Mandurah crabs
Submitted by meglodon on Mon, 2020-01-27 11:31I went for a walk in the shallows early this morning looking for a couple of crabs for lunch, not a sign of anything over 50mm and the water is that warm the crabs must be pre-boiled. The amount of boats on the estuary on Sunday was unbelievable you could have walked across the estuary on poly floats there was that many there. The crab population certainly took a hit and with the swan and Cockburn shut down it is no wonder
I just hope people are respectful of the size and amount limit and we can all have a great time on the estuary enjoying a day on the water.
Have a good one fellow boaties

Be Carefull Hillarys Floating Jetty
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Sun, 2020-01-26 08:46I pulled up to the jetty yesterday to grab the old man and noticed the plastic rub guard is missing. Got home and saw that the jetty has a sharp edge and did significant damage to my gunwhale rubber and I was bloody lucky it wasn't the gelcoat.
Going to head down now and take some pics and put in a claim through Clubmarine to take it up with the Transport Dept.

Thermolite flooring
Submitted by Silver Fox on Sat, 2020-01-25 07:20Hello all,
Just wondering if anyone has had any exposure to working with the Thermolite composite boards ? . I'm looking at putting a new rear deck on my Shark Cat and I'm interested in giving this stuff a go . Yes , it is a bun load more than marine ply . Yet it negates having to have wood in the boat and encapsulating ply with fibreglass and resin. The expense will be a little more ( yet less time ) and you're not having to go down the ply / glass road , guaranteed no rot too !

Weather tommorow
Submitted by Superfish on Fri, 2020-01-24 16:03Was all excited about a trip to Rotto tommorow looking at the Seabreeze BOM weather report. Sure enough the weather report has changed to 15 to 20 knots sourtherly. With all the modern day technoligy they still cant seem to get it right even 24 hours in advance. Just wondering if anyone is going over to the island tommorow and if your thoughts on the weather.
I have cancelled my trip as a last time we went to the three mile we got hammered with 20 to 25 knot southerlys that were not predicted and the the breeze didnt drop off as predicted. Anyone have a better and more reliable website than BOM Seabreeze?

Maxel reels
Submitted by Southside boati... on Thu, 2020-01-23 16:35We are now stocking a range of the Maxel Jigging Reels!
We are stocking all three series which covers from the small and light demersal sized reels all the way up to larger, stronger sizes for heavy jigging for fish like dogtooth tuna and other large deepwater species.
If you were in the market for a new jigging reel, we’d suggest looking at the Maxel range in-store now!

Pending Abrolhos trip questions
Submitted by Wilfish on Tue, 2020-01-21 13:49G'day guys,
I'm planning a trip to the Abolhis Islands weather permitting around the 28th of Feb for 3 or 4 days. I will be taking my missus and kids across on our 8m Trophy WA. We've camped plenty of times on the boat before so have that part covered. Kids are 14, 5 and 3.
We plan on departing Gero for the Wallabi Group and over the three days, traveling down to the Easter Group, then the Pelsaert Group before the return trip home. I carry 550L of fuel so that mileage shouldn't be an issue. We wish to mix it up with a bit of fishing, exploring the history and a bit of diving too.
I've just got a couple of questions for those guys that have been there before. I have the Dept of Fisheries listed moorings but I'd appreciate feedback on safe anchorages for overnight on each of the groups. Also, I know it can be quite shallow in areas and I'm wondering if it would be worth the trouble of bringing a small blow up tender for what it's worth. I wouldn't wish to tow it everywhere as I would like to do some trawling so just wondering if the hassle would be worth it to travel to islands to explore and stretch our legs or is access not so bad for boats of my size?
Lastly, what do you know about the pub on Pigeon Island? Give the locals some space or do they welcome visitors for an afternoon beer? Is it still open in the arvo's? Don't want to tread on anyone's toes.
If anyone else is heading over there around the same time and want to travel across together, let me know. If anyone has any other advice, I'd be keen to hear it. Cheers all.

Fishing the South
Submitted by redboss on Tue, 2020-01-21 07:29Hi All,
Long time reader, first time poster.
I been reading through the advice on fishing around Denmark area and some great info on this site. We are heading down to Ocean Beach Holiday Park towards the end of March, and i have been noting down some of the places i'd like to try for a fish. Ranging from Peacful Bay down to Albany. Im normally a boatie, but since im towing the camper trailer, will have to stick to beach and rock.
Will be targetting Salmon and would love to try for some bottom fish from the rocks.
I havent done rock or beach fishing in years, so would appreciate setup (Rod, reel, line and Rigging) ideas so i can prepare myself.
PS: Just out of interest, is there anywhere nearby to hire boats for the day?
Thanks,

Snyder surf rods
Submitted by timbo2410 on Mon, 2020-01-20 14:56Hi again and yes I am still on the hunt for Snyder rods to suit my Alveys. I had a generous chap who kindly gave me his old Alvey rod for free which was so generous and shows the amazing spirit between us fishos ..and saying that I have also been ripped off by a Perth City rod builder so that's an entirely different story (and am still getting to grips with it).
But anyway, I'm still on the hunt for several more genuine Snyderglas original alvey/low mount rods MT7144, MT8144 or MT9144 that people are either getting rid of or want to sell on the cheap .. I need another 3 in total as I have 4 Alvey 651 reels .. any help would be much appreciated.
I live in Bunbury in the SW of W.A. PM me if you can help please

Crack Esky
Submitted by Uluabuster on Mon, 2020-01-20 13:51G'day fellas,
I have 2 cracks on my esky's lid underside. The cracks are on either side of a wedge where the lid meets the rest of the body of the esky.
Does anyone know how to fix these cracks ?
Because the crack is along the edge of the lid where it gets pushed into the mouth of the esky, a bad fix will show itself pretty quickly.
Having the cracks will not result in leakage of any kind but will allow hot air getting into the supposedly air-tight lid, thus reducing the insulation properties of the lid of the esky.
Thanks

Samaki Vibelicious Lures
Submitted by C.P on Mon, 2020-01-20 13:13Has anyone used the vibelicious lures? They look good in the packet but lures can look good to fishermen and not look good to fish.
I was thinking of the small size for flathead off the beach. Ive had some success with ZX lures but always keen to try different things
Has anyone had any success?

Ningaloo Station- What's happening now?
Submitted by saltyseamen on Mon, 2020-01-20 12:44Hey guys,
Is anyone aware what is happening currently with Ningaloo Station now that Parks and Wildlife have taken over the lease?
Are you able to book camp sites through them or is it a 'first in best dressed' situation? Or is it just cancelled all together?
Any info would be handy.
Cheers.

2014 Saltiga Expedition 5500H spool on 2010 Saltiga 5000
Submitted by chevaps on Sat, 2020-01-18 15:34Hi all.
I'm looking at getting a spare spool for my 2010 Saltiga 5000, but it seems like for like replacements are not longer available. Regardless though, I have a stronger preference for the 2014 Expedition spool to gain extra line capacity.
I've been told the 2015 spools fit the 2010 reels, but i've received mixed comments on the Expedition spool fitting either 2010 or 2015 series of reels. Sources online suggest it's doable, but recently i've been told that the shaft on the Expedition reels is larger. I know the the regular Saltigas have a small extension on the shaft which prevents the swapping of drag knobs between reels, but i was under the impression the shafts were essentially the same.
Has anyone here installed an Expedition spool on a regular Saltiga? Or does anyone have both reels who can confirm if it's doable?
Thanks in advance.

Coral Bay land based guide
Submitted by SEAFORCE CORAL BAY on Fri, 2020-01-17 19:05We often get asked a lot about where to fish or where you can fish land based in Coral Bay. So have been meaning to do this for a while but have strugged to find the time to put it all together. I have setup this page to hopefully over time be a complete guide to fihing in Coral Bay (also by boat) but for now it's just a land based guide and a lot of good recources for fishing the area. For most Coral Bay regulars there is nothing new, it is more of a gude to get you started. Hope this helps some and will add to it over time.

Dunsborough / Busselton Mooring Use
Submitted by flexn on Wed, 2020-01-15 11:43Hi All,
I'm heading to Dunsborough over the Aus day long weekend and wanted to launch in Busselton (7.5m boat) and then leave the boat in the water. Does anyone have a mooring in Dunsborough (ideally) or if not busselton I can use/rent?
I called DPAW and was told they currently don't have any for hire in the area at this stage.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Cheers

The NEW Oceans Legacy Contact
Submitted by Southside boati... on Wed, 2020-01-15 09:09The NEW Oceans Legacy Contact “Long” jigs have just landed! The “Long” series include a slimmer profile which makes them superior in areas with stronger currents as well as making them a lot easier to fish with. These jigs are also centre weighted which gives them a more enhanced action on the sink, which is when a lot of the demersal fish will attack it.
They come in 4 weights; 130gm, 170gm, 210gm and 270gm and also a good range of colours.
These jigs have been thoroughly tested in local waters and have proved themself to be an outstanding product. Come through and check them out!
fishing wa programme
Submitted by squalis on Tue, 2020-01-14 23:12Hi i am chasing a copy of a fishing wa programme that Ryan Thipthorp did on crabbing in the swan river . Happy to borrow and return. If anyone remembers the series and episode number that would be a great help. I went on u tube and have searched the net but no joy. Have scoured ebay and gum tree but without any result. Happy to purchase. It was screened on channel 9 originally. BCF, Complete Angler and South side boating were unable to help. Extreme fishing Wangara used to sell them but they have gone out of business. I do have copies of other episodes . Mant thanks and hoping some kind person can help.
