loads of small fish and big mullet and also seen a cobbler or two.

Twinpower fb 4000 Jigging rod Advice
Submitted by Captain Grumpy on Sun, 2011-01-16 10:30Morning all,
Im looking to do some light/shallow water jigging (small knife jigs, fankys, pirates etc) this year at the Abroholos in late April this year.
I have my Twinpower 4000 loaded with 20lb fins braid and matched to a tcurve 5-10kg as a lure combo if anything swims past ready to go.
However, Im thinking that the Tcurve might not be ideal for jigging purposes and would like some opinions and thoughts on what would be a good Jigging rod (pe 1-2 maybe?) to purchase. (looking at a $300-$400 max budget.)
Also, would it be stretching the friendship if i loaded the spare 4000 spool with 30lb fins? would the Twinpower handle it? or am i better off getting a 6000 type reel?

Buying dive gear in singapore
Submitted by Oracle on Sat, 2011-01-15 23:37Gang,
Myself and Michelle are in Singapore with family and friends and ran into some dive stores. On checking them out, they seem to be reasonably cheap VS Aussie stores. Could any of you let me know if it's worth picking up BCs, regs and gear?
Being very new to this, maybe a good brand and what I'd expect to pay and then we can barter. Are there brands t not go near?
Any advice
Cheers

Thanks Faulkner Family
Submitted by Shane O on Sat, 2011-01-15 19:36I would just like to say thanks for the advice in getting my starter motor seen to by a mechanic, it ended up only needing some bushes replaced.
$80 later and we are back on the water, could have been a lot worse if I tried to fix myself. By the way Arthur Page fixed it for me, he does all my servicing.

FISHING WA Deep water episode
Submitted by Frank F on Sat, 2011-01-15 15:45Hi all,
I have been targeting Harpuka, Bass Groper, Blue eye Trevalla and Grey banded Cod and find it very challenging. I am very interested in finding all the ins and outs of catching these big buggers. I have done a couple of trips now with little success a part from the usual Green Eye pests and large Leather Jackets.
Just a heads up that the Fishing WA Deep water episode is on tomorrow at 2:30pm.

demersal jig rod Hearty Rise jig force or Daiwa Demon Blood 64 CJ
Submitted by ricey on Sat, 2011-01-15 15:44Just wondering if anyone has used the Demon blood? I picked it up in a store the other day and really liked it. Obviously the hearty rise is also great. love some feedback if you have any. About the same price. Using to jig up to 150 g jigs in roughly 50 m, and lighter conditions permitting. To be matched with Twinpower 4000 FB running 30lb fireline. Hearty rise a bit shorter and perhaps worse for jigging plastics (would do this a little too)
hearty rise - 5'8" Spin PE 1.5-3.0, Max Jig Wt 120gm
Daiwa Demon Blood -Length 6'4 (193cm) 2 Piece - Line PE 2 to 4 - Lure Weight 60 to 120g - Action Medium Light - Taper Regular
I like the idea of a two piece for travel and the Demon blood may have a shade more backbone with its rating up to PE4??
Love any feedback. Write up of demon blood below.
Daiwa Saltist Demon Blood fishing Rod
Using the latest graphite’s and specialized composites, the new Daiwa Saltist Demon Blood fishing rods open up a whole new world of fishing possibilities.
By using Bias Wrap Construction for an ultra strong, fine diameter blank the daiwa demon blood fishing rods resist twisting, improve casting accuracy and have greater hook setting power. Being so light these guides really accentuate the blanks characteristics delivering crisp responsive performance, ultimate power and allows for effective line heat dissipation.
The new Daiwa Demon Blood fishing rod uses the simple principle of “more muscle and less fat” to produce a fantastic range of saltwater rods.
Features of the Daiwa Demon Blood fishing rods:
* Bias Wrap construction blanks
* V-Joint on 2pce models
* Fuji’s premium Silicone Carbide New Concept guides
* Heavy duty Fuji reel seats with locking rings

Reel opinions
Submitted by Captain Grumpy on Sat, 2011-01-15 12:49Hello all.
First time poster, long time ghoster.
if money was no object and you had the choice to purchase any rod and reel combo, what would it be?
i understand the the Stellas/Saltigas etc will get a bit of a mention, but i want to talk about the old faithful, cant beat it, had it since before i was born type of combo.
My dad swears by his 1970s Mitchel spin with a even older Dunlop 9 ft rod and says that they dont make reels like that any more, and then proceeds to bag me out about my twin power and tcurve set up and how much of a waste of money it was and that i should track down a combo like his!!

WARNING: Seller beware!!
Submitted by Brucesta on Fri, 2011-01-14 15:58I'm in the process of selling my boat and i posted it on Boatsonline.com.au and within a few hours i had a emails asking if the boat was for sale, so no worries i jumped quick as to get a good result.
His typing wasn't too crash hot but the name seemed foriegn so i accepted that, he asked about the condition of the boat, service history etc etc so i gave him the word and said i'm open to negotiation.
I said i can take photo's and he was all for it then he emailed back saying he wanted a pick up address for his shipping agent (freight company for us aussies...) i was suss already and told him to call me, his call dropped out/hung up saying he works offshore, suprise i work in the same industry and i told him that but he didn't acknowledge in the email just that he is happy to pay 35k straight up without negotiating one bit, even more suss.
He then asked for my paypal details (i didn't think you could send 35k on paypal, probably can't) i told him if he's to buy it his bank can send the cash to my bank, so i gave him my account details, he then said his bank cannot release the funds until i pay his "shipping agent" 950 bucks to secure transport (man i got quotes today for 3k from Perth to K-Town, 950 won't get it to darwin)
then i was sure i was been had and sure enough after speaking to a work colleugue he has seen the same on aviation sites, details below.
The bank said there is no threat to me since i didn't pay anything and he can't use my accounts but they are watching them all just in case. so Seller Beware
I think someone just tried to scam me.
It started a week ago when I received an email enquiring about my aircraft which is for sale on this site and the RAAus magazine. The magazine reference number was quoted.
He called himself Reinhold Brecht (from a German email, .de) and asked if the plane was still for sale.
I replied yes, and there was then an exchange of several emails re engine, general condition, avionics etc.
He then offered to pay my full asking price (no haggling) and advised that the sale would be conditional upon his LAME inspecting the aircraft.
OK so far.
He then advised he would send his LAME from England and wanted to deal via Paypal.
Next he advised he had sent the deposit to my Paypal account and it would be pending. All I had to do was send the 2500 Pounds to his LAME via Western Union. He has apparently included the LAME's payment with my deposit.
When I told him I didn't have that sort of money lying around, he then became insistent that it happen now, and that I should perhaps borrow it as I would have it returned within 24 hours.
At this point I sent him a rude email suggesting that the ruse was up, and that I wasn't sending my money anywhere.
Beware of this. He is good, and appears to know his aircraft speak.
I will also report this to RAAus.
If something appears to be too good to be true, then it probably is.
This was an email from one of the guys on the flying forum

Small legal size
Submitted by GrahamM on Fri, 2011-01-14 15:55Gday i was wondering if anyone else feels the same way about the legal size of crabs is the legal size too small? I went crabbing the other day with my brother and the kids down Manduah and yes we did get our 20 but i usually dive for them and only get big ones. Here is a pic of 20 in the esky but they seem small to me but i assure you they were all legal size or bigger.
