Freshwater
Submitted by Hutch on Wed, 2013-10-23 12:42Hey guys,
I'm goig freshwater fishing soon near Dwellingup. Hoping for a few reddies and possibly the odd trout (if there are still any in the Murray). Just wondering if anyone has been doing well on the SW freshwater scene. Not limited to the Murray, and any info will be appreciated.
Thanks

Kingy's and Tuna?
Submitted by Noxious on Wed, 2013-10-23 12:14G'day
I haven't taken the boat out in a few weeks and I'm itching pretty hard.
Has anyone got on the troll since the ban?
Last summer I did really well trolling for YTK's mostly in the 60-120cm range. Tuna were hit and miss for me, landed quite a few bonito (both oriental and watsons leaping) and the odd SBT.
Going to take the boat out regardless with a couple mates wondering if it is worth having a troll around, or just take them to catch some whiting. Not looking for anyones spots, I have my own. Just want to know if people have started to see them turn up.
Cheers.

Portablle Power Packs - Which is best
Submitted by dallasthedog on Wed, 2013-10-23 10:47Hello
I'm looking at purchsing a portable power pack (Thumper getaway 75Ah + 600w inverter).
I'm going portable so that I can switch the unit between my boat (7.2m Leeder which is already equipped with DBS but this will give me more power) and car (1994 Hilux)
I planned on hardwiring the unit via and anderson plug in the back of the Lux (and securing it via a bracket)
Appliances to be run will include 40 ltr engel, 12 volt shower, LED ligiting, 12 volt telly, charge the kids DVD player, phones and laptop, electric frying pan.
I started to google the the Thumper and portable power packs more broadly and as per usual was inundated with so much info it just confused me.
I trust the Fishwrecked crew so I thought I would ask their advice on a) is my plan above a good one and b) if not what should I be looking at doing?
Thanks for any replys

Echo sounder info
Submitted by MandurahMatt on Wed, 2013-10-23 09:19Ok so I've been going through reading old threads, very helpfull. I intend to buy a book about it soon. But I have one question for now, in shallow water ie 4 - 30m what Hz setting do people prefer to use and why? I understand that 200Hz is a narrower beam and 50Hz is wider but what difference does this make?

Share your first fishing experience
Submitted by Formerathlete on Wed, 2013-10-23 08:32I thought some people might find this an interesting thread? Tell us about your first fishing experience. Sorry if its been done before.
Mine was back in about 1968 when I was about 10. We lived opposite the WACA in East Perth with the Swan River just down the road. It was a great place to grow up with heaps to do but also plenty of places to get into trouble.
So where did I choose to fish? Queens Gardens next to the WACA! One night after dark a mate and I made a BIG mistake and decided to fish the ponds with a couple of handlines we had found. 15 minutes later we had a few massive Carp, Koi or whatever flapping on the bank (sorry I don't have pics). Then we were chased out of the gardens by the caretaker... I probably thought at the time that luckily I could run fast... problem was in those days everyone knew everyone... So, next thing the caretaker was banging on our front door... 5 minutes after that my old man gave me the flogging I so richly deserved.
With the memory lingering on my bum for ages I learnt my lesson and never fished Queens Gardens again. But I was hooked from that night on... (pun intended) and turned to the river for my fishing. It just wasn’t as easy as Queens Gardens.
Cheers

Buying a new dinghy in Perth
Submitted by Goodz on Wed, 2013-10-23 07:17Can anyone recommend somewhere in perth that sells new dinghys? Obviously I've done a search and found a few places (dinghy world, seaport marine) but thought there would be more places around that sell tinnys. Helping my father in law buy his first boat so we can get some crabs this summer.
Cheers for any help!

Sinker storage idea
Submitted by catchalittle on Tue, 2013-10-22 22:24Have had a few people on different boats that I have owned over the years and all have made comments about how I store my bottom bounceing sinkers which is a old dishwasher cutlery basket that I grabbed off our old dishwasher before we turfed it out and since then whenever I see verge throw outs that have a old dishwasher amongst them Im quick off the mark and grab another one they are great for storeing 6,12 and 20 ounce sinkers and the the baskets fit inside most gunnel pockets so your sinkers arnt slideing around the boat and each sinker has its own little spot, plus I also use them to store my squid jigs in while they are wet before I put them back in the squid jig wallet and have another one that I put large hard body lures in

Heading up to Jurien Bay to check the place out. 1st time heading up.
Taking up the big surf rod, and a smaller rod for the jetty (hoping for squid).
Any tips or direction that anyone could point me in would be greatly appreciated.
Will be land based only unless the bro comes up with his boat.
Keep hearing great things about the place and thought enough is enough.
Thanks in advance

Sounder Install-
Submitted by Spitfire56 on Mon, 2013-10-21 20:24Hello all,
After reading several posts lately about what everyone is doing while the weather is bad and the ban is on, I thought I would share a few pictures of my recent Sounder install.
Picked up a Lowrance HDS 8 Sounder/Plotter with map very cheap at the Mandurah Boat show (very cheap, if you are interested let me know as the deal may still be on at my local).Idea being to use the HDS 7 as plotter and the 8 as sounder. Never really installed anything like this before so open to feedback, was quite simple and glad I did it. Only thing I found strange is no mounting bolts supplied? Considerations- needed to be able to remove as boat is kept under cover in the back yard (not locked up) so didn’t want to flush mount, wanted sounder to be able to viewed whilst driving but also while standing at the back of the boat when drifting hence the slight angle towards drivers side.
Apologies for the dark photos, taken while boat covered
Any feedback, anyone running similar- share photos?
Thanks for reading

Outrigger opinions
Submitted by sammy85 on Sun, 2013-10-20 17:16Hi all with gamefishing time around the corner and for me the annual gamex trip I want to set up the new boat with outriggers.
my boat is an American tub, a century 2400 walk around. It came over with taco grand slam outrigger bases on the hard top that accept a 1.5 inch or 38mm rigger pole.
i will be fishing for sailfish and black/blue marlin running 24 and maybe 37 in the future from the riggers.
my options are as follows:
i can get the taco telescopic poles that fit into the bases. The problem is that I have heard they aren't very stiff which is a downside for marlin fishing.I have also been told that only the metal poles will fit in these bases not sure if anyone else can shed some light on this?
Another option is to get new bases like the reelax wishbone 450 bases off the side of the cabin with matching 5.5m poles. Has anyone had any experience with the solas outrigger systems? I know this will be a more expensive option but will have this boat for a fair few years to come and will be doing quite a few marlin missions.
Sorry for for all the questions hope someone can answer a few for me. Thanks guys
sammy.

Re furb 7.4mtr Ali boat
Submitted by rayzor23 on Sun, 2013-10-20 15:26I've enjoyed watching the boat re builds and full custom builds by the guys on here and thought I would share my re furb as well
we have had QnW for about 6yrs now and travelled up north to the mackies a couple times until it shut the doors and recently been fishing Gnaraloo which is an awesome spot ,next year we are heading back to the mackerel islands and I'll be launching from exy and fish our way there, which has prompted the re furb.
Because we are painting the boat I figured might as well go all in and replace the twin 90's two strokes with a single four and found a 2008 250 suzuki.
Unfortunately the twins are 25inch legs as is the new suzuki so transom had to be cut and re braced to bring cavitation plate were it needed to be.
At the minute it's been blasted and I've got get all the silkaflex of every weld ready for paint.
Im looking for ideas on deck organisation such as tackle storage and other space saving ideas, also battery storage and set up.
I also have a kill tank which leaks onto deck and I'm looking for suggestions on latches and sealing ideas
Thanks fellas any thoughts would be appreciated
Ray
