Pics from the East
Submitted by FlyingFisherman on Wed, 2010-10-27 13:59I am a recent new member and sponsor with our polarised sunnies, I love my fishing ! mainly estuary for mulloway or bream and crabs here on the Hawkesbury River ,Sydney. The variety and size of the fish you guys get is amazing. We sponsored a couple of gamefish tournaments over last summer, at Port Stephens in Feb where 55 boats tagged and released 114 marlin over 2 days and Sydney in May where the YFT were on the chew !

Exmouth billfish question.
Submitted by Faulksy on Tue, 2010-10-26 20:16I was wondering if any one could tell me what months are the best for billfish in Exmouth? Additionally do they get many Blues down that way or is it more Blacks and sails.

under floor - Fuel sender unit problems
Submitted by fishnguru on Tue, 2010-10-26 19:21Have had a dodgy fuel gauge for a while - so I ripped up the hatch in the floor and replaced the compete sender unit -
When you power up the unit to test it stays on FULL and when you move the Float level arm Manually it moves from FULL to OVER FULL! - I read somewhere that if it is not earthed properly it can read Full all the time . Checked that and its still the same .- Any Ideas ?????

Phuket Fishing - Thailand
Submitted by hk85 on Tue, 2010-10-26 13:41Hey guys,
I"ve done a quick search of the forums, seems like getting a charter in Thailand is a bit hit and miss.
Has anyone actually gone on a charter in Thailand and had some success? They seem to be selling the whole Sailfish, GT, Tuna thing a fair bit...
Thinking of booking with these guys:

Jigging Master T-091 handle
Submitted by JohnF on Tue, 2010-10-26 11:19More opinions please......
Looking to replace the disgraceful standard knob on my Stella 10,000.....how a reel can cost $1k and have such a banger knob is beyond me..............
Have looked at either a new ali knob (45 mm JM??) or JM T bar, but the T bar always looked very awkward and uncomfortable....until I tried a JM reel the other day which had a T bar......did not like the JM OH reel, but LOVED the T bar.......at least to hold in the shop.
Has anyone used either one for extended jigging, and opinions....will be for 300-400 g jigs on the Stella, so will be getting a workout......the existing knob will be going....it is a dunger!

saltist o/h spool
Submitted by turts on Mon, 2010-10-25 16:03just finished spooling up my new saltist 30 2speed overhead. i was able to fit 550m of 50lb easily with minimal backing. I thought i would struggle to fit the lot on but ended up falling short of a full spool.
Im wondering whether its worth stripping the spool to add more backing or would i be wasting my time. i assume would only get say 50 more metres max of mono backing, cause have to consider I still need to attach my wind-on.....
also do people tend to use the external fixation to mount the reel more securely to the seat/rod? i doubt it is necessary but i could be wrong?

daiwa tierra 135H help
Submitted by turts on Mon, 2010-10-25 15:26gday guys just after peoples thoughts on this reel. I own the 135H and not very familiar to overheads im more of a spin person.
What are peoples thoughts on it as a barra reel? is there anything that would limit it for this use eg. casting lures up north?
if so what strength line would you recommend to spool it with? from my understanding river barra fishing is not so much about capacity but you need something decent strength ie. 20-30lb? is this reel too small for this kind of fishing?
cheers

How to catch a huge carp/koi in a river
Submitted by sp4lyf on Sun, 2010-10-24 20:04A mate and I have been asked by the shire and CALM to remove a large koi from a local river system.. this thing has been living in a stretch of river(about 250 meters contained by rock walls) for about 5 years and is easily a meter long and 4-6 kilo..its fricken huge..its easisly spotted on the surface and with some stalking from the bank u can stand about 2 meters from it. but its also very cautious and will take off as soon as it sees u.. same goes with a coanoe but u cant get as close..
we been trying for years for the fun, with all sorts of bait and light tackle, soft plastics, we've set gill nets, we even spent hours stalking it with gigis and guns in the water in 5 mm diving suits and weight belts...
but recently weve decided to try and take it alive..Does Anyone out there have any idea how to catch this smart ass fish with some sort of trap design, net or tackle..
its needs to go as its eating all the endangered marron and ruining the river floor.
any help would be much appreciated..
