All my my fishing will be from the shore as I have no boat

inside first reef Mindarie !! Berlyed and berlyed !! Nuthin no Gards
or herring !!!! Pulled up anchor and shifted closer to the reef !!
Started up berly trail still no gardies ?? Then had my float rig with
4lb Fluro for the gards got smashed !! Few minutes later up popped
a good skip !! So cut off da float rigs !! Tied a soft plastic jig head
and threaded up a coral prawn and she was on !! Dropped a heap
of fish more than we landed been a while since I had shallow water
sesh on em !! Poor mrs hookd up a few times but didn't land one in
the boat !! I showed why they we're pulling that hard they were

Submitted by sandbar on Wed, 2015-07-29 08:20G'day fellow fisho's,
I heading out this arvo and wondering wether the pinks are in or out of the sound.
I'm thinking of either drifting or anchoring (weather depending) outside the 5 or sitting inside the sound/s, warnyabro or cockburnt?
Any info would be great , thanks.

The Shredder, Ultimate Burley Machine - Burley Experiment
Submitted by Mick C on Tue, 2015-07-28 21:23With the Shredder now “firing on all cylinders” (http://fishwrecked.com/forum/shredder-ultimate-burley-machine) (http://fishwrecked.com/forum/shredder-mk-2), and the number of requests from FW Members for the burley it produces it is time to start to determine the appropriate recipe.
My observations are that the time the burley takes to dissolve in the water column varies considerably based upon the mix of fish flesh/frames to pellets/pollard, the number of times the burley is minced and the water content of the burley as it is used frozen – assuming tuna oil as a constant. If we are ultimately going to offer the burley commercially then the mix ratio has to be right. You want something that produces a steady stream of appropriately sized particles, but will last for a reasonable period of time.
As a scientist by training, with a High Distinction for Topics in Applies Statistics in my Honors year (I have never really admitted my geek like behavior from the 80’s), it was time to conduct an experiment. A multi factorial analysis of variance, with the dependent variable being the burley dissolution in sea water in grams per minute, seems like the go. Independent variables of mix ratio, mince events and water content is the starting point, which can be refined once the initial results are known. Replicates of 4 is appropriate but if you are to test for the dependent variable in “real life” conditions the actual trip with different wind, wave and current observations is likely to confound results – use this as a factor as well. Blah, blah, blah. My family and friend always sledge me for over analysing things!
Anyway, I spent the day making up 750g (measured accurately) bags of burley with 2 different mix ratios, 3 different mince techniques and 2 different water contents. 2 x 3 x 2 and 4 replicates = 48 bags of 750g mass each.

Yes, it was tedious but research and development is important. I can now go fishing with randomised 4 x 750g burley logs in the water at a time and see how they each behave, and this is the best part of the whole deal. I know my burley works but the experiment is to evaluate what should actually be made in the future considering all of the factors.
I still aim to have the Shore Catch burley available for purchase, in various forms (1kg, 2kg, 5kg), by the end of the year and this is all part of the process. I look forward to reporting on results of the experiment.

Bend in the rod Action shots
Submitted by crasny1 on Tue, 2015-07-28 08:21Hi all
Now we all like to see shots of fish landed. But I dont know if I am the only one on here but probably have seen more shots of fish caught.
What I do like is the true action shots but strain on the face and a true bend in the rod showing battle. Not a avid Phorographer but when I take shots its usually of the battle.
Oh and then the dispair off loosing a decent fish. In this case it was my ever chased Spining whaler that I was targetting as a "sports" fish. Unfortunately no action shots off the jumps but this resisdent shark on a particular reef had me determined to at least capture it boat side. never happened though!!!
Lets see some more action and dispair shot because it makes more fun.

Newbie Help with an old girl
Submitted by Hazzadazzlaa on Mon, 2015-07-27 20:59Hi everyone,
Harry here long time reader first time poster. I recently bought and old quintrex tinnie breezeabout and loving it. Obviously would love to have a bigger boat funds permitting but i have loved every minute of it. So i started out on the river and to my disbelief actually got onto some good crabs which was great and certainly beats fighting out on the local swan river jetties to get a spot. I have also nailed the squid. Then i moved out into the ocean and yes i have all the safety gear etc. So far i've hit wedge, cockburn, busselton and 3 mile out of hillarys. But i suck at catching fish, on friday i bought navionics and over the weekend fished near mews rock and around carnac and near garden island. I caught heaps of undersized flathead, lots of small whiting, too many wrasse to count and i m pretty sured i missed a snapper considering a big bite and the head of the scaly gone.
1 Are the sonar/contour lines on navionics a good indicator of where i should fish? eg looks like a mountain under water should i fish there? is that the so called structure everyone talks about and what i should be looking for?
2 Is it normal as a boat owner of approx 4 months to be scared everytime i venture past 4 nautical miles? 4.2 meter runabout maybe 4m
3 I have noticed a lot of rocks and reefs aren't plotted on navionics, is that normal? (as a surfer my eyes are always peeled for that perfect wave)
I guess i would just like to get as much knowledge from the Fishwrecked community on how i can one day succesfully catch snapper and dhuies without having to go too far out. I trust the old Quinnie and feel very safe in her. I check swell periods, swell heights and all forecasts and definately pick my days.
But i want to start posting pics of nice fish i have caught on this great website! So any help will be greatly appreciated.
Ps i jagged a pinky (85cm) trawling just south of north mole using a halco laser pro about 2 months ago.
Thank You Harry

Galv hot dip gero? Exmouth?
Submitted by black gen on Mon, 2015-07-27 08:00I am wanting to service my trailer as its seen better days
however my problem is that I'm in carnarvon and I'm almost certain there is no where to get my trailer dipped in galv here in town.
im planning to push my boat off onto tyres in the coming week or so and wondering if there is anywhere in gero or exmouth I can get my trailer galv'd after it's been sandblasted.
will be a pain towing the trailer but unfortunately don't have much other option
unless anyone has any other ideas for rust protection after it has been sandblasted
thanks for any help

can i cut my boat frame?
Submitted by boonmack on Sun, 2015-07-26 13:53Hi i need some advice.
I have got my hands on an underfloor fuel tank i want it to go in my 4.8m stacer aluminuim.
the only problem is to get it to fit i would have to cut a slot out of one of the horizontal frames in the middle of the boat to slide it in as they're 300mm apart.
i was thinking i may be able to cut a section of the bottom out and sit the tank in so it crosees over one and a half frame pieces.
would re strengthen with some supports between the frames either side afterwards.
Wondering if this is a massive no no or will it be ok
Ive done a crude drawing to explain it.
any advice would be appreciated as I can't find much info elsewhere.

Tassie tragedy
Submitted by meglodon on Sat, 2015-07-25 23:09Deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the diver taken by reportedly great white shark in Tassie today.
The 7 news report said that the man was taken in front of his daughter, one can not imagine a worse situation. No doubt it will take a long time for her to recover from such an experience, if ever.
The way the story was reported I am lead to believe that a large GW had been seen in the area a day before the attack and the area is not noted as a hangout for sharks, this leads me to ask the bloody obvious question.
Was the sighting of the shark made widely known, was the beach closed. In an eastern states paper there was a report that a person had also had a close experience with a large shark in the near area.
It will be interesting to see when all the facts come out if these prior experiences with a large shark where widely made know so that people going into the water after scallops had information which could have made them think twice.
It appears to me that people who use the ocean a lot are not taking any responsibility for making it known to authorities or the general public via the media that they have seen one of the oceans apex predators in the area where they are swimming etc.
A quick phone call to the local tv or radio station along the lines of there is a bloody great big shark in such and such area could save a life,
who knows it could be one of your mates.

New steering system needed
Submitted by C.P on Sat, 2015-07-25 15:43The steering on my boat has been on the way out for a while. Now at the point where im nervous about using the boat, so ive decided that I need to get it replaced.
In the next year or two I'm planing to get a new outboard also. Curently have a 40 HP 2 stroke Mercury, Thinking about a 40 HP 4 stoke - maybe Suzuki. I was planning to do both at the same time but as ive said the steering now cant wait.
Im not very Mechanically minded. Is there any thing that i need to bare in mind now with the new steering?
ie Will a new steeing system that suits the current motor, likely be fine with the new motor?

North West Blowies
Submitted by Ericl on Sat, 2015-07-25 08:48Hi
Went out from Ocean Reef yesterday and fished on top of the bank about 22 NM offshore. Lots of good soundings but most hook ups ended up as being bitten off - presumably by NW blowies !
Ended up losing about a dozen or so hooks bitten off and only 1 blackass and 1 baldie for the days efforts. We found the day very slow despite fishing areas that had been very productive before. Anyone else have a NW Blowie problem or experience very slow action yesterday

Submitted by Moking on Fri, 2015-07-24 17:43Geez- I wish I had the camera this afternoon, maybe someone else on here was down there as well and got some pic's.
The dolphins were herding the salmon up- in close. Huge school, the water looked like a white wash with all the thrashing going on.
And I thought the salmon had moved on from the metro area, until I saw this.

Deep shit in Dongara
Submitted by CURT on Thu, 2015-07-23 19:15G'day guys,
me and afew mates have decided to pretty much wing it and tow the boat to dongara. Got here around 2 thsarvo and shot out about 3nm, about 15 mtrs of water pretty much where the dirty water goes clear. The whole coastline is filthy presumably from the swell. We had just one really good lost hookup in under 2hrs today and struggled to find much ground at all. With 3 odd days to go here we are in a bit of strive and desperate need of some info haha. Don't want co- ords just a rough idea of how far out we should try, heard the 50mtr mark was good but honestly we don't ask for a whole lot fish wise. Afew keepers and we will be stoked.
Cheers lads!
