Submitted by Daniel_P on Wed, 2014-10-29 00:28Hey guys, sorry if I've put this on the wrong thread but I'm after a 60hp-75hp outboard with low hours and a late model would be good. Looking at spending around 3k for the right one! Two stroke or four stroke not fussed :)

Sustain 5000FG Carbontex
Submitted by GGs on Mon, 2014-10-27 20:24Hey guys,
Has anyone here upgraded the drag on a Sustain 5000FG to carbontex? Im considering it for an upcoming exy trip as this reel will be on a tuna stickbait setup. From what i have found on the site the carbontex upgrade is worthwhile for all reels except Stellas?
Cheers

Rotto Help
Submitted by GusG on Mon, 2014-10-27 17:39Hi everyone, I havent been on here much - I've had bugger all time for fishing and havent been over to WA for ages. That is now about to change! I am heading over this weekend and will get to visit Rott for the first time. This is where I need your help....
Firstly can anyone point me in the right direction to some good land based spots at Rotto. I am not after monster fish (but they are always welcome). Just want to get out, have some fun and maybe get a feed too. What sort of species should I be targetting now?
Secondly, what sort of gear will I need over there?
And lastly, if anyone is at Rotto this coming weekend with a boat and is keen to have a deckie, drop me a line.
Thanks all
Gus

Hooks
Submitted by lachieH on Mon, 2014-10-27 17:30 hi everyone. On Sunday morning I'm gonna head out to the club cap rocks to get a couple tailor but I have got a problem. Last time that I got hooks, they were 4/0 tarpon hooks. But this time I went into dinga to order 100 open eye ganged hooks but I accidentally clicked on 5/0 hooks
.
i will have to make do with what I have and thought, should I make a 4 hook gang, and put a whole mulie on, or should I make a 2 hook gang and put half a mulie on? Or should do a 3 hook gang and put a mulie on, even though the mulie will probably be a bit big, and cut the tail off?

P66 Transducer Performance
Submitted by trueblue_10 on Sun, 2014-10-26 19:07Interested in any actual experiences with the P66 transducer fitted off the Furuno sounder especially for use deeper water i.e. 100 to 150 metres of water. Is the P66 still effective at picking up fish at these depths?
Likewise what's the TM260 like in shallower water 10 to 50metres does it lose (or gain) much over the P66 transducer. I am buying a Furuno FCV587 and heard you set in Dual frequency mode to be effective in shallower water??
Still weighing up the pros and cons of the transducer type (Real world performance- not manufacturer). It will have to be transom mount (on my 6M Ali Quintrex).

No fish at Denham!!
Submitted by Piggy on Sun, 2014-10-26 08:21Hi fishos,
Just got back from a 3 day trip across to DHI from Denham in the boat and didn't bring back any fish! Everything we caught was either oversized, undersized or illegal to keep (potato cod) every pink snapper we caught was 750mm and bigger so couldn't bring them back.. Managed a good sized rankin cod a Spanish mack and a few crabs. Will post pics up of the trip soon.
Wind was terrible and made us drift at about 1.2 - 1.5 knots so holding ground was hard work... The trip back last night was pretty hairy with 30 knot winds.... Boat handled it well.
We are heading to monkey Mia today to go for a fish out of there.... If there are any locals or fishos that have fished there can anyone give us some pointers on where to go so at least we can bring some fish home?
cheers

3 way swivels
Submitted by Russell Iles on Sat, 2014-10-25 15:32Please no laughing.
Has anyone ever come across a 3 way Ball Bearing swivel?
I use BB swivels exclusively ( except for 3 ways ) from 4 lb right up to 65 lb line.
They are the perfect swivel & if you spend money on the best, you will never have a swivel problem.
By spend I mean you only get what you pay for.
Some are as you would expect cheap & nasty through to well made pices of engineering.
Some of the well known brands are not necessarily the best. Not sying they are garbage, just
saying they are not necessarily the best.
As I said, do not laugh, they might just exist, despite not seeing any on the net.
Cheers fellas.

Abrolhos - Southern group moorings
Submitted by hodgey09 on Fri, 2014-10-24 22:10I have a question regarding the public moorings at the Southern group. I have utilised the 2 moorings around Middle Island, however have not yet ventured to the westerly moorings on the inside. My question is how difficult is it to travel through these passages in regards to risk of coming into contact with bomies etc.
The reason for my question is that the wife has been asking to go to the islands with me & she & the kids want to get there feet on dry land & explore during the day. It seems that these moorings offer an opportunity to access the Long Island, according to my charts it is a sand bottom all the way from the mooring to the beach.
Any advise on which are the easiest Islands within the southern group to access would be appreciated

did he ??? or not ??
Submitted by hezzy on Fri, 2014-10-24 21:19well ,
we had a clown attack today ,
son and I went south today to check pots ,
arrived at the beach , could see our mate diver dan right near one of our pots, very swelly and sloppy heading out towards our gear , arrived at the first pot,to find two divers getting back in their boat & to find the clown owner of the boat , free diver 1 is actually anchored right over our pot, within 3 metrs of me as I pull the pot rope up,no dive flag I asked him what he thought he was doing right on our gear , and it looked bad for him and his mate like that ?told him looks suss mate ??
he said nah we haven't touched your pots , he reckoned we had 6 crays in our pot, just you wait till you pull it and see , we would not rat your pot mate, ........
anyway , we hit his boat several times as we pulled the pot,no choice as he was anchored that close on it , our pot even became jagged on his still set anchor rope ,finally we got it onboard after untangling it from his anchor rope anyway yep six crays in the pot , he also had 2 on the floor of his tinnie that we could see ,
both where free divers , no air, after 10 mins he pulled his anchor and motored off ,
4 of the crays where keepers , 2 went back
next 3 pots produced nothing ,
last two trips out have had all 4 pots catch , total of 41 crays potted , today , 3 pots empty , same ground , one pot with 6 in ,was imo about to be emptied when we rocked up on it in the boat
now question is did the divers rat em ?? imho absolutely yes, given what we have been getting , there is no way we lucked out so badly,...what can we do about it ??....sfa
to all the divers who don't use flags , you bloody well should , to those who want to anchor on someones pots & dive there be prepared to be blamed if the owner comes along & find his catch rate has suddenly dropped right off the radar low,
for the honest guys morally you know it aint right , how about raising the bar and using peer pressure to stamp this shite out hey ?, make it your code to not anchor on set pots ?? can it be that hard to move elsewhere ? when the crays are about like now ?
this bloke today thinks where stupid, however experience tells me he did rat our pots ,
he will keep for now

Flatty season
Submitted by Ben Derecki on Fri, 2014-10-24 11:37Anyone getting into them yet? I had a crack around the Como Scout Hall over the weekend but it's still very weeded up through there. Further north towards the city starts to clear out a lot more but I haven't fished up there yet, I've just noticed it when I'm riding to work.
Not surprisingly I didn’t see any fish other than a chaotic amount of blowies... need the weed to clear out.

Cottesloe

Where does our boat ramp money go??
Submitted by AaronC on Fri, 2014-10-24 07:34Recently went for a short trip up to Denham. Sadly didnt take the boat but was amazed at the quality or the boat ramps and fish cleaning facilities.
There was 2 fish cleaning stations within 100m of each other both the same as the photo below. Bins for fish carcases and lights for night cleaning. Each also had numerous taps on it to wash down and large drain hole in the middle. Top quality and shade too!!!
Got me wondering where our $7+ goes?? i can only gather these facilities were council funded and good on them. But as you all know if you go to Hillarys, Ocean Reef, Mindarie or Two Rocks on a nice weather weekend there would be an average of 100+ boats at each. times this by 100 nice days fishing a years = $$$$$$$$. Why can they not provide quality facilities like these ones? Jurien also has fantastic facilities and one 200th of the population of Perth.
I can only hope some of the money goes to Sea Rescue?
