Just after some suggestions of charters leaving Freo, my buddy and I are wanting a half day out on the water for a general reef mission. Cheers !

Weekend Fishing in Exy

Managed to get into some fish on the weekend. Scored the Marlin while trolling a turbo head skirt at 14knots, was an epic hookup. Also on same day got a double header of Rankin, was reeling my line in flat out and got slammed 10m off bottom, called it for a shark at first.

Last pic was what I got in 4 drops out from Tantas.

Ch 7 news last night

Did anyone see the clip on ch 7 news last night that showed a boat being circled by one very large great white the people in the boat said they thought it to be about 6 metres, now that is one very large fish

anyone know when are the fads getting pulled?

I heard its going to be this week, but does anyone know what day?

also, if anyone knows what fads are missing, or not in their correct spot would be grouse!

I tried PGFC site and a bit of facey-googling, but not much info on which day.

who actually pulls them? RFW? PGFC? Fisheries? Dept of Transport?

cheers

Shelter Bay - June Trip Expression of Interest

Howdy,

A few mates and I are heading to Shelter Bay for a fishing trip for a week in June. First night there is Sunday 9th June and we'll be heading back on Sunday 16th June.

We have campsite Easter 2 booked, which can take a maximum of 12 people, but at this stage we only have 4 of us in 1 boat.

Although I have a 7.5m twin engine boat, we'd be very happy to have another group join us at our camp so we have 2 boats to convoy for safety.

Let me know if anyone is keen. We travel up in 2 cars...1 with boat and 1 with trailer. We leave on Saturday and stay overnight at the Useless Loop turnoff, before splitting with the boat going to Denham to motor over.

We've been a few times now, so have the process pretty much sussed. I can provide more details if you are interested.

Cheers

Belly

A historical question

I’m not To clued up on these sorts of things so please forgive my ignorance on such a matter, so here is my question, when shops close from what I have seen they hold a stock clearance auction, after the tackle shop Oceanside Tackle I think it was called closed last year did they hold a stock clearance auction or sale.

Just wondering as they had a huge amount of gear and I thought I may be able to get a bargain at an auction, I appreciate that is looking to get a bargain at someone else’s expense however that is the situation and not caused by any action of mine

Fishing Batubulan

Managed to get to Bali for the first time with the family even though I’d been on the operating table having my bicep tendon reattached just 9 days earlier and can’t put any load heavier than a glass of water on it so on our last day I asked a few locals if they could take my oldest boy out fishing inside the reef with my watching and they just weren’t keen unless we booked it for 4 hours and paid full price for two so my cousin suggests we visit the snapper ponds he’s been to.

My cousin has a friend Ketut he sometimes stays with and brought out to Preston Beach last year who was our ride to the hotel so I contacted Ketut and he picks us up in half an hour from Sanur and we’re off and the white people are getting fewer and fewer until I’m deep in Batubulan and kicking up in Ketut’s house with his wife bringing through some delicious food and lemonade overlooking rice fields. We grab Ketut’s 12y old boy and he takes us for a drive through narrow, hair raising streets and I’m still half expecting to be taken to a diamond factory or a pearl factory but we arrive at the ponds and I pay the princely sum of $4 for rods and some dough. The place is a large series of concrete ponds were they grow fish for the markets and seems to only visited by local families and the water is pumped from a nearby running river. The families all sit around and share the catch afterwards with their hands which is cooked in the nearby kitchen.

The rods are long flexible plastic sticks with some mono line hanging off them down to a small float with a running leader and braid running to the hook and you dangle it in and watch the float and strike as they start to run with it. Even though the fish are contained it's actually quite difficult as the small ones suck the dough off the hook and I could only manage a dozen tiddlers but the oldest boy pulled in a nice size ‘snapper’ which went into the live bag and after we were done they fried it up in oil and brought it out with rice, sambal and soy sauce and we washed it down with a bintang for us and some sweet tea and lemonade for the boys. Ketut’s eyes lit up when I snapped off the head and shoulder meat and put it on his rice and watching him get every skerrick was like watching an artist at work. Back to the hotel and Ketut refused to take any money because he says I am a friend and we were his guests but I insist he take 500k and use it toward his ceremony the next day and he seems pretty stoked with that.

If we were ever going to get Bali belly this was going to be the place but we survived and it was an adventure I neither planned or anticipated but something that gave me an insight into Bali life I wouldn't see in the tourist areas and something the boys will remember forever.

Shark bay / monkey mia

hey fishos,

im heading up north end of the month and am spending a week in shark bay whilst eventually getting to coral bay for another week. Taking my 4.6m runabout. Haven’t fished shark bay before Any advice on what side is better to fish and what weather conditions suit each side etc... any info would be great. Also is there many squid up there this time of year? Thanks heaps

Alkimos/Amberton beach? Worth a try?

Has anyone had any luck up this way?. Girlfriend and her lady crew will be out from Sat arvo till Sunday morning (Ocean Reef is the drop off a pickup location) so i figured why not wet a line.

Dont fish NOR much but ill have a good 10+ hours to soak a bait and see whats what.

At the end of Idyllic View Road there is Amberton Beach, and just north of that carpark i can see (on google maps) a little reef outcrop, could hold some surprises.

Just north/south of the Shorehaven grassy area from what i hear is okay for bread and butter species.

Or i could say bugger it and fish near Club Capricon....

Any advice or suggestions?

Cheers.

Good article in today’s Sunday times about sanctuary zones

Today’s Sunday times has an article about that Burke of a politician tony burke re introdcing sanctuary which where thrown out as not creditable by the libs at the last federal election. After a review it was shown that the proposed sanctuary zones had no merit and where only proposed to keep the greens preferences essential for him to keep his seat I believe.

what a waist of space imo

Mooring Set Up

Hi All

Heading over to Mackerel Islands in a couple of months for a week or so. will be suing the moorings they have set there for the week. Just wondering what set up folk use to secure your vessel to the mooring? Have read a couple of stories about boats coming loose and drifting off over there, so keen to here what the best set up is. I'll have a 6.7M Bar Crusher.

thanks all

Anyone got a trailcraft profish?

Gday guys, looking at a profish by trailcraft, particularly over the 5M mark, struggling hard to find any info on them so anything at all or any experience with them would be real appreciated. Mainly going to be used for shallow water fiahing (casting) and some offshore stuff.

Cheers
