Gimbal recommendations?
Submitted by BoozeFishSnooze on Fri, 2014-11-07 02:11Hey guys I'm just chasing opinions on various gimbals because I'm planning on chasing landbased sharks this summer and I'd rather not just have the rod digging straight into me hah. I have no idea on what to look for, the butt of the rod I'm using has crossing lines out of it if that helps to narrow down what I should be looking out for.
Cheers in advance
Shaun.

Herring feed
Submitted by lachieH on Thu, 2014-11-06 22:31hi everyone, I figured that probably the easiest fish to catch for a dinner is herring, because they school up in good numbers, they taste good, and easy to fillet. Anyway the main thing that I wanted to know is where, in metro waters, are the herring currently firing? I'm going to try and get out for a herring fish in a couple weeks time. I can probably travel to the dawesville cut but that would be the furthest that I can go. I do know that the cut is awesome for herring

Mornings or evenings?!?
Submitted by FishingKing14 on Thu, 2014-11-06 19:07Hey guys just got a quick question for you all to answer. I have been fishing the north mole lately in the evening catching herring and the odd tailor however I was woundering if it's worth waking up early in the morning and having a crack. Will there be bigger schools of smaller fish such as herring or garfish or will it just be the same as fishing in the evening?
cheers
Travelling lure Gallery
Submitted by crasny1 on Thu, 2014-11-06 14:04I followed the advise and tried to blood the travelling lure.
Cast it a few times in the cut going for tailor but no joy. Then decided to head up for a holiday to Shark Bay/Monkey Mia.
Again despite some cracking looking tailor water failed with the twisty. But somehow had to blood it.
Went out on Unreal Charter and can highly recommend the brothers as not only did we get some good fish but great laughs aswell.
In desperation jigged with the Twisty, and despite not being anything to brag about normally got the lures virginity broken.
So now its Beau go and Im sure he would have more success than this "getting to old for climbing down rocks" man. Good luck.
Conditions look flash dont they!!?
We caught between 5 fisherman the limit which I was a little upset about as we had no storage facility for our share, but the skipper doesnt like C&R as he believes that the fish are knackered and injured, and will only be taken by a shark etc. Pretty interesting view. 2 of the fishers onboard was a new couple with a family that makes the Brady bunch look small. 6 kids to one and 3 to the other, so 11 mouths to feed we gave ours to the family. Most wont believe this but out off 3 Rankin, 1 Pink, 2 Black (Bluelined) Snapper/emperor and heaps of Redthroat the misses and I kept 2 large Flags, which most rate as shitfish, and we dont. Have a few photos of the catch but dont believe in posting "kill" shots.
Have just copied this as the discussion can go on the Travelling lure what happened to it post, but this should be the story and photo!!!

Cray pot construction
Submitted by Paul_86 on Thu, 2014-11-06 13:34G'day all.
Just wondering why on timber cray pots all the battern's are held on with clouts and not screws. Is it just a cost saving thing or is there another reason behind it?
Reason I ask is that I've got a couple of full jarrah pots that I'm getting ready to use, but they are a bit loose and rickety all over so I want to reinforce them but before I do I wanna make sure I'm doing it rite and not wasting my time.
Cheers Paul

Leaky Boat
Submitted by Ol Tom on Wed, 2014-11-05 15:03James 1989
I couldn't work out how to attach this photo on a pm. So here it is on the forum. This is on the hull of a trailcraft with inbuilt tank. Looking for repair suggestions because a mate just found it on his boat and now the seasons here he doesn't want to rip the floor up if he doesn't have to. Thanks

A couple of new builds- flats whiting/soft plastic bream sticks
Submitted by barneyboy on Wed, 2014-11-05 12:53These are a couple of rods I have just finished building. Both on MHX blanks and both 2 piece.
One is 7 ft 3 in and the other is 7 ft.
Both with the Fuji VSS soft touch reel seats and grey handle kits.
These were built with the new KR guide system.
These guides made me realise how big and cumbersome rods and their guides used to be.
1 of the wraps is a streamlined thunderbird and the other is a fish wrap.
They turned out a treat and Iam stoked with the finish.

Swan River
Submitted by lachieH on Mon, 2014-11-03 16:12my mum says that I go fishing a lot now, and that she wants me to start getting a feed of fish most times that I go. I have restrictions, firstly that I have to get myself down to the river to fish in the first place, which is easy I can even take the kayak there on my own. And secondly I have to catch enough to feed 3-5 people.
my friend offered to take me through the river on his dinghy down at the mount pleasant part of the river down to the end of kent street wier. I am thinking that I will take the crab nets with extended rope that I will probably buy on Saturday, so that I have at least 30 meters of rope and I will probably drop the nets down near the Mount Henry bridge. We will probably lay about 10 nets down? Have no idea on where to drop the nets so could somebody please let me know but I'm thinking about the middle of the river or a little bit closer to the gun bream and flathead side of the river?
my second target species that I might target is tailor. So I think I might take a 6-15KG Rod and a paternoster rig with mulies on the end (might even get a ray), and flick some 10 gram twisties from about 50m out towards the bank with a bream Rod and hopefully get a few legal chopper tailor.
if the tailor aren't producing, we may flick some plastics for bream or flathead towards the bank.
so if anybody has any suggestions on what I should target, and please tell me about the crabs because I need to know please let me know!

Pissed on by a Dolphin
Submitted by crasny1 on Mon, 2014-11-03 12:57Just from my old shots. This is an X-US Navy dolphin in Tahiti that decided to show her displeasure at being handled by pissing on us. It stank like you wouldnt believe and the look on the bosses face clearly show that.
