GW Cage Diving WA??
Submitted by timboon on Thu, 2014-10-02 01:47Attached is a link to Swellnet where the discussion is based around shark diving tourism and the pro's n cons....
It seems the WA government is meeting with a certain charter operator to look at shark tourism in the West....WTF!!!
I'm definitely an anti chum person, I say shut the fuckwits down.... Tow Rodney fox behind the cage boat around the neptunes so we get some science....

Coral Bay
Submitted by oldy on Wed, 2014-10-01 20:17Heading to Coral Bay Saturday week for a couple of weeks. Haven't been there before but going to take our 6.8 metre boat and try our luck. Understand wind will more than likely blow. Any advice would be appreciated re direction / depth to fish / conditions that are usually okay for out wide. Reseach I've done suggests North passage is easiest to get out through. If wind is blowing is the fishing inside the reef worth a try. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Broome fishing advice needed
Submitted by ricey on Wed, 2014-10-01 17:42Hi all,
I am off to Broome for the weekend, have a charter sorted on the Sunday, but have a later arvo free on Friday and Saturday morning. I am flying so have to keep gear down.
Any tips? I know tides are an issue but there for a wedding and so times not negotiable.
Keen on the jetty, any tips? what setup and rigs do you recommend. I only have a standard hire care available.
I tried search function, any other advice would be super.
Any Broome local free to accompany me, more than happy to reward with a carton or whatever.
Neap tides I think will help me a little, and low winds cannot be bad either.
thanks for any help.

Carnarvon advice please
Submitted by demo9pro on Wed, 2014-10-01 14:58Hi everyone, just after some advice on carnarvon, looking at going up from perth for a weekend, was wondering is there any good mangroves to fish? Mostly after jacks, not really looking at ocean fishing, but I have a 10 footer I'm taking up so I can try some mud crabbing too.
is there anywhere that we can camp that isn't a caravan park? Was hoping to find some where up river, but haven't ever been before so any advice will be appreciated!
Cheers

Yanchep lagoon
Submitted by lachieH on Wed, 2014-10-01 11:55hi everyone. I am really determined to catch my first tailor off the beach so on the weekend, gonna leave home at 4am and get to yanchep early at 5:30-6am. I'm going to make a lot of rigs to get around the reef and going to use ride with two poppers.
i have 4 questions.
first one is how many rigs should I make for tailor if I stay for about 4 hours?
is it worth having lighter rods out for herring and whiting etc.?
Is it worth working poppers like halco roosters and richter plugs, if so what colours are best?
and I need 2 lure combos and I only have 1. So for my made up lure rod I am using a 6ft 8-25lb rod which should suit but isn't made for surf and as for the reel I have a tom an GTX 3000 (don't know if that is like size 5000 in shimano but it has a 5.2:1 gear ratio and has only 190m of 15lb mono. I do have a lot of spare xtreme 25lb mono that I use for lure fishing with my stradic 5000FJ. It also has a long spool made for long casting but is an ancient reel about 20 years old I think. So should I leave the same line on it or should I spool it with 25lb for 1 fishing adventure then reload it with its old line again?

A Day Out with the Better Half - Tasty Bag of Happiness
Submitted by Mick C on Tue, 2014-09-30 17:16I may have mentioned this before, but my wife is very tolerant of my obsessive behavior in targeting the pinks. How many times do I get home early from work, hook the boat up and then get home at 9pm. After successful missions then there is the inevitable bullsh*%ing about the trip, photos, texts, blah blah, blah. She does however enjoy the “spoils” and demands that pinks, dhu, blackarse, harlequin and KG are the only things that can come home.
Anyway, with the wind finally being low I surprised her with taking a day off work and waking her up with “hey, why don’t you come fishing with me today?”. Not my usual 5am but a leisurely “let’s try and get out by 9.30”. Let her sleep in while I set the boat up and the 9.30am start was the go – I only ever really fish “daytime” in the comps but the forecast was perfect so why not?
Headed out to my spot at the back of the 3 Mile that has produced so well lately – found it by following a pro cray boat. What do you know, the pots were there and the pro boat was working. There was also a charter boat out there full of people, but no one was fishing? Whales, and a few of them were all around us and from where we were sitting, the show was better than on the charter. Breaching, blowing and a full tail shot within 100m of the boat was quality. All that and you get it for free – well, sort of as owning a boat is never free. Even better, Jill got her first KG when it was all happening – boat pulling pots, whales, charter boat watching and a quality fish.
I have to compliment the cray boat skipper. We were quite close to his pots but he hauled them with skill and seemed genuinely pleased that Jill caught her fish. He might have been actually more pleased by the number of crays in the pot and was in quite a good mood though.
After a while and a disappointing number of undesirable wrasse and parrot we decided to move on to another piece of ground that we discovered previously via cray pots, and what do you know there were more pots there. And, there were more fish. Excellent couple of hours – undersized pinks, KG, a nice Tarwine and Skippy for Jill, a variety of other things and even a 450mm Red Snapper. The Red was a bonus as this was a fish I had never caught before and in <30m - apparently they are very good eating? The same pro came to pick up his pots (did very nicely again and gave Jill a really good cheer when she landed her first pink – undersized but still went hard) and we were joined by some older gents. It was great to see them do really well with a 750mm pink landed on the change of the tide – caught up with the guys at the ramp and they were absolutely stoked – most interest though was in my Minn Kota and how I could stay in one spot without an anchor.
The sea breeze started to come up and it was time to head in. A quick stop at the near shore squid spot and the day came together. Jill can’t wait to get out there again and was so proud that she caught fish you could actually eat. Easily made double figures and is still talking about the experience. Awesome – you don’t have to bring home heaps and they don’t have to be huge to have a really good time.

slide baiting hooks
Submitted by cudbfishn on Mon, 2014-09-29 20:39Hey guys.
I managed to nearly get spooled again last night to find the fish dropped the hooks around 500m from shore. I wound in to see my steel leeder shredded and both my hooks snapped below the barb. These hooks were owner SSW 9/0 circles.
Just wondering what other guys use as I shyed away from gamakatsus for the same reason. I mostly slide whole tailor and wanted to stick with circles. Any recommendations welcome.
Cheers

Penn Torque Spin
Submitted by morgs on Mon, 2014-09-29 15:59Have got the new TRQS7 and have spent the last week trying to figure out what to match it up with so i thought i'd throw it out there and see what the general consensus was. It'll be bottom bashing up to 50m and throwing/trolling the odd lure if i end up using a 3rd rig on my spread. I want the "money is no option" to "tightarse" ideas.
Cheers folks

Just got back from a swing up north, and desparate to get the boat out. I had planned to head out tomoz with a mate from work but the weather is not looking all that favourable. What do you all think? Should we brave the wind and swell or sit on the couch and sulk?

Safety Bay and Shoalwater Thieves not fishing related but could affect those in Safety Bay/ Shoalwater area
Submitted by Gman66 on Sat, 2014-09-27 21:03I live on Penguin road in safety bay and Had a blue Giant brand mountain bike (with baby seat) stolen from inside our fenced front yard yesterday. First tying I did was report it to the Police, then I placed an add on gumtree and had an immediate response from people not far away who's bike had been stolen just as brazenly whilst they were at home.
They provided a description of three dark skinned youths who stole their dad's silver and orange Giant brand mountain bike. They also identified a house that may/may not be linked to the theft. This evening while letting others in my street know there were a crew of thieves active in the area I see 4 young dark skinned blokes (one on my stolen bike and one on a silver and orange Giant) cruising down our street.
I stopped them and explained to them that two of the bikes they were riding were stolen, they made a few comments along the lines that they had been gifted them, some bikes look the same etc.. a couple of them through a few obscenities my way and took off on the two stolen bikes.
The last two (dinking) asked if I was sure the bike was mine, I said yes and explained that I used it to help take the kids to school and if it is handed back along with the other stolen bike there will be no questions asked and no repercussions. They agreed to talk to the other two and rode off in their direction. They had a discussion and then all turned around and yelled obscenities, yahoooing and squeeling and laughing /swearing/abusing me from a distance as they rode off.
I think they thought they had fooled me rather than blow a perfectly good chance to undo a wrong and return the bike to a family that uses it regularly and for all the right reasons.
I called the police this was about 5.30pm, then drove around looking for them and left my number with a few shops/pizza delivery drivers etc...
These guys were given a chance to give the bikes back no questions asked and took a very cowardly and disrespectful path out. I'll be looking around for them and talking with many members of the community to identify where they live and have the police drop by to pay a visit.
In a nutshell if you see these guys on a Blue "Giant" or silver and orange "Giant" or Silver "Avanti" please give me a call so I can follow up and direct the Police in the right direction.
Thanks
G
