Warning there is a
Submitted by meglodon on Sat, 2020-12-19 13:26Low life insipid piece of human excrement that is using Novara ramp and likes to brag about how he breaks the law on catching demersals.
At the end of the Novara ramp this morning I observed what I think is a large frame of a dhui and some frames of what look like good size baldies.
You fornicating hero.
If any member observes some single cell life form doing this use your mobile take a picture and report them ASAP.
It is excrement like this that should have their boat confiscated and castrated so that they can't bread any more forms of life that might resemble them and follow their actions.

What to take?.
Submitted by Silver Fox on Tue, 2020-12-15 14:46 It's happening people.
Friday marks the start of the next chapter in myself and my wife's life together, hopping in the cars with the mutts and heading to Cairns for two weeks before making the jump up to Thursday Island for the next three years or so. I'm taking the big duck over early next year with all of my fishing and spearing gear and I'm allowed to take a rod tube on the plane with some reels and tackle ( 23kg of luggage has got 6kg of clothes to last me for the next three months so boardies n shorts are the go as there's no work on my horizon for the foreseeable future....:)
Soooo that leaves me with 14kg of space for fishing stuff.
Im thinking one whippy light rod for chasing squiddly diddlies and chucking some twisties around. Seven foot graphite with a Penn affinity 4000
A couple of bigger rods for getting belted at the local jetty. Shiamano Terez with Daiwa Saltist 6500
Lastly my trusty Demonblood rod with a Talica 12 2 speed if I can get lucky and get a boat fish in.
What sort of placcies, lures and poppers would you be packing?
Thanks people.

Poly garden pipe in a boat?
Submitted by nebbian1 on Tue, 2020-12-15 12:07Hi all,
I've recently bought a boat, and am a little concerned at the hose that connects the skin fitting to the kill tank. It looks like it's normal garden poly pipe (3/4"), which kinks easily, and can split at the kink if you're not careful. It's the one running from the camera all the way to the back of the boat in the attached picture.
As this is below the waterline, I'm concerned about it.
I bought some radiator hose (thick rubber, reinforced with string) however it seems like it's a little too thick to get through the passageway underneath the fuel tank.
What hose would you recommend for this application?

Jigging advice
Submitted by joycey on Mon, 2020-12-14 17:09Hi all,
With the demersal closure finishing, I plan to give jigging for demersals a go.
I launch from Woodmans point, just wondering how far to head out to jig. Is garden island or five fathom bank suitable, or do you need to go further for jigging?
Cheers

Trailer maintenance advice
Submitted by greyheads1 on Mon, 2020-12-14 14:06I'm just experiencing a few issues with brake seize (intermittent failure to release or partial application) on an electrically braked trailer. Issues arent consistent which suggests a connection issue somewhere. Can anyone receommend a mobile mechanic (I'm north of the river, Sorrento).
Thanks

Icebox recommendations
Submitted by davewillo on Mon, 2020-12-14 13:23Hi all
I'm looking for a new quality icebox to go on the new boat. Quite specific dimensions to get the biggest I can fit in the space. We will be doing weekenders to Rotto/GI and maybe up to 4 days at a time max, so ice retention is important. Boat has a small fridge for food items - this will be a drinks esky.
Any recommendations on brands to look at or one to avoid? We know a good one isn't cheap but I wont even think about that for a second when I pull the first ice-cold beer of the day out of it!
Cheers

Whiting ID
Submitted by anypuddle on Sat, 2020-12-12 16:35 Great day out with my boy, landed a good dhu on my whiting rod,
20lb trilene, tiny circle hook and a pea sized piece of prawn. Plenty of whiting and a big kg for the boy. 11 crays on the way back in. Moved my pots 100m further out onto the proper reef/ sand edge. Tried for herring but caught gardie after gardie, heaps out there but I think there still protected.
Cheers.

Raymarine vs Garmin sounder
Submitted by stoneFISH2 on Wed, 2020-12-09 19:33Hi guys I am looking at putting a sounder/chartplotter combo on my new aluminium 5.5m centre console and as I have no experience with either would like to hear what people think of either brand or any other good value brands. Price range is up to $3500 and I was buying 2 ,run one as a sounder the other as a chartplotter only.
Depth wise I would be fishing no deeper than 70m , as I live down in Mandurah.
cheers!

the noise that fish make
Submitted by meglodon on Tue, 2020-12-08 15:41After just having read a story on a site called "Sporcleblog" about the different noises fish make and the noise associated with different types of fish I was wondering if any members have read similar stories and do they know if any companies have experimented with producing a device that recognises species of fish by the noise they make.
What are your views on using such a device to locate fish the same as a fishfinder except using the noise the fish produces and thus locate the fish and identify what species of fish is making the noise.
Just a thought

DIY Winch Install
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Sun, 2020-12-06 18:35Been procrastinating on this one for too long and after the Mrs made a meal of dropping the anchor at a packed Rocky Bay it was time.
Have been researching for ages and had the Bell Viper in mind but the fellas at Whitworths have been less than helpful with advice. I walked into a new store MACA in Wangara for some fuel hose and after an hour chatting walked out with $2k worth of winch and accessories. I ended up going the 1000W Micro with the hi spec rope.
It's taken me all week getting up at 5am to chug away before work as I like to plan, measure, mark, walk away, sleep and remeasure before I start drilling holes. Neodymium magnets are a must have tool for seeing exactly where you'll be drilling through on the other side of the well.
So far I've got the roller, winch, wiring and switches in and need some longer bolts to mount the bow roller and run the winch wiring through the anchor well.
