New passing lanes on NW Coastal nearing completion

New passing lanes on NW Coastal nearing completion
Portfolio: Transport

Transport Minister Simon O’Brien said today that construction of two new vehicle passing lanes on North West Coastal Highway in the Gascoyne would be open by the end of November.

BGC Contracting is building the lanes at a cost of $2.3million.

Mr O’Brien said North West Coastal Highway was a key tourism, pastoral and mining route and the safety of its users was paramount.

“Road safety is a priority area for the State Government and building two new passing lanes on the highway between Burkett Road and Barrdale will improve safety and traffic flow,” he said.

“The highway is also a major freight route with triple road trains operating north of Carnarvon.”

The Minister said demand for the movement of freight would increase with significant industry expansions and new mining developments in Western Australia’s Gascoyne and Pilbara regions.

“The Gascoyne and Pilbara form the foundation of Australia’s buoyant economy, with much of our crucial mining infrastructure located in these regions,” he said.

“With expansion in the two regions set to increase even further, it is vital we ensure one of the major routes to the region is safe and reliable.”

Meanwhile, re-sealing works over eight kilometres on Great Northern Highway in the Kimberley have been completed.

The works are part of a $4million upgrade of Great Northern Highway, 90km west of Fitzroy Crossing.

stress relife

i have come to the conclusion that my boat is stress relife for me!!!!

i am normally a pretty easy going guy that takes it as it comes and dont stress too much (i thought)

it has now been 3+ weaks since i have been in the boat and i have noticed in the last couple of days the slightest little thing is pissing me off, if i dont get out this weakend or monday i think someone is going to get it!!!!!

i was talking with my brother-in-law the other day, who is younger than me and has more grey hairs than i do, i told him it was cause he dosnt get out on the boat enough.

anyway heres hoping for some good weather this weakend?

cheers ron

mobile s/steel welder

does anybody know someone that is mobile and is able to modify a rocket launcher,

needs a couple of bits made and a couple of pipes lengthened.

mobile would suit best or someone that is in welshpool area (no boat shops) and can store the boat while the job is getting done. 6.5mtr boat

thanks in advance

ron

Saltist V Saltist

So I am looking at buying a new overhead reel to go on my new JigWrex rod. Decided upon the Saltist brand and went into the tackle store to talk to the guys. Been in there twice and both times different guys swayed me different ways. First off I was leaning toward the black Lever Drag 40H but then a different guy told me the normal silver 30 would be better for jigging. I am mainly using it for jigging with a little bit of trolling and putting 50lb braid on it. Anyone willing to share their experience using these reels or knowledge of them would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Rockingham/Mandurah LB help

G'Day Everybody.

I don't usually ask for help as i like to experiment and work it all out but i'm heading south over chrissy and i'd love nothing more than spending some time fishing, squidding and crabbing in the week leading up to xmas to put some fresh food on the table.

Looking for locations, tips and advice on where i can find some LB squid, seems you guys are getting a few lately and i'd love to know where to look, i was gonna hit up woodmans point and warnbro sound on the northern side for some early morning squid. Would love to go scooping for crabs, never done it before and i'd like to know where is a good palce to go for that in the estaury and lastly some places in relative calm that i can fish with the light stuff, being up north i don't own a surf rod so it limits me a bit. Also where i can get a prawning net as i have seen people on the bridges scoping the prawns coming in with the tide at night.

coming down with my sambo combo (any offers for a fish will be much appreciated and i'll return the favour in Karratha), SP combo and a light spinning combo as well. looking to keep it all artificial with SP's and lures but will bait up if needed.

Cheers in advance guys.

more HDS sounder shots

For those interested, here are some more sounder shots taken since I've had the unit.
cray country
Photobucket

50khz on the left, 200khz on the right. The left is Lowrance's "bottom lock", this can only, for some stupid reason be displayed with a white or blue background.
Photobucket

Something else I don't like is the fact the colours change depending what palette you select. Yellow can be hard on one palette, while red is hard on another. What is that happy little camper sitting alone on the right of the bottom lock?
Photobucket

Anyone care to interpret these two?

Fishwrecked 4WD and Fishing Adventure

Sherbs is hoping to get a few Fishwrecked members together for an overnighter fishing and 4wd outing at a location to be selected north of Perth.

Initially he would like to get expressions of interest and then we can move forward with selecting a date.

So if you are keen for a fun, low cost fishing trip, put your name down.

Crays in Perth.

Im looking to get into some Crays this season just looking for a couple of pointers. I will mostly be free diving and have heard people do okay in 5-7m of water off hillarys and areas like that when there in close. This true? Also are there Crays in close all season with more at certain times or are they all in at the same time and all out deep at the same time?

No heros thanks just looking for pointers not exact locations or anything like that.

Cheers

Busselton Jetty opening delayed

Who knows when the jetty work will be finished. Work on the jetty was suspended last Friday and it's not known when it will resume after Marine and Civil went into voluntary administration and owe local businesses in excess of $250000. The shire are pushing for 5th Feb 2011 completion to coincide with the Jetty Fiesta, what ever that's gonna be.
Watch this space.

Cheers

Got Me A Kayak

Hey guys I got a kayak of gumtree for 250 bucks with a seat attachment to I brought it of an old couple what a score.Me n a few mates have invested in them to do some fishing in the rivers down south and maybe the ocean .With the demersal ban on an also for just for fun and fitness and something different. They are easier to cart around and dont need to be licenced . It a venturer kayak an i have installed 2 rod holders behind the seat, invested in a dry bag and created a paddle holder and have my small tackle box situated behind me in the indentation. Been down to south and scored some nice redfin on light gear and just paddled around friken great fun.  Funniest thing is my mates brought gizmo kayaks like like 800-900 bucks . Im pretty pleased with my buy for 250 lol .

megabass siglett

hey,

has any one tried using megabass sigletts for bream??

or used them in general?

if so, what do you think about them and what retrieve would you recomend.

cheers, Tom.

Trouble with the big fellas -- Knot

After listening to all the shark stuff down south tried on a very blustery day up here in Dampier to have some shark fun. Metal trace with 9/0 Hook through the head and tail of a flag filleted. Certainly a nice take and fight, but I am sure despite the culprit heading for the reef it was a Noah. Now I am very lazy, but tie in the 50lb braid a modified Palomar to the swivel. It is 3 loops through the swivel, and a figure 8 double knot rather than a wrapped over granny to complete (with a sh*t load of slober to lube). I believe in this but the feeling that followed was not grind vs reef, it was pure "ping", and I am sure the braid didnt just pop. I am to lazy for Noah's to tie a Bimini/GT etc but somehow my mod Palomar failed IMO. Any suggestion as I am going to catch this particular shark that I have seen at least 3 times hounding one of my favourite "sure to catch" a feed spot. Neels

crabs in the sound

are there any yet and is there a season, if so when does it start,
