Chasing alvey
Submitted by crezz on Thu, 2020-03-19 13:35Hi all,
I’m chasing an alvey reel either 651E5 or 700E5 specifically for rock groper fishing with my custom built fsu 6120 rod. Bit of a long shot here in the west but I love the old alvey.
cheers,
Crezz

Broome Boating Facilities Survey
Submitted by dodgy on Thu, 2020-03-19 09:25 For all those that love to visit Broome or even plan to one day.
Broome for all their marketing as a tourist destination has very poor boat launching facilities. Beach launches with vehicles in door depth water is a common sight.
Feel free to jump over and answer these couple of survey questions and hopefully there will be some funding sent their way sooner rather than later.
Personally I’d stopped fishing the Billfish tournament as the launching logistics just got too hard and not worth the tow.

Coral Bay or Exmouth??
Submitted by bussogirl on Tue, 2020-03-17 13:01Hi
Just wanting some info on Coral Bay or Exmouth
Looking at booking a week or more in July in either Coral Bay or Exmouth
We have 2 boys, 5 & 8 plus taking up our quintrex 475 so can't be going out to deep with the kids.
Do both towns have good boat ramps?
Can you fish just of coral bay or is it all sanctuary zoned?
Can anyone recommend which caravan park is good or hire house in both places
Also which is safer for beach fishing
Any other info would be great

Cheynes beach report - no salmon yet
Submitted by flangies on Tue, 2020-03-17 06:38Just spent four days spinning hard for no salmon. Still a little bit early I think. Plenty of bread and butter fish. The beach is totally weeded up you'll be lucky to keep a bait in the surf for more than 2 minutes. Beautiful part of the country though so it's always good to get away.

New Boats
Submitted by Southside boati... on Mon, 2020-03-16 13:56Southside Boating and Fishing is now introducing boats to our store!
First out is the Bay Runner, a compact 14”6’ well built little glass boat that is perfect as a tender or just for cruising the rivers or canals.
Five sealed foam-filled bulkheads under the deck makes this boat super safe and with tons of storage space, this boat will surely be a hit with families.
The boat can be powered with as little as a 30hp outboard with enough strength to carry a 75hp four-stroke and has many features such as moulded drinks/water holders, under gunnel moulded rod holders and an optional ski/trolling bar.
It is perfect for a fun-filled family day on the water as well as for fishing, squidding, crabbing and prawning as it has an easy to clean, self-draining non-slip deck.
The Bay Runner is built to last and comes with a split bow rail and three grab rails with a Perspex windscreen to protect the skipper.
This smooth water boat comes on a heavy-duty, licensed, galvanized trailer for less than 22K and must be seen to be appreciated!
Denmark & Surrounds Advice
Submitted by Chevy68 on Sun, 2020-03-15 17:39Hi All, just joined the forum and this is my first post!
I am heading down to Denmark on Wednesday for 5 days of fishing, primarily chasing Salmon. I have a capable 4x4 and prepared to hit the beach and tracks.
I am looking for some advice on spots to fish. I have searched the forum's old posts, and I have earmarked Parrys/Mazzoletti's and Lowlands as some likely spots. I would love to try some rockfishing to expand my options such as Bonito & Skippy, if I can't find the Salmon. I am not keen on scaling cliffs or risking my life on dangerous ledges, however is there some relatively safe spots to rock hop with decent water out front, other than the typical McGeary's?
I would welcome any and all advice and I will post up some photos and a report when I get back!

Shark bay fishing at easter
Submitted by scotto on Mon, 2020-03-09 15:37i'm headin to shark bay for a week over easter with the misso and kids. although i regularly go to dirk hartog on the boat (from Denham), i havent fished around shark bay for 24+years!
weather permitting i'm taking my new 22ft whittley, but i'm chasin general areas and info for beach and (if the weather permits) boat fishing around the whole shark bay marine park.
I know theres squid at the jetty at night, and the shallows around town used to have good sand whiting, but it'd be great for my girls to land a few good tailor from a beach/rock, or a pink or 2 from the boat. I know some of the bays on the eastern side look AMAZING, but dont know if they hold fish or not?
the search function looks rooted atm so I couldnt search there, so if anyones got some pointers, fire away! pm if you want to keep it hush ;)
pics below are from DHI trip september last year.
cheers boys,
scotto

RANT
Submitted by timbo2410 on Mon, 2020-03-09 10:00Ok, so the wife and i decide to have a drive along Myalup beach North late yesterday arvo ... there were quite a few vehicles on the beach and some that had clearly been there for several days .. on the way back we found a campsite, that previously had people at, left abandoned with all the rubbish, tarps, burnt out weber BBQ, crab nets and ropes (all twisted and cut up), floats and crap all below the high tide mark and a huge blue plastic tarp (partly burnt and full of holes), left partly buried up in the sand dune. We gathered up what we could to take back off the beach to dump and then looked at the travel camera and identified the people responsible and low and behold got clear footage of the 2 vehicles involved. We got back to Myalup carpark, inflated the tyres and headed back to the highway. Just before getting there, 2 vehicles pulled out in front of us .. guess who .. the dirty, shameful, B*%"RDS that we had just cleaned up for ... I couldnt catch them before they turned left heading towards Mandurah (we turned right to head home), but the missus got a good photo of the pair along with rego ...
So to the young pair that did this .. why the F$&K would you leave the beach in such a way? Where the hell is your moral responsibility? Why the hell couldn't you clean up after yourselves? Why the hell come to a beach to despoil it for others? You can clearly afford to own a shiny silver Landcrusier with all the trimmings and a tray back with so many extras and 3 fridge/freezers in the back but where is your logic in the way you live and treat 4x4 areas ? We have your rego and video footage and will be passing it on to the local Ranger and whoever else wants to get in on the action of finding where you live and hopefuly prosecuting to the full extend of the law. It's people like you that are the ruin of everybodies enjoyment both for fishing, enjoying the outdoors and offroading. There is no place in society for the likes of you!
There .. I have had my rant .. now I will use my rubbish tip pass to get rid of your rubbish (shame on you)!

140 Vro johnson
Submitted by gav077 on Fri, 2020-03-06 07:01Just a quick one, what's everyone's thoughts on the old vro Johnson's ? My dad has one on the back of his pacemaker and we've had a few issues with it. Does anyone think they're worth fixing? I've been trying to get him to repower it for a while but he won't listen. It doesn't like traveling at 2200 revs, you feel it bog down and stall and then you have to restart it and give it some revs to get it going again. Is a 1988 motor.

Alvey reel brake material
Submitted by timbo2410 on Thu, 2020-03-05 12:00Hi all, well I have finally collected enough heavy rods to suit all my old Alveys along with a couple of Alveys that people didnt want to sell seperately to the rods. To that end, I have 1 Alvey reel that needs new rubber brake pads and springs (lever and ratchet) and the other needs new springs (lever and ratchet) and a complete drag set (metal washer replacement as well). It's suprising to see how much the Alvey has changed over the years. Mine were bought for me by my parents around 1978 .. they are fully stainless including the drag washers .. the newer ones that I have picked up have chromed drag washers that have already corroded (the reels in all fairnes are like new even though old). There is even a difference in the thickness of the stainless parts as well and the newer version has a much thinner spring wire (that has failed). I suppose it was the easiest way of saving dollars by reducung quality :-(
Anyway, I have gone off track .. does anybody know how totell the exact model number of the Alveys .. I have several Surf Champions with deep spools and a couple of newer but almost identical that have a different drag washer number? I would also like to know what the rubber washer is made of and if it can be sourced in a sheet to cut my own .. any info would be great
