Jig weights for shallow water sambo's
Submitted by big john on Mon, 2014-11-17 20:26Just after some info from the guys in the know.
What sort of jig weights are you using for shallow water sambos (35-50m)? Obviously fishing in good conditions without a howling breeze.

Bream/flathead lures for summer
Submitted by lachieH on Mon, 2014-11-17 19:52well my school finishes early (Which I think is awesome) in 2 weeks, and I will have a lot of spare time (I really mean a lot). So I'm thinking of going for some bream and flathead on lures, perfecting my technique. I have decided that the next lure I'm getting is definately the cranky crab. I find you can't beat the natural crabs under rocks for bait, getting a way bigger average size bream, I think it's only a matter of time before I start getting close to that 40cm bream using this bait. Anyway I am not sure what colour crab I should get but I'm only getting one because I want to get a few lures.
i have already got an army of soft plastics so I don't need to stock up on them I don't think.
i have 2 atomic hardz breamshads which are 40mm that are clear with a re eye, should they work? I might get an SX-40.
any other lures to add to my collection?

Worst fish ever tasted
Submitted by crasny1 on Mon, 2014-11-17 15:17Im sure this might have been covered in the past.
I dont like oily fish other than in a tin, and once was offered what turned out to be a Gem fish. And I almost spewed. Never again for me, even though some would rate them.

Water Temperature Websites
Submitted by Kristof on Mon, 2014-11-17 13:23Hi,
Anybody have any good websites for water temperatures in WA?
I've looked at a few websites but haven't found anything worth subscribing to. People always talk about water temperatures in Rotto, but I can't find anything that's down to that level of detail, let alone a website that shows warm currents.
Help please??
Cheers
Kristoff

abu veritas
Submitted by lyle rogers on Sun, 2014-11-16 20:49this might sound like a dumb question but can you use a baitcaster rod like the abu veritas 6'6 vrc66-6 12 - 20lb for bottom bouncing/jigging.
i was thinking of just putting it in the rod holder with either a plastic or metal jig. whats the main difference apart from the longer butt and obviously higher line class from this model and the light jig model which i think was pe3 . just after a bit of a cheapy rod that i can just put over the side, stick in rod holder and forget about it. seen the casting model for $50 on a website plus postage and i think the light jig was around $160.

Anybody been bitten by a cray before?
Submitted by dumper on Sun, 2014-11-16 20:25Don't ask me how I managed it, but last weekend while wrestling a jumbo out of a cave, he's managed to latch onto my hand and sink his "teeth" in. Bastard wouldn't let go so I've shot to the surface and he's relaxed his grip enough to let me pull my hand from my glove. The boys on the boat thought it was piss funny and I was left with two puncture marks a bit like a snake bite and a bit of blood. Problem is now, a week on, those 2 punctures have turned into one festy pitted sore the size of a ten cent piece with no sign of healing up. ( been covering it with betadine all week). I was wondering if they have some type of bacteria in them that's going to turn me into a leper

Fisheries at Two Rocks Today
Submitted by pgreen1 on Sun, 2014-11-16 20:01Well its good to see fisheries are cracking down on pot theft ( Well at least trying), They were at two rock today checking everyone. Whilst we were there they a couple of boats were in a bit of trouble to say the least with gear on board that wasn't theirs and guys without licences. I would have to say this season has been trouble free so far for us with no pots "Missing" or being pulled. Makes for a pleasant change.

Port Gregory, early December
Submitted by pale ale on Sun, 2014-11-16 16:46Hey Guys,
I am fortunate to be heading down from Karratha to Port Gregory in a couple weeks.
I have used the search function, and read a lot about the place, it sounds great.
My main query is: What species will be on the chew in December? I have never fished this region, and have a limit to how much gear I can take....
Still need to tick whiting on popper off my bucket list... any chance? Mulloway this time of year? Tailor?
Mate will be there with his tinny, if the weather is ok :) Is this region part of the demersal ban?
thanks

Customising a dinghy
Submitted by Ashen on Sun, 2014-11-16 06:47Hi all
Have sold my Voyager LTD for a deposit to buy a house. Couldn't be without a boat so I've bought a 12ft dinghy with a 15hp outboard.
Would like ideas for customising the dinghy to make it "fishing friendly".
Advice and especially pictures would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

suitable weather
Submitted by Sam57 on Sat, 2014-11-15 09:43HI guys as I am relativly new to boating could I get general opinions on suitable weather (wave heigt wind speed) I have a 4.6 center console generally fish in sound & just past the islands. Is it better to have low wind ie under 10 knots with larger waves or can higher winds with low waves. Reason I ask is I can usually only fish Sunday mornings
5 am -12 and have to travel from hills so I rely on weather reports to take the punt. Any info greatly appreciated.

Lake Kununurra and Wellington Dam Fish Stocking
Submitted by Poltergeist on Sat, 2014-11-15 08:09The WA Fish Foundation have been responsible for many fish stocking projects, the Barramundi in Lake Kununurra being one of them. I know a lot of fingerlings went into this water three years ago but havent heard any reports of how they are doing. Has anybody fished there to know if its been successful??
The next project for WAFF is the stocking of Wellington Dam which if suitable species are stocked could create a fantastic fishery within easy reach of the majority of anglers in the state, Lake Kununurra is a bit to far away for a weekend fishing trip. Now is the chance to voice your opinions on what you would like to see happen with this water. You can find the online survey here: http://waff.com.au/projects/wellington-dam-community-consultation-questionnaire.html
Lets hope some common sense will prevail and we can at last get some Australian species suitable to our climate stocked into one of our water ways.

Whiting Lure Setups
Submitted by jayce on Fri, 2014-11-14 10:48Gday All
With more people getting into this now i was just wondering what setups everyone are using? Rod/Reel/Line.
Im looking to buy a new combo for it so would help with narrowing down the options.
I was using a mates Nitro Vapor 1-3kg with a 2004 luvias the other day and that was nice to use.
I also have a Diawa Aird 1-3kg with a 3000Ci4 stradic wich didnt work the small lures so well. Im guessing thats because of the reel and 15lb line i had on it.
Cheers Jayce

Woodmans point jetty
Submitted by lachieH on Wed, 2014-11-12 20:56hi everyone, I'm probably heading down to woodies point jetty soon and will put have a mullet fillet out on a 6/0 occo hook for maybe a ray or a gummy at the most, I'm not looking for 3m Sharks if ur wondering. But the main reason I'm posting is how has the jetty been going for herring and whiting and the rest of the bread and butter species? I'm going to look for a feed and will be there most of the day so hopefully I come home with dinner which is what mum dreams of me doing
. She says fish is way too expensive from the shops so if I catch fresh fish that tastes better, she might give me $10 which I think is a bargain lol. But I'm willing to do it for free because that's what family do.
so any reports on whiting and herring would be awesome
