daiwa seajigger 325L, any good for popping?
Submitted by just_fishin on Thu, 2013-12-26 21:24hey guys the seajigger seemed abit flimsy when i had a play with it but i am kind of steering towards it because it would make fishing a bit more exciting. it takes little effort to load up. its rated 4-8kg and can throw 20-60 gram lures.
does anyone have this rod? will i be okay working 30-50 gram poppers? i will be throwing other lures but i am asking about poppers because i was told you need a stiffer rod to use poppers, or should i be fine with this? specifically for targetting tailor and salmon
cheers
Shark Bay -Land based
Submitted by Hairyone on Thu, 2013-12-26 16:36Gday.......
Santa was good enough to shout The Mrs, kids and I three nights in Shark Bay next week.
We plan on taking the Commodore for a spin and not the 4x4 but are definitely going to throw a couple of rods in.
A mate of mine is probably going to bring his boat so there is a chance of getting onto some fish, but if not, can anyone give me some advice on fishing spots accessible in a 2x4.
What type of fish are we likely to come across and best rigs and baits etc....
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

article about white pointers
Submitted by perth fisher on Mon, 2013-12-23 08:27http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/wa/a/20431805/mates-loss-returns-to-haunt-diver/
an interesting article about white pointers
During this time he had also taken up shark-fishing licences. His shark boats would head to near the South Australian border to fish for school sharks, Mr Warner said.
"In the November, December, January period the school sharks come in and pup, just on the border and slightly over the border," he said.
"During that time the white pointers came in and pupped in the same area."
Mr Warner said the WA boats were not allowed to fish in SA waters but the SA boats caught vast numbers of great whites.
It was effectively a cull, and it happened for many years, when the abalone divers had no problems with the great whites. It all changed in the mid-1990s when the area over the border was declared a marine park and fishing was prohibited in SA waters.
Mr Warner said the numbers of great whites had been increasing ever since.
"When I hear people say the numbers aren't increasing, and we are only seeing more sharks because there's more people in the water, it is absolute rubbish," he said.
"We have always had six abalone divers here who never saw any pointers and now we have six divers who see pointers on a regular basis.
"We have a pilot who picks up abalone for us, he sees pointers on a regular basis from the air, tourists see them from the cliff tops, amateur fishermen see them from their dinghies, amateur divers have seen them.
"The numbers are mind- boggling compared to what they were in the early 90s and there's going to be more and more fatalities unless we cull them."

Young Guns Fishing vid + new Vimeo channel!
Submitted by catch.fish on Mon, 2013-12-23 08:10Spent a week fishing in Exmouth for my bosses sons bdays over December, they brought a couple of there mates and I came along for the ride to film and help out! Before the trip some herring & whiting where the biggest fish any of them had ever caught or seen. We suffered through some horrible weather but the boys toughed it out with the youngest of the group (14) landing multiple black marlin and some big spaniards, a trip I dont think they'll forget anytime soon!
Got stuck into the footage and put this clip together - make sure you watch in HD or it'll look crap.
Merry Xmas everyone, thanks for watching hope you enjoy!
Edit: Bumping this as youtube butchered video quality so have swapped to Vimeo, looks much better now!

Swapping crays for fish
Submitted by Swompa on Sun, 2013-12-22 19:10Howdy,
Can anyone confirm the legalities regarding swapping crays for fish?
I quite enjoy diving and catching crays but normally give them to my Dickie/ neighbours, but quite enjoy fish, such as tuna and snapper, but with only a tinny, struggle with getting out far enough.
Is it ok to swap produce? Like this coming week (on Tuesday)?
