Ningaloo Station update
Submitted by Chatty on Sun, 2019-06-16 15:23p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px 'Helvetica Neue'} p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px 'Helvetica Neue'; color: #dca10d} p.p3 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px 'Helvetica Neue'; min-height: 14.0px} span.s1 {text-decoration: underline}
For those that are unaware, The Lefroy family has lost their bid to hold onto Ningaloo Station in the Supreme Court.
https://thewest.com.au/news/regional/lefroy-loses-bid-to-keep-ningaloo-station-running-ng-b881139288z
I spoke with Phil a few days ago about the future of Ningaloo Station. He informed me that the Lefroy’s are appealing the Government’s decision to takeover the station in the court of appeal and believes they have a valid case to maintain ownership of the land.
Ningaloo Station have submitted environmental management plans to the government agency which included the option to completely de-stock the station of non farming animals and convert he station into a conservation park, only to find these plans along with the 30 previously submitted were rejected stating that the development of Ningaloo coast will proceed as part of the Carnarvon Ningaloo Coast Strategy. My experience of the station has been that it is clean, affordable, family friendly and sustainably and responsibly managed.
I can only see this move from the government as a land grab, a decision that will cost taxpayers money to administer and maintain. More than likely camping fees will also increase to the match the other Government run sites near Exmouth with the possibility of entry fees if it is tuned into a park.
I hope the court of appeal will support the option to allow the Lefroy’s to continue to manage the licensed camping areas as they have done since 2000.
The Lefroy family are using their life savings to fight this takeover, if you have enjoyed this beautiful area and you can help out, a go fund me page has been set up to assist them fight this legal battle.

Fitting an Engel
Submitted by The Saint on Fri, 2019-06-14 17:44Hi All,
Keen to fit an Engel to the boat and unsure about battery, wiring, switches etc.
Currently have the 2 batteries with switch to operate battery 1, battery 2 or both.
Am I able to run a third (deep cycle) battery and have it charging when the motor is running, or do I replace one of the starting batteries with a deep cycle ?
I'm ok with basic 12v stuff, i.e. fitting radios, sounders etc, but am going to need some help with this one !
Also recommendations for a good battery to do the job, preferably something able to power the fridge for a couple of days for when we do overnight trips.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Exmouth light house caravan park fish cleaning facilities
Submitted by Paul_86 on Fri, 2019-06-14 17:27G’day, heading up to Exmouth next week and staying at the light house caravan park, just wondering if anyone knows if they have any fish cleaning facilities on site or boat wash down facilities too, if not where is the best place to go? Or should we just bring a portable bench to work on at the caravan park? We will mostly be fishing tantabiti
Been doing a tonne of reading from searches on here so got most of the info we need already, it’s going to be much more of a sport fishing trip then anything else, main targets will be marlin and GT’s, but all other pelagics and by catch welcome!
We will be in a blue dual cab hilux towing a white 480 quintrex coast runner, come say g’day if you see us about ![]()

Good news in the local rag
Submitted by meglodon on Thu, 2019-06-13 12:33It's nice to see some good news in my local newspaper instead of the usual thing about hoons and their exploits.
Here is a bit of a run down Mandurah Mail page 6
Sophia Sinthrupom pleaded guilty in the local court to having 60 under size crabs in her possession at 1015 on December the 31 2018, her excuse was I can't hold a torch and a net and measure crabs, I was going to measure them when I got back to the car. She was ordered to pay $3000 in fines plus $205.30 court costs. Nice one
Christy Taylor fisheries found Christy in passion of 22 under size crabs on January 5 2019 and she was fined $1100 for having under size crabs.
That should go well for the Christmas party fund.
And a bit of news for those that like a bit of venison page 10 has a story about Mandurah topping out the 5 worst locations for road kills included in the list of animals making up the list of animals killed deer, strange now we all know that deer are a declared pest perhaps those of us interested in a variety to their diet may have to engage in some late night driving in the peel area

How Brazen - bloody thieves
Submitted by crasny1 on Thu, 2019-06-13 07:46Hi all
Please be on the lookout for 3 identical Shimano electric reels and rod combo's for sale.
Bloody thieves targeted them off a mates 8m boat Centre console with front cab on the canals in Dudley Park. Lots of Expensive gear on board but only stole the 3 combo's and 2 pricy gaffs. Nothing else touched, and they must have had some insider info as the rods was "hidden" inside the cab. Nothing broken though so insurance not interested.
Cant believe how brazen as there are lots of dogs, and CCTV around various homes, but all footage hazy due to the bad weather we had. Some show a white van but cant ID any specific features.
Will try and get the model of the reels but obviously any electric reel/combo for deep fishing isn't cheap.

Coral Coast - best beach launching locations
Submitted by petew on Tue, 2019-06-11 15:53Hi All,
Im planning a possible trip to the Coral Coast somewhere and will have 2 4wds, one with a caravan, the other with a V19 boat. Both are quite comfortable going offroad.
My question is this - where is some of the better places to launch a boat and potentially leave it anchored? Or would it be better to retreieve it overnight?
Im considering Quobba, Gnaraloo Bay area, Ningaloo etc but Ive not been up there recently (like, 30yrs). Im looking for a reasonably easy location, for beach access mostly.
Is there any other areas I should consider?

Demersal Bag Limit Question
Submitted by Belly Fish on Mon, 2019-06-10 15:50My mates and I are heading up to Shelter Bay boat fishing for a week next Saturday.
We've been quite a few times, and we often get a few fish we know to be Yellowspotted Rockcod (Epinphelus areolatus).....people seem to colloquially call them Honeycomb Cod, but we have caught them as well and they are different. They are included in the Inshore Demersal section of the Fish Identification brochure available on the Fisheries website.
What we have found is that they are very good eating, and we definately keep them. If the past, we have counted them in our demersal bag limit, but I've been through the latest rules and I can't see the Epinphelus species group mentioned anywhere.
Does anyone know for sure what bag limit group these are in. If they aren't a demersal...perfect!!
Cheers

Considering purchasing an exmouth holiday house
Submitted by Riles on Fri, 2019-06-07 03:49G'day guys,
As you probably picked up from the title I'm considering purchasing a holiday house in exmouth that I could move into permanently when I retire. Not for a while yet
. Ideally it would be a house on the marina. I've got a few questions I thought I'd ask first before I dived straight in.
Firstly, I would love to get in contact with anyone who may own a similar holiday house. I'd love to here your experiences with it and some things if any I should watch out for. Happy if you would prefer to shoot me a PM and possibly discuss over the phone.
Secondly, for all of those people that travel up and down the coast staying in holiday homes (I've done my fair share lol), what are some things you look for and and prefer in your holiday houses?
Thanks in advance

Shelter Bay Question
Submitted by Belly Fish on Thu, 2019-06-06 10:49Hi all,
I'm due to go to Shelter Bay this Sunday for a week.
Seebreeze for Shark Bay is not that representative of the conditions out from Steep Point, so I'm taking my readings from Gnaraloo....I'm assuming that reflects better what we might see in the open ocean.
The swell is pretty big...looks like 4 metres or so at least Monday and Tuesday before dropping off Wednesday. Can't see beyond that.
I'm hoping regulars to the area can comment on what swell makes the crossing over the fault line dicey.
Will 4 metres cause the fault line to break right across. Also, if we just stayed inside, does any of the ocean swell cause any issues in Shelter Bay?
Hope someone has some experience with this.
Cheers

GME Ebirb replacement
Submitted by paul d on Tue, 2019-06-04 12:05Not sure if this is common knowledge but if your epirb was bought from 2012 and it's battery has expired you can drop it off at GME in Bibralake and they will send it away for battery replacement and service for no charge and it will be delivered back to your door. Thought i was going to be up for another new Epirb.
