Bummer,no boat. Where to fish locally.
Submitted by Maximus on Thu, 2015-05-28 09:10Hi guys,
Scored a weekend free pass to go fishing but finding it rather difficult to fish the river and local beaches and avoid crabs, it seeems the little buggers are everywhere. My little girls are mad keen to throw a line in but we are disappointed averytime, all we seem to do is feed the crabs. I suppose its that time of the but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Submitted by sarcasm0 on Thu, 2015-05-28 07:42Just after some info on how it has been fishing lately? Ive gone through the search function and read about bream, whiting, kgs and crabs but most of the posts seemed to be around christmas times so just wondering if it is worth taking the pots or if anyone has any fresh reports?

Hamelin Bay offshore
Submitted by bretto on Tue, 2015-05-26 22:56Hi.
Might be a long shot but hoping someone might be able to help with looking for dhufish around the area.
Was hoping to fish some drop offs around 40-60m but I've also heard there is good coral further out around 90m 40-50 fathom.
Am I wasting time fishing in close or is it worth taking the time to find lumps?
thanks for any help.
I do take my boat down there reasonably often and have used the ramp so I'm used to the excitement that ramp brings. Haha Just haven't done very well fishing offshore.

Hamelin bay fishing
Submitted by Ethan A on Tue, 2015-05-26 17:41Hi guys
I have planned my second trip to Hamelin bay in July l know its not the ideal time of year to go fishing in Hamelin bay but that is when it is the quietest last time l was there l managed to get some Herring, Whiting and Skippy off the beach but this time l am going to try and catch something bigger like tailor and maybe a mulloway and still be able to catch small species how far up the beach do l have to go as l don't really know the beach that well. Any tips or rigs l will have to use and will there still be some any salmon around.
Cheers

A great morning on light gear
Submitted by Poppy on Tue, 2015-05-26 17:02Went out from Hillarys in my little dinghy on Saturday, to a spot about 3 miles off MAAC. Put down the berley bucket and while I was putting a soft plastic on my jig, my deckie (can you have a deckie in a dinghy?) dropped over and immediately hooked a nice skippy of around 1 kilo. We caught a few more skippy until the sambos came to play. We hooked and released several of around 70-80cm. Good fun all the same. I then thought I should have a go with my 3 kilo whiting settup, using a 7 ft Strudwick rod. I immediately hooked up with either a large skippy or a small sambo and the Strudwick absolutely sh%t itself. Broke clean in half. Took out my spare whiting rod and hooked into something big. I caught my first ever metro dhu fish, and it was a keeper. I was one happy camper.

Reef anchors
Submitted by joycey on Tue, 2015-05-26 09:37Hi all,
After loosing my sand anchor on reef I decided I need a reef anchor.
I have a 5.3m glass boat.
After opinions on the folding reef anchors, are they any good? They look lot better for storage than the standard reef anchors.
Thanks for opinions.

Two Rocks boat ramp closure
Submitted by AlwaysFishin on Tue, 2015-05-26 07:01Turned up at 6am to find the car park closed. Nice to know. Asked a few of the blokes working there how long it would be out for and why wasn't anyone told about it. The reply I got was anywhere between one day or three days and it's not my job to tell people that it's going to be closed. Wankers.

HDS7 gen 2 touch running AIRMAR TM260
Submitted by Coombsy on Mon, 2015-05-25 20:47Ok, I'm running Hds7 touch with Tm260.
im not getting clear images, around 40m I can get ground on both 50 and 200 but screen seems to have heaps of interferance, Iv tried turning all other electrics off but didn't help. 70m-250m 200 drops out completely, 50 reads but only picking ground under 3knt. Fished 150-240 yesterday but only able to pick up bottom when I was drifting. Not getting defined fish arches in any depth just vertical lines. I have m260 (5k) chosen in the settings and tried playing with other settings but not having much luck. Transducer mounted in the centre between outboards pretty much spot on to what airmar recommends. Seen some really nice clear images of what blokes are getting on there hds units on here and mine is not even comparable. Please help.

Redhead squid jigs - your thoughts?
Submitted by rigpig on Mon, 2015-05-25 13:02 A while back a saw on a fishing show Lee Raynor usinga redhead squid jig. He said they are all the go in the Eastern States but in WA we favour the pink, red, white etc. None of my mates have used a redhead squid jig and I'm wondering if anyone is and what their thoughts are on them.

Almanac Today
Submitted by lachieH on Sun, 2015-05-24 10:58hi everyone, today I'm heading out and doing my first lure video with the GoPro, and will hopefully have it edited and up tomorrow. But there is one thing I have forgotten this year, the almanac. So could somebody please tell me what today is rated? It would be great to know because it's a perfect day today and it would be better if I knew there would be fish around!

Any luck today?
Submitted by Swompa on Sat, 2015-05-23 17:49Headed out with woodies point at 0600 thismorning to 13m on the back of Garden island. Found a likely lump on my sounder though after playing around this lump and others for three hours, nothing.
Four types of plastics, lead head jig, whole squid and Mulies and prawns. Had 6 lines in for most of the day (3 ppl) without a single nibble.
Moved out to 5fb and managed a couple of small reef critters before heading into Mewstone for some mid morning brekkie. Threw in the lines again and instantly got a 10cm flathead which went back.
Not in a mood to accept not catching anything, we joined the 10 or so boats following a salmon school around and proceeded to land and release 5 very energetic fish.
did anyone have any luck today. Speaking with some other guys at Woodmans point they similarly caught nothing over six hours. Thankfully the conditions, company and boat were all good.

Cheers to z00m
Submitted by sarcasm0 on Sat, 2015-05-23 08:54We went out from Hillaries yesterday arvo around 2:30 for a fish along the inshore reefs to the south. Tryed 3-4 spots all of which produced an amazing variety of fish. We caught between us Skippy, Wrasse, western blue devil fish, discus fish, good sized silver bream, herring on a snelled whole squid(wtf?!), a monster wobby, some other unknown species of shark, undersized pinks and dhuies and a nice fox fish.
Headed back in the evening with a couple of trevally, the fox fish and the silver bream in the esky. Cracker of a day in my books! No photos as we were to busy catching and the ones we got of the wobby werent very good.
Also saw Murray D back at the ramp and he had a box of my soft plastics jigheads I had left on his boat more than 18 months ago and kept them on the boat and gave them back to me! Score!
Thanks for a top day out!

fishing comps
Submitted by mark64 on Fri, 2015-05-22 20:38we'd caught a few good fish and as per normal I leave them in the esky to fillet in the morning when the tables arnt busy, filleting away the next morning an old guy rocks up and puts a 30kg + GT on the table,i was gobsmacked he then told me that it was caught in the comp and the person that caught it was throwing it in the bin so he said he would take it for pet food and bait so good on him for that.GT popping is some of the best fishing you can do and a hard fighting fish like that deserves better, denham is home for me and that's pisspoor conduct.

Have I been sold a pup
Submitted by meglodon on Fri, 2015-05-22 20:16Tackle World are having a huge Shimano sale at the moment. One of the items they have on sale at a very very low price is Shimano Waxwing lures (all sizes).
Now, looking up the price of some of these lures shows that the same lures are retailing around $25-$28 bucks.
Tackle World is selling these lures at 3 for $10-00.
I rushed down and brought $3 worth. I've had a close look at the packaging, the lures themselves and an original waxwing and I'm damned if I can see any difference. The proof of the pie will come tomorrow when I'll take them down to the estuary and have a play with them.
I have been of the belief that if something appears to good to be true then it probable is just that, to good to be true.
If these lures perform ok tomorrow then I'll be back to get a few dollars more of them.
Now, the big question, has anyone on here experienced anything like this, massive massive reductions on very good products, are they original or faked (and bloody good if they are faked)
Your views are sought.
I must make this very clear. I am not in any way connected to Tackle World what so ever (repeat). They just happen to be the company that has some lures I believe are at a truly good price, but are the lures originals.
