Fuel (and other) thefts this week FYI

Just an FYI crew, we had some late night visitors at the yacht club (RPYC)at some point over the last week, I had ~100-150 litres of fuel siphoned out and the boat next to me did as well, the boat on the other side not so lucky, looks like they have gone in and ransacked it looking for gear.

The yacht club is reviewing CCTV but suspect little will come of it............

S Bend Beach Access

Spening the long weekend up at S bend this coming September, havent been since i was a kid and was wondering if anyone has been recently?

If memory serves me right the four wheel drive tracks to the beach from the Caravan park are super soft but easy going, but the beach is pretty rocky and nasty. Probably going to stick with poppers and slices for tailor. From what i remember regular rigs just got eaten up by the reef and rocks like at Lucy's beach.

I was there when i was 12 and im 27 now, so maybe its different now??

What’s she worth?

Hey guys was thinking about selling my boat but not sure what’s she worth,

It’s a 2006 23.5ft Sailfish walkaround , originally imported from the US, I’m the second owner in Australia, taking

ownership in January 2018 with only 130hrs total on the hull and motor(Yamaha 2stroke v6 200hp), I’ve since

changed it to a 200hp Mercury verado (secondhand approx 400hrs), and a simrad evo3 16in sounder/plotter

combo, and simrad auto pilot, sits on a aluminium dual axle trailer with electric/hydro brakes.

Ive been looking around to get a rough price to go by but havnt seen too many for sale, so thought I’d put it out

there.

cheers

Solo Boat Launch 6M boat

Is a Carribean Reef Runner or similar 6m  glass boat able to be retrieved solo onto a well set up multi roller trailer in a marina with a stong sea breeze and say 1.5 to 2m swell offshore. I am just wondering if this will be a struggle or maybe I should get a 5.6m boat for mainly solo trips. Any  thoughts from those with experience would be appreciated as I dont want to buy a 6m boat only to find out its just to hard to retrieve by myself.

gps and sounder recommendation

Hi everyone. I am thinking of updgading my Garmin GPS which is pre chart type to a chart one with a sounder. I don't fish deep and want something user friendly. I know that there will be lots of differing opinions.  thanks in advance.

GT Fibreglass AMAZING

I'm posting up to let everyone know about the fantastic service I recieved from Greg at GT Fibreglass based up in the Joondalup area.

Last week I discovered cracking around the top of my transom and water damage and rot in the wood core of the transom.

I spoke to a few different fibreglass businesses however from the very first phone conversation I had with Greg I knew he was the man for the job.

Dropped the boat off to Greg last Friday and he quickly cofnirmed the transom needed to be rebuilt, luckily the damage was isolated to the transom, stringers/deck/hull etc all good.

Greg got to work straight away, he sent me daily updates including photos and he repaired my boat with a turn around time of only 1 week.

His pricing was better (bloody good value really) than all the other businesses I delt with and no hidden costs or surprises.

I highly recommend using his services if you require fibreglass repairs, I live south of the river and I am glad I made the journey north of the river to GT Fibreglass to get my boat fixed and back out on the water.

Which deep cycle battery ?

Keen to hear anyone's recommendations for a deep cycle battery to be used as a house battery on board mainly to power the Engel. What do you recommend, or more importantly, what should I avoid ?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Electric reels and sharks

I go to coral bay every year and I am getting sick of getting smashed by sharks. I have spoken to a few blokes that think you have got more chance of beating the sharks using one. Any opinions welcomed.

Carpet replacement?

About to rip up the old carpet on my trailcraft, it's nice to have carpet but makes cleaning a bitch and it hangs onto the salt . Looking for some suggestions for an alternative . Maybe some paint with gritt in it and some sort of Mat on top. Don't want a slippery deck or some loose under foot. Cheers

New Crabbing Rules/ Regulations - Announced Today:

HE State Government has announced a raft of measures to protect the blue swimmer crab for generations to come.

The measures were announced today by Fisheries Minister Dave Kelly and were made after considering public feedback and a proposal from peak fishing bodies.

The new measures include:

– A new seasonal crabbing closure in all waters from the Swan and Canning Rivers to Minninup Beach (about 15km south of Bunbury) will apply to recreational and commercial fishers and charter operators from September 1 to November 30 each year.

– A voluntary buyback for commercial licences from oceanic crab fisheries in the Cockburn and Warnbro Sounds managed crab fisheries and the Mandurah to Bunbury Developmental Crab Fishery, leading to their permanent closure to commercial crab fishing.

– Geographe Bay will remain open to recreational blue swimmer crab fishing all year, however recreational fishers will now only be allowed to take a maximum of five females in their bag limit of 10 crabs.

– A new bag limit of five blue swimmer crabs will apply to recreational fishers in the Swan and Canning Rovers to support a trophy crab fishery on Perth’s doorstep.

ADVICE WANTED..Buying new sounder/GPS for tinny

My mate and I are looking at upgrading to a new sounder/GPS setup for our tinny. Thing is, there's that many different options available now it's not going to be as straight forward a decision as first thought...choosing the missus' birthday pressy is easier!

Would love to hear any recommendations, advice, or general info regarding Sounders/GPS/plotters...ect. Please!

Our boat: Savage 4.2m tinny, 25hp tiller steer.

Basically what we're after is something in the 2-3000$ range that'll work just as well trolling along reefs or bottom bashing at 50m as it will up a creek at low tide in 0.5m.

What’s in your boating first aid kit?

One of those things when you need it you really need it.

One of my kids rolled his ankle down the bottom of a gorge in Karijini a couple of weeks ago and turns out I had ‘borrowed’ the car first aid kit for a remote boating trip a few days earlier and not replaced it.

Took the opportunity to grab 2 Offroad kits from St Johns a couple of days later. One for the boat and one for the car.

What are the extra bits you like to carry on top of the standard kit?

Ive added compression bandage and ventolin inhaler and got a dry bag that the kit fits inside so far. What am I missing?

Eco Beach - Broome

Hi,

I am heading up to Eco Beach in Broome later this week. Any idea how this fishing is off the Beach? What sort of gear and rig should I be using?

Will have the kids with me so happy to target whatever fish are around, no matter how big or small! I've told them they are only eating what they catch; so don't want them to go hungry :-)

Electric brake supply and installation

Hey can anyone please recommend a reasonably priced place who supplies and installs electric brake controllers south of the river.

Many thanks

boat trailer sprinklers

About to buy a new trailer and have seen a few trailers with a sprinkler system rigged up on them to assist in the cleaning
Have been black poly pipe cable tied on with small sprayers to get the trailer.

Just curious if anyone has done this and has a picture of what theirs look like.

Cheers

Smash N Run

Had a sweeeeeeet 3 dayer a few weeks ago. Secret spot, warm water, cold beers, shitloads of fish. Mostly spearing, but a few caught on line. A few pbs. Sharks were bad, even trying to get the boat in the morning we had a 7ft tiger doin the rounds!

Pics tell the story

Busselton jetty

Solid session at the Busselton jetty last night. One pinky about 55 or 60 cm and a Mullaway that went to about 1.1 m. You can get a good idea of the size of the Mullaway if you happen to know how high the handrail is.

Another new marina upgrade

Can't seem to post link , but search DOT , two rocks marina plan. You can fill out  quick survey , 8 lanes baby!

As per title.

Looking to beg, borrow or hire a pneumatic pop riveter capable of pulling up 1/4 inch aluminium pop rivets with a 4mm spindle.

Only needed for a handfull of rivets.

Would consider buying if the price is right.

If anyone can help or put me onto someone who can it would be greatly apreciated.

Grady white seafarer 228 vs caribbean 2300/2400 vs cruise craft 685 opinions

Hi guys,

I understand this topic has been touched somewhat awhile back but I was hoping to get some advice/ opinions regarding the above boats from people in WA fishing WA waters.

Ive narrowed down my search to these 3 boats based on research but would love to hear from someone who either owns or gets out on one of of these boats.

Of interest to me is:

Ride quality in WA chop

Stability at rest (drifting 3 blokes on one side)

fishing area

storage

and lastly cabin space large enough for 2 heading over to rotto of a night or two

Im leaning slightly toward a Grady white sole because they have a walk around which means I can fish soemone up front but I would love to hear any opininons good or bad on anything on at all about theses particular  boats.

Thanks in advance.

Josh
