Sounder shot hdi7 silt out??? D9
Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 2015-05-11 13:34Went out a couple weeks ago to the D9 (first time) and come across this on my sounder... Went over it a couple of times and showed up every time! I was thinking sediment from the bottom? Dropped a line to check but caught nothing, moved 200m away & cleaned up with skippy... I'm still learning how to read a colour sounder so any input would be great. It's lowance hdi7 on manual mode... Colour line set to 68% & gain set to 75% give or take a couple of points... Any ideas?

Fisheries NT vers WA
Submitted by Walfootrot on Mon, 2015-05-11 12:26Ok, both can not be right.
WA has size limits and the NT dont apart from Barra and crabs.
most people believe that you can pull up a reef fish from 20m and release it with out harm.
Have a read and keep an open mind!

Daiwa Space Age Reel Greaser
Submitted by lachieH on Sun, 2015-05-10 14:28hi everyone, I just got some daiwa reel greaser to hopefully increase the performance of my reels after been accidentally dropped in salt water a couple times, but my feels are shimano. Is that alright?
i did try it on my little Sedona 1000FD and put it on the main shaft but it doesn't seem as smooth as it is meant to be, actually it locks up a little bit. Will this eventually stop?

Furuno 587 with Airmar 1kw
Submitted by Rob_Seed on Sun, 2015-05-10 09:54A queston for all you sounder guru's out there.
I recently installed a transommount 1kw Airmar with a 587 furuno amd am having heaps of surface clutter...
close to a fourth of the screen is red at the top.
bottom lock and the picture is fine.
Surface clutter doesnt improve with gaon settings at all.
Have I installed the transducer incorrectly?
Or is this just a setting I dont know about?
Thanks
Rob

hypathical?? undersize
Submitted by uncle on Sat, 2015-05-09 10:07if you were to catch a fish that is just oversize, if you take a photo on a brag mat with date and time, then later on fisheries says its undersize, you then show them the photo, would they listen to reason, need to dock it for identity, interesting to know the law or peoples opinions

Friday; 80cm Snapps, Sounder shot in 90m and a pik of the view 40k's out..
Submitted by Messiah on Fri, 2015-05-08 22:01Headed out from O.R at gentlemans hrs. No spots but had an idea (somewhat misguided plan, based on previous outings) of ground to cover. Thought the 90's would be a good place to start.
Found this x several on the 587 with a 1kw 'ducer on 50htz with some custom settings:

While looking at this:

And landed a couple of these - including one on the first drop within seconds:

Plus Nanny's and blackarse to 31cm.
Almanac said stay home and drink beer..... I still drank beer, but the view was so much better out there, from a 5.8m Ally....!!

Wednesday and Friday fishing - ex woodies- now with pics
Submitted by Swompa on Fri, 2015-05-08 19:32Due to redundancy, I have been lucky enough to fish the sound on Wednesday and Friday. Wednesday session was launching at 10:00 and doing a full loop to the south, starting down the eastern shore looking for Salmon. After a cople of hours, I spotted some birds working and paid the price for not being ready with two othe boats appearing and the fish going deep. Throughout the next few hours the birds and fish came and wen with me landing 4 healthy salmon around the moored ships in the middle of the sound.
the ultimate goal of the day was to catch one on a Ben 10, 3ft rod, with a 2kg reel. I cheated by packing it with 15lb line. After hooking and losing two the week before, I was adamant that I was going to land one this time. After getting one to the boat, I reached down to grab its tail and in the process it spat the hooks and swam off....
After catching a couple more with my good gear, the school was going off enough to have another crack with the little gear so I cast in and within a moment it was on. The fish was was off like Floyd Mayweathe though after 50 minutes the fish was landed, photos taken, and released. 4 fish caught and released.
Fridays ventures started at 9:00 with a trip towards the accomodation at Garden Island with my folks for some squid. After an hour so, we had four onboard and made the most of the glassy conditions and headed through the coat hanger. I had never circumnavigated Garden Island and with minimal swell and stuff all breeze, it was the ideal day.
Half way along the back of the island, we stopped in one of the bay's for a feed and a herring fish. The herring were extremely hard to find though once we did find them, we got a feed fairly quickly, and even spotted a small school of Salmon swim through though couldn't find them after we pulled the anchor.
After a feed, we proceeded around the north of the island back into the sound and headed back to the anchored ships hoping that the birds had some secrets to share but not to be.

Submitted by Versus on Fri, 2015-05-08 11:45As title suggests, driving from Broome to Perth in about 4 weeks, mostly camping.* Will be stopping at Karratha for a night or two, then Northhampton and straight home from there. *
Would just like to hear anyuggestions of spots between these destinations to camp and/or wet a line or spear.
Probably not any major detours from the main tho, i.e. wont be driving into Exmouth. Cheers
