A Recfishwest Fishing Research Seminar is coming to Bunbury!

Recfishwest is conduction ‘Rods, Reels & Research’ a regional seminar series to be held in Bunbury.

Recfishwest invite you to attend the seminar to be held at
the Lord Forrest Hotel, 20 Symmons St Bunbury
on the 29th of October from 6-8pm

Speakers and topics will include representatives from the Department of Fisheries and Recfishwest staff.

Topics include:

· South-west artificial reefs,

· Mulloway restocking,

· West Coast Demersal Scalefish,

· The recreational crabbing project

An introduction to Recfishwest and its achievements such as:

· The 1 month expansion for Western Rock Lobster season

Bleeding a fish WITHOUT opening up its whole throat

One can still bleed a fish well without having to cut/disconnect its whole throat from its body. Fish with big gaping gaps where their throat used to be dont present well in photos I think.

 

Just run a knife under the gills and you will slice its main arteries and ensure it adequately bleeds out and still have an intact fish for a nice photo  :)

If this story doesn't make you cry for laughing so hard, let me know and I’ll pray for you. This is a story about a couple who had been happily married for years, the only friction in their marriage was the husband’s habit of farting loudly every morning when he awoke the noise would wake his wife and the smell would make her eyes water and make her gasp for air.
Every morning...
she would plead with him to stop ripping them off because it was making her sick. He told her he couldn't stop it and that it was perfectly natural. She told him to see a doctor, she was concerned that one day he would blow his guts out. The years went by and he continued to rip them out. Then one Christmas day morning, as she was preparing the turkey for dinner and he was upstairs sound asleep, she looked at the innards, neck, gizzard, liver and all the spare parts, and a malicious thought came to her. She took the bowl and went upstairs where her husband was sound asleep and, gently pulling the bed covers back, she pulled back the elastic waistband of his underpants and emptied the bowl of turkey guts into his shorts. Sometime later she heard her husband waken with his usual trumpeting which was followed by a blood curdling scream and the sound of frantic footsteps as he ran into the bath room. The wife could hardly control herself as she rolled on the floor laughing, tears in her eyes! After years of torture she reckoned she had got him back pretty good. About twenty minutes later, her husband came downstairs in his blood stained underpants with a look of horror on his face. She bit her lip as she asked him what was the matter. He said, “Honey you were right… all these years you have warned me and I didn't listen to you.” “What do you mean?” asked his wife. “Well, you always told me that one day I would end up farting my guts out, and today it finally happened, but by the grace of god, some Vaseline and two fingers. I think I got most of them back in…….............….

Tubeing question

Bought some tow tubes for the boat and my question is do any of you install the ski clips on your boat or just attach the two ropes to the boat bollards,looking to take the kids out tubeing on the river next weekend,I bought proper tow ropes,wetsuits,and ski pfd vest so are your boats set up for this cheers in advance for the reply's


Best "Find" story?

 So we all know that you can lose all sorts of stuff in stacks of different ways when fishing..but thought I'd throw a line out there to hear some of the good "finders keepers" stories? 

I'll get the ball rolling...

Last yr I was running a camp for my church youth group at woodman point and was throwing a Waboba (great fun) around the bay with one of the young guys.. Went to go fetch it after the ball sailed past me and my foot hit something solid. Bent down and picked up a 9 foot ugly stick/old Shakespeare reel combo. The line was still out so started reeling in hoping for a fairy tale fish to be on the end but it was only weed. Very random! The kid I was throwing with had his back turned when I went to fetch it, so he turns around and I'm standing there with a rod and reel. We had a good laugh about it for a few days. 

 

Keen to hear some other stories - I'm sure there's some rippers out there!


Braid for spinning

 Hi all, heading to Quobba in a few weeks and wanted to get some thoughts on braid to use up there. Will be mainly spinning with 80gm metals and using 30-40lb braid. Haved used Fins, Suffix and Power Pro but looking for something a bit better and thinner for casting. Also mindful that thinner braid will not be so good around the rocks. Budget up to about $100 for 300m. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Frostbite 100 Litre Ice Boxes Opinions

Thinking of getting one of these 100Litre Frostbite mackerel boxes sold by BCF on special for $229 as my main fishing esky. As it is long slender it will fit out of the way perfectly in directly in front the driver and passenger seat in my 6.1 m quintrex with a cuddy cabin.

The dimensions are External = 1350(L) x 380(W) x 430(H). (Internal Dimension = 1140 x 280 x 320) Capacity 100L.

Does anyone have any experience with this brand and size ice box. Are they the way to go as a general fish box as I will be using it for fishing in perth, down south and towards exmouth??

Montebello and Westmore Islands

 Hi Everyone, I am looking at taking the mrs out and doing some overnighters at the montebllo islands and westmore islands while I am still on holidays.  Can anyone tell me where they would put there boat in to get to these islands?  Looking at the closest boat ramps to get a 7m boat in that way I can have more fuel for cruising around when I get there.  Thanks Guys

Sharked Exmouth report

 Just got back from a week in Exmouth, did ok but got seriously sharked out every time we got on them.  Plenty of Mackys, snapper and schooling squid around, just gotta keep moving every time the sharks come in.

FUNDRAISER - please help

Hey guys i know this is probably not the right place for this but it gets the most traffic so here goes.
 
 
 
on november 24th we are holding a fundraiser to help raise money to buy a wheel chair modified van to get my nephew around 
 
 
 
my nephew zak has a shitty disease called freidrichs ataxia which is a disease that basicly wastes away your muscles untill they become useless it affects almost every party of his body apart from his mind 
 
hes a keen fisho as you can see from the pictures but even this is becoming increasingly difficult for him
 
(for some reason fishwrecked wont let me post picture at the moment but all the photos are on the fundraising websitebelow

Exmouth, Help needed.

 Howdy guys, I'm in a bit of a pickle, I need a package picked containing lead sinkers) up from tackleworld in Exmouth and dropped off at the Exmouth Airport (helipad) first thing on Monday morning. I am flying up at 7:00 and am out on a chopper, just don't know what time, so unsure if I can get into town and back in that time.

 

Can anyone help me?

Good dive today, had to come up early as the bag was literally overfull. 14 Crays in the bag, even after 3 escaped whilst putting in another cray,  and still had 100 bar in the tank.

 

There's a jumbo on this lump that's gonna blow the shit out of the FW record book when I get him!!

Diver tangles with Shark off Hilarys

It seems a dude had a very lucky escape today when a bitey chewed his flipper off while diving off Hilarys... Apparently was 4 mtrs so no doubt a white...

Time to run the big gear out you shark hunters...

Its a family friend at Streaky Bay SA who is a pro Shark fisho over there but was out catching a feed of Snapper and Gummys when his berley bag rope started to run before being bitten off... He headed one of the Gummys as can be seen on the end of his Gaff and waved it around in the water before this big girl came up for a squiz... Another bloke had turned up not long before to witness and take a few pics.... Not a lot of freeboard left in the 18ft Gannet!!


Popper fishing info

 Have decided to give popper and lure chucking from the boat a crack. Any suggestions on rod length, reel size (shimano or daiwa), line, lures. I live  in dampier so local info will be appreciated (I don't expect you to give away spots as finding them is half the fun). I await your expertise. Cheers peoples!


Raymarine Dragonfly - anybody got one?

Gday all - just grabbed a Raymarine Dragonfly Chartplotter/sounder/sonar combo - seemed like you get alot for the small price of $850.00 which includes the Navionics Gold card. Havent had a chance to use it properly yet - anybody got one? how do you find it? what depths does it start to lose the underwater imagery? The transducer on it looks like something you'd buy at your local Adults only shop! (and its black too! - ha ha).  Just watched a you-tube video of it being tested over a wreck looks pretty clear on the screen. Any tips on using it greatly appreciated   cheers Dave

FEED IN THE BAN

Thought id throw up a pic of today catch for those who are interested. Still plenty of good fun to be had in the ban. And now a good feed....

Managed our limit of big sandies (60 for 2 people) and 4 KGs just out from Two Rocks. Plenty of boats out so hopefully everyone got a feed and made the most of an awesome day on the water..

Soft Plastics - Changing from Gulp to Zmans

Hi all,

I just converted from bait to soft plastics. Less smell, yay.

Been using Gulp nuclear chicken shads and curly tails mostly.

 

Question with Zmans, what type of jig heads do you use for softies

1/6 or 1/12?......... both for jetty and beach. 

 

I have been using gulp with small jig heads, fish do strike but fish break off when i am reeling them in. 

* been using slow retrieve and small jigging.

How can i improve my strike and retention rate? I usually fish at night. Do Zmans illuminate at night?

I dont use burley.

Hi guys,

Planning on catching up with a mate for a fish this weekend. Just trying to decide where to go. I was thinking between Yanchep & Two Rocks, maybe hit the marina up if things are slow. He has suggested Floreat as it is a bit closer to home. Much happening along the north metro beaches in the last few days or so?

I'm assuming there should be a fair few choppers around at the moment and the odd mulla / small shark?

Hi guys is it just my computer or is any body else getting posts up on their screen with one or two words in the post in red type. If you make the mistake of clicking on one of these words your computer is taken over by bloody adds and crap saying your computer has faults etc. Or as I am inclined to think some how I have got a virus,
So is anybody else suffering from this crap,
Or if it's some new kind of virus how do I get rid of it, I have a virus killer but it isn't working on this crap.

Does anyone target mullas near reefs and not the beach ??

 Just chasing some adivce on chasing mullas on the boat during the ban. I know u can get them from the gutters at beaches but they must live near structure, well thats what I think. So are there anybody else who could help us out with a few reefs they recon in the metro that hold them. I know from living in Carnarvon that we would always get them at the Lady Joyce, Jetty, back of the islands and about 12 miles north of the jetty.

Surely the same principles apply in Perth, they must live somewhere lol

Any help would be great, just want to have a crack at them from the bot.
