Lead
Submitted by funngames on Wed, 2012-07-18 20:27Hey guys I've been loosing to many sinkers so the other day I bought a mould to make my own...
Just wondering where you all get your lead from whe making yours. Surely there's an alternative to buying new roll... And the salvage yards around are dry...
Cheers in advance for any info

Best bottom bouncing rod for $150 or under
Submitted by Rig on Wed, 2012-07-18 13:22Hey guys
A mate of mine is looking for a cheap but half decent bottom bashing outfit as he is an occasional fisherman that has been borrowing gear me but seems to be going more and more and wants some of his own.
Whats required is it has to be graphite and OH to suit possibly a 16/20 fin nor offshore, capable of running 50lb braid for bait and sinker fishing probably no deeper than 50m arounmd perth and the midwest. rod length 6ft or there abouts
He was hoping to pick something up for under $150, if anyone has a nice 2nd hand rod that fits this budget he will also consider
cheers

Winter crabs?
Submitted by silly on Wed, 2012-07-18 11:06Hey guys,
I'm trying to take some overseas visitors out on the boat for an cruisey day of crabbing/squidding.. I was thinking the sound will give me option to do both. But what are the crabs like to get this time of year in the sound? Is it even worth taking them out or just stick to squidding only? Not trying to bag out.. Just want a couple for the experience and a feed.
Any where else I can go for a winter crab?
Cheers

Stoinka's Joke for the Day
Submitted by Stoinka on Wed, 2012-07-18 09:31 A female reporter, interviewing an American Indian chief, asked the significance of the varied number of feathers in Indian headdresses.
"Feathers show number of sexual partners," the chief replied. Indicating a nearby young brave, he continued, "Him? One woman, one feather. Him?" pointing to a second, older man, "Three women, three feathers."
The reporter looked at the Chief's headdress. "But you have so many feathers!"
The Chief proudly slapped his chest. "Me Chief. Sleep with all women. Big, small, fat, tall."
Horrified, the female reporter said, "You ought to be hung!"
The Chief said, "Damn right. Me hung big like buffalo, long like snake."
The offended reporter said, "You don't have to be hostile!"
The Chief replied, "Hoss-style, dog-style, wolf-style, any style!"
The reporter cried, "Oh, dear!"
"No deer", said the Chief. "Ass too high, run too fast!"

NZ Life- its been a while
Submitted by terboz123 on Wed, 2012-07-18 07:15Hey all
been a while since i have thrown up a post. Works been full on and i havnt really had that much time to update...just work and fishing.
Been fishing when i can, hitting up the systems that are still open around taupo and taumanui. Fishings been hot and cold, with the rains the trout seem to come realy on the bite after a new group of fishing come flying through the systems to get higher in the mountains.
Been starting to do solo fishing, with out the guide and slowly picking it up. Been getting fish everytime just not in the quanities i once was haha. It all comes down to experience and time on the systems.
Fished with my guide on sunday though and did really good 15 rainbows and 2 browns all between 4-6 pounds, So nothing to go screaming about.
Mariah my better half was over for 3 weeks, so i have added some photos of the snow, mt rheupo or how ever you spelll it.It was our first time in the snow which was pretty coool. Sorry for the short thread i dont really have time to put massive paragraphs right now.
the brown in the photo sent me on a wild chase i was in near water up to my neck trying to get him away from rocks, as you have far more control over fish with a shorter line out. Some of these rainbows send me on 100m+ runs down the side of the rivers...........

Tantabidde been trashed
Submitted by bluemule on Tue, 2012-07-17 20:11Hi guys and gals,
Just returned from Exmouth after 12 great weeks at Yardie caravan park. The new ramp is great for all to use, BUT A BLOODY DISGRACE To see the cans/bottles and rubbish left stuffed in the pylons daily ,not to mention the crap allready showing on the bottom. SHAME on those who do this.On another note can anyone contact the council, as while removing other peoples rubbish We did notice that some of the bolts that hold the rubber buffers to the pylons are allready missing. My wife and I love the the trip, except the all the windy days we encounted. We have allready planed a return trip in a few years time.

For all the Eagles supporters, if Uncle and Big John start to take over while I am away just ignore them...Either that or give them shit LOL.

Male or female dhuie's
Submitted by NORUN NOFUN on Tue, 2012-07-17 12:57This is a question for the guys who regularly catch dhuie's.
On a ratio, how many male to females would you catch over a 12 month period ? or how many male to females you have ever caught ?
Looking at alot of pictures of fish from others on here, alot of them seem male. ( just a guess though )
There seems to be alot of great atricles on WA Dhuie's, and am keen to learn more about them.

project boat progress story
Submitted by brenz on Tue, 2012-07-17 07:20well here are the progress shots of a tinny we are trying to bring back to life...
The challenge was to make a fully functionable bream boat / shallow water inshore flats boat complete for under $1500 and this is how we have gone so far.
dinghy : 12ft unknown hull although im fairly sure it may be a clark
trailer: custom built (along time ago)
Outboard : Black anchor (mercury) 20 hp
bags and bags full of acc : anchor , lights , life jackets etc
=$800
so then we started the fun part
paint strippers = $30.00 , this was the least fun part of the project to date but it was definatly neccesary as there would have easy been 10 layers of paint and all different colours.
after stripping the boat back we found some welds that were in need of some attention so off to coraline boats in bayswater to have her welded up (carton of piss)$60.00
i dropped the motor into boatcity only to find she wouldnt start "typical bloody merc" so into the workshop she went and a few days later dood as new and $200.
now to the paint this was a quick job (remembering we were doing this on a budget) spray can outdoor enamel and $30 , and believe it or not she came out a ripper.
decking: this was not a part i wanted to skimp on so marine ply it was and thanks to a good friend from the site free was the call and away i went (cheers mate you know who you are)
carpet was marine carpet from bunning went for a nice shade of blue $110.
and that is where we are up to so far total $1200
all that is left now is a sounder and i will have some more piks up soon once she is looking finished, also the paint in these photos is no where near what it is at the moment i just dont have any current piks.

Fishing for my birthday
Submitted by Matt T on Mon, 2012-07-16 20:11G'day all, I want to get some opinions about what I should do fishing wise for my birthday in August.
The misses wants to get me a nice pressie (which I have to pay for anyway so no more than $300 - $400 or so!) and my first thought was get out on a decent charter. Judging by previous posts I would have to say that Whitey in Jurien would be the pick but with 3 daughters (youngest only 5 months) and being an overnight kinda thing it might be a bit much time to leave the woman holding the babies.
What else would you guys recommend? I have all my own gear but have never really got to catch anything decent! My best fish in the last few years would be a 70cm snapper that I got on a scoopon charter.
You blokes must have some suggestions, I'm very time poor these days but my budget can really stretch as need be. I wanna decent photo to put in my hallway - you know the ones I see here all the time - a great fish with a bloke that is over the moon to be out on the water and got something!
All input from you guys would be most appreciated!

Filleting Fish
Submitted by snapper on Mon, 2012-07-16 18:18Two guys cleaning fish at a table one cuts through the rib cage and stomach area to get a bigger fillet (brother in law) , the other cuts over the rib cage and avoids the stomach area resulting in a smaller fillet (me)
Which way is correct.

Submitted by hekser on Mon, 2012-07-16 17:47Howdy guys, wondering if anyone out there has a TIG and proficient in ali welding? just bought a 16ft dinghy with a small crack in the hull that needs to be patched, 1.5cm -2cm long maybe 2mm wide.
anyone interested in a cashie or can steer me in the direction of a mob who can do it for a reasonable price? cheers. i can clean it up and do all prep work - currently has silicone on it which holds but before i take it anywhere that isnt the river id like it fixed properly- toyed with the idea of bogging it up but maybe as well get it done properly... cheers
