At what point does stopping on someones spot get ridiculous

Last weekend we were drifting over a patch of coral 79 Nautical miles from the Dampier Boat ramp, and approx 13 west of the tip of the monties.
This bloke with 3 deckies drove from over the horizon (monties side) and stopped within 100m of the spot we had been sitting on for 2Hrs.
At what point does courtesy not kick in. I realise I don't own any land out that way, but there are some right fuck wits in this world.

Jigs- top rigging vs bottom and using plastic squid on the assists

What are people's thoughts on rigging assists on the top of a jig vs the bottom?

I know it's probably a case of different jigs/ styles etc but was just curious as to what people's preferences are?

im more interested in slower demeral jigs (fankys/ shouts etc) than knifes. Advantages and drawbacks etc- does running them either way greatly affect thier actions etc.

also, what about using the placcy Squids on the assists? I'm a semi keen jigger as usually run them as a default, but would be interested to know from people who are mad keen on it if they think using them majorly impacts on the jigs natural action?

Lots of of questions I know, just keen to get people's opinions

Cheers!

If you want to sell me fishing tackle, please do some homework first.

I recieved this at work today.    Special hooks.....and a Firestater...wonder what that is, and a Buoy...stranger and stranger.

First Denham Trip

I've got a couple of snapper tags for Freycinet Estuary and as this will be a first off for me taking the boat to Shark Bay I would greatly appreciate any indicators on best timing and "general locations" for fishing other than the snapper. What are the best months weather wise? Thanks in advance.

Freezing tuna

Hey guys,

Heading up north in a few days and hoping to get into some tuna.

Can anyone let me know how well they freeze when cryovaced? Do they keep their texture or go all mushy when defrosted.

Cheers

busted big time

hi!! i need some help here and hope someone could give some insights..

it was my first time going crabbing with a few others. we went down to mandurah.. catching happily.. 6 of us catched approx 100 crabs. we didnt cared much.. thought that whatever we chatched, just put it on the bin first... as it was my first time i didnt know of any rules and license etc... we were still catching and chit chating.. didnt plan on leaving yet... so after some time.. the rangers came around to do some checks on our catchings.. and found that we had small and undersized crabs. i was shocked and the few others.. perhaps all of us were scared and nervous.. thinking that oh shit.. whats gonna happen to us.

so the rangers told us we have alot of under sized crabs... and we could be fined up to 10000 etc... and took all our crabs away..

happy and excited night turned out bad. really bad.

few weeks after, all of us received this fisheries infringement notice.. each of us receive 3 infringments. they are:

-s.46(b) FRMA - poss>b/limit tot/protect/fish cat 1 sp        - $1000

-r.64L(1) FRMR - non-permitted means for taking crabs     - $75

-s.50(3) FRMA - took > twice bag limit cat 1 fish                - WARNING

we were at Len Howard Reserve, Mandurah.

can anyone please share your experience and please give some insights and advice on this. can we make an appeal or something or is there any way to reduce the fines??

can someone pls explain each of the infringements?

please help!

Need help with hydrastar brakes!

 Hey guys

I have hydrastar brakes on my boat trailer. I need help with the constant 12 volt supply to the hydrastar unit.

I have a 2010 ford ranger xlt with a tekonasha voyager brake controller. Currently the hydrastar wiring to the plug on the trailer is earth to pin 3 and 12 volt to pin 2. How ever on the car side pin 2 is still the standard wiring. Do I need to run a new cAble from the battery to pin 2? If so do I need a circuit breaker or fuse on this line. Below is a picture of the wiring of the boat trailer plug.

Fuel drums

Just seeing if anyone knows where I can get 3 or 4 fuel drums from???

Anyone been fishing in US? Florida? Canada?

Currently in the states and looking at doing some fishing while over here, heard that tarpon fishing in Florida is good so most likely give it a crack. Anyone been? Recommend a charter?

Also will be travelling around the west coast and up to Vancouver, any fishing charters up that way?

Stark raving mad

I'am not sure if this bit of video has been posted up before, however as it is now the season for salmon and a lot of people will be chasing them from rocks, I think it is appropriate to post this up as a good reminder of what you should not do (repeat) no fish is worth this type of risk taking.
In fact I think these guys have lost the plot big time, seriously.

I hope and wish all those who chase salmon from the rocks great success and a safe time.

Pelsaert Charters

My son and I are keen to do a charter to the Abrolhos Islands, but not for 5 days.  Pelsaert Charters do a 2 day overnighter, which sounds OK.  I've never heard of them and wonder if any members of the forum have been out with them.  I notice that todays episode of Ifish was at the islands and they used this company.  Any comments would be appreciated.

Cheers.

pulled my arms off!

First Amberjack - "wow" - by-far hardest fight I've ever had;

Caught lots of sambos and YTKs and none had anything on this (albeit I've never caught either over 20kg - so a bigger YTK might be a diff story....I know other people like to debate the best fighter out there, but I can only comment on personal experience and this is it for me (so far)).

Came in just a touch under 34kg.
Pulled up from about 100 metres, south passage tantabiddi.

(Initially thought I'd hooked up on the bottom as we were on a fast drift on some snaggy ground, but then started ripping off line in the opposite direction to our drift).

I know not a prised eater, but kept it for the BBQ as it was buggered by the time we got to the boat.....tasted a like Mackie to me.

75lb fish on 50lb gear - pretty happy with it :)

sorry about the crappy pics - couldn't transfer from phone too well

Gps/sounder combos

 Hi Guys,

Just got my hands on a 17ft fibreglass boat with an old fishfinder on it and we are looking at GPS Sounder combos in the lower price ranges.  The boat will be mostly used for fishing and mainly between 6-50ish metres though we would love to take a crack at the fads and out the back of Rotto.  Any info on brands to look at and to stay away from would be greatly appreciated as the amount of stuff out there is daunting.  I have seen a couple Simrads in use but otherwise haven't had much to do with them.

Thanks in Advance,

Daniel

Waypoint manager

I have been using expert gps on the computer to manage my waypoints and it is a piece of crap.It gets things about 80% right when you upload a file to the GPS and the I have to manually correct the other 20%.

It is not a problem with my GPS as I run two of them and have problems with both.

I was wondering what other wreckers are using and what is good without spending a million dollars.

Freshwater Fishing Licence Joke

If I want to take my family camping to do some freshwater fishing one weekend I need to take out a freshwater fishing licence for anyone who is going to have a rod in the water at any stage. I may do this once a year and fisheries expect me to pay for $140 worth of licences for something I may only use for a morning or afternoon fish. Bugger it, I'll just head down to Busselton/Dunsborough again and chase salt water fish. I've had a look at the other states and this is what you have to pay:

Western Australia
Marron fishing $40
Recreational fishing from boat $30
South-west freshwater angling $40
Concession at 50% for under 16

Queensland
•$8.00 per week
•$40.00 per year
•$35.00 per year if you are entitled to a discount*
You only need 1 SIP permit per couple (married or de facto), and those under 18 do not need a permit.

New South Wales
$7 - 3 days
$14 - 1 month
$35 - 1 year
$85 - 3 years
People under the age of 18 are exempt from paying the recreational fishing fee.

Victoria
Victorian anglers now have the option to buy a three-year Recreational Fishing Licence for $66. This presents a saving of $7.50 on the combined cost of purchasing three annual licences. Anglers can still buy the one-year RFL for $24.50, the 28-day RFL for $12, and the 2-day RFL for $6.
You will not need a licence to fish if you are:
•under 18 years of age;
•70 years of age or over;.

South Australia
No licence required

Tasmania
Very complicated but 48 hour licence is $22: https://www.ifs.tas.gov.au/ols/pricing

Northern Territory
No licence required

Australian Capital Territory
No licence required

I know we are in a backward state sometimes but surely it wouldn't be that hard to apply a sensible fee structure to encourage families to spend time together and not to mention the tourism boost to our less popular rural areas. I'm gonna take this one up with my local member as well as the Fisheries Minister and MLA of areas that could do with a tourism boost and see how far I can take it.

salmon? Snapper?

Went out for a pinky session today and caught 5 or 6 or so all in the sml to medium range (45 to 70cms) behind gi. Headed in for a bit of fun on salmon and plucked this beauty out of the school on a placcy. Went 88cms

Hi folks, can anyone tell me the names of the camps at Sheltered Bay Steep Point & their locations.
Have a mate who will be there the same time as us next week & we are interested to know where we will be staying in comparison to each other.
cheers & stay safe.
