Young kids and diving
Submitted by Oracle on Thu, 2011-06-02 23:49Guys,
Been reading on other sites about kids as young as 9 diving. Got a few questions.
1. Anyone know what age is legal and what restrictions are placed upon them? Depth, daylight etc
2. Anyone know of kids diving? What age?
3. Who would be best to teach them?
I understand risks involved and I'm not looking at getting my young fella into diving for another few years, but when I saw someone getting dive gear for their 9 year old, sort of took me back a bit. I was thinking about 12 and they may have the ability to understand and comprehend.... Or am I just too old and have forgotten the fun and abilities of youth?

Kalbarri caravan park recommendations?
Submitted by lunker on Thu, 2011-06-02 22:59Hey guys, I'm heading to Kalbarri on the 16th with a mate for 6 days, towing a small caravan.
I think there's 3 caravan parks in town but I have never stayed at them - only been to Kalbarri once ages ago.
Can anybody recommend the best to stay at for a powered site, taking into account price, location (to the pub) etc?
Thanks, I'm aiming for one of these bumper tailor I hear about!

rays/losing gear
Submitted by JIM1 on Thu, 2011-06-02 21:44last weekend me and a mate hooked onto a couple of rays down at eshed, i dont know much about the norm on them if people like to eat them or what ever. so when i realised what it was not long into the battle i was prepared to cut my rig off after the fight, my mate on the other hand (using my gear) wanted to gaff his up so he could get the rig back and i ended up cutting the line as the damage to the ray isnt worth the rig.
do people eat these or what, after the whole steve irwin thing im not keen on getting to close even thou the chances are very slim, are they protected or?

Yearly boating cost
Submitted by glastronomic on Thu, 2011-06-02 21:04Just to expand on "the other topic"
What are your estimated boating (maintenance) costs per year.
I do almost all my own servicing and maintenance so just the costs of blingy new- and nessecary parts plus insurances and licenses.
This could be a wee bit "painfull" for some who like to forget.
I up front appologise for this inflicted pain caused

Light Vs. Heavy Gear
Submitted by Spinnerak on Thu, 2011-06-02 20:09I know a lot of people fish 30-50lb for demersal species, but someone told me about a guy who fishes a 2500 size reel, 4-6kg rod and 8lb braid.
He then went on and said he got a 20+kg sambo along with decent snappers and dhuies (up to 8kg).
My question is how do you not get busted up on light gear on rough ground, or do the fish not try and bury you if you fish light?
Thanks,
Andrew

Catalyst on ABC tonite - Beach Worm Whisperer
Submitted by till on Thu, 2011-06-02 20:07http://www.abc.net.au/catalyst/stories/3233899.htm
They live in the shore break along the beaches of the east coast of Australia and can grow up to three metres long. These amazing creatures are polychaetes, a segmented worm with jaws and lots of leg-like structures. Marine expert Phil Colman takes on willing student, Ruben Meerman, in an attempt to coax some out of the sand.
Thats some sneaky bait!

Online marine parks submission
Submitted by marble on Thu, 2011-06-02 18:48I copied this from the enviromental topics forum for those of us who dont read that one as much as we should. . .
In the interests of encouraging all anglers to have their say on the draft marine park plan for the South-West, we have set up a website to make it simple.
Either just use the template we have on there, add some of our suggestions, or put it in your own words.
Add your name and details and away it goes!
Simple and easy - no excuse not to have your say now!
Please forward link to as many people as you can, we need to encourage all fishers to have their say.

Anchors for the FADS for Jurien
Submitted by sunshine on Thu, 2011-06-02 14:33I have been chasing around given prior comments on this site about the cost of anchors for the FADS at Jurien and, by coincidence, had contact with one of our clients arising out of the Brisbane flood.
They have available locally old railway wheels (averaging around 300kgs each) which to me would be ideal for the purpose of securing the fads in position and a damned sight cheaper than anchors. Whilst I know we are heading into winter we need to plan now for the upcoming season - the wheels cost $375 per tonne (so roughtly 3 to a tonne)
I am prepared to start the ball rolling by putting up an opening stake of $100 toward the cost ............we will need someone with a hyab or similar to be able to collect and transport them to Jurien
If Whitey believes these would be suitable - How many do we need to secure as I am sure the avid fisho's on this site will be able to come up with the balance of the cost
Ball is in your court - my contact at the rail organisation is in Taiwan until next week so can I please get some feedback so I can keep this on the boil

just wondering what settings you found gave good results that i could try next time i'm out deep?
was getting solid bottom reading's out as deep as we went (330 ish) but had to colour erase the clutter away . ended up running high amounts of clutter/colour erase which must be wrong.
what tvg are you using??

Submitted by Blue Whaler on Wed, 2011-06-01 19:10Some %$#^$&*^ HACKER took over my GMail account - for any members who had dealings with me through my GMail account - when you receive a mail to the line off:
"Hope you get this on time, I made a trip to Aberdeen, Scotland and had
my bag stolen from me with my passport and credit cards in it. The

just have to pay for a ticket and settle Hotel bills. Unfortunately
for me, I can't have access to funds without my credit card, I've made
contact with my bank but they need more time to come up with a new
one. I was thinking of asking you to lend me some quick funds that I
can give back as soon as I get in. I really need to be on the next
available flight.
I can forward you details on how you can get the funds to me.
I await your response....
