quick question- where to get a knife in gero or carnarvon
Submitted by Versus on Thu, 2013-12-19 21:39Passing through gero and carnarvon on the way to coral bay tomorrow, realised I don't have a decent filleting knife. Just after a name of a shop to get a decent knife, unless BCF or similar will have some?

Walpole question
Submitted by lextt on Thu, 2013-12-19 09:14Hi everyone
Ive been a member of this forum for a some time now but i have never posted anything so this is my first post.
I have to say this is one of the best forums ive been on and i have been on few and all that is thanks to you guys that make this froum so great.
Anyway, i have a question i would like to ask you lot, i did try to search about it and found some great info but that still hasnt answered my question.
im going to walpole on monday and im taking my boat with me, its a 5 meter haines hunter with 60hp and i would like to go fishing out of estuary which would require crossing the bar which i have never done before.
so my question is, what wind direction and strength of wind is good to go out and what swell is reasonably safe to attempt with my boat.
and if any of you guys are down there and would like to either team up and go out with two boats or be a decky to help me find my way out to do some fishing would be great.
im staying at coalmine beach till 5th of january so come and say hi.
cheers

west coast bioregion fishing rules
Submitted by seadog-1967 on Thu, 2013-12-19 00:48gday just thought I would put a few of my frustrations out there after reading the guide to fishing in perth local waters.first point is at the beginning of the book it shows daily bag limits for pink snapper dhufish, ect and states through these pages,"for boat limits, see page 37",page 37 does not mention anything regarding boat limits and I am inclined to believe that if you have ,eg,3 people with fishing licences that you can take 2 pink snapper each,is this correct?Secondly on page 43 it states,"to protect fish and there habitats some activities are banned. In particular you are not allowed to:use fish traps or pots of any kind [except lobster pots and octopus trigger traps, use dredges, obstruct any bays, rivers " ect,but the one that gets me is where it says "you are not allowed to jag or deliberately foul hook fish with baitless hooks."once again the way I read that is that no one should be trolling lures or jigging for fish and as they include squid in there book I would consider using squid jigs a big no no to ,there are a few grey areas throughout the guide as they call it are there any fisho,s out there with a law degree that can enlighten me on these hard to follow "guides".cheers.

Opening Day Dhuies
Submitted by Seaquest on Wed, 2013-12-18 16:21Headed out early Monday morning for the first fishing trip I have done in ages. Managed our two dhuies by 7am. Got to love this time of year when the dhuies are close in and in good numbers. Spent the rest of the morning jigging a few sambos and also managed to finish the bag off with a couple of snapper. Daves dhuie was a cracker to start the season off, caught on a smith jig. Day was spoilt a bit by a few outboard issues. Hopefully its nothing to serious and I can get back out there before xmas.

Coral Bay at christmas- Who else is up there?
Submitted by Versus on Wed, 2013-12-18 09:12Just putting it out there, I'll be at coral bay for a week starting saturday. After the dinghy i was gonna borrow fell through we've decided to hire a 5.5m half cabin from exmouth boat hire for the week. I've only been to cbay once, and that was without a boat, plus i'm a novice boaty in general, sooooooo... If anyone else will be there with a boat and wouldn't mind having us tag along at some point, for safety and/or some general pointers etc, that would be sweet. I've read about the north and (dodgy) south passage etc, but apart from that don't have much of an idea of where to go.
And in general, if anyone wants to say hello, have a drink or meet up for a landbased fish then fire away.
Will be in Wagoe the week after too!

Fishing/Boating 21st December 2013 Advice Wanted
Submitted by tobefished on Tue, 2013-12-17 15:33Hi All,
Chasing a bit on advice and recommendation for this Saturday. Not after anyone secret spots or location (though would be great if you could provide some shallow water sambo spots! If you were willing to share).
Weather was looking great at the start of the week, now looking a bit more sloppy. My friends and I are novice boaties with all the safety equipment required.
A bit about the boat - centre console, ally, approximately 5.3 meters in length (fits 4 people nicely). Normally launching from Woodies
Original plan was to hit Rottnest to do some sambo jigging in about 40 meters of water, chasing both sambos, demersals and possibly pelagic. Seems like this plan is out the window.
With the wind blowing up to approximately 16 knots - what are your thoughts and where would you go (from Fremantle). Is-it best to stay in close or is-it still safe to head out to the 40s in the weather predicted on Saturday.
Our thought were to head to stragglers reef or even behind garden for some kgw, skippy (I know there still a ban for Demersals ban in Cockburn).
We are still learning the ropes of boating so any recommendation on where we should go would be great or advice if we should stick in close or keep to our original plan will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers again and looking forward to your responses.

Fishing Today
Submitted by gib77 on Mon, 2013-12-16 19:53Anybody get out today for a fish. Been a long long time between fishes but was lucky enough to get out. Was a classic day on the water, bit slow overall, but we did manage a 12kg and 6kg dhu, released a few others. Got a blackass and KG Whiting too but between 4 of us was a bit slow really. Mostly caught between about 9 and 11am. After that we were just floating around, nothing biting...

Reviews on Berkley fireline fused crystal braid
Submitted by jengle88 on Mon, 2013-12-16 17:41Was looking at putting some 4-5lb fused crystal braid on my 2000 reel and was thinking that it will give me aand edge over the fish being that it's relatively clear? I will still be using a good rods length of fluorocarbon leader.
And if so, would it be worth sacrificing the better line vision of the brighter coloured braids?
Thanks
