Salmon (again)
Submitted by lachieH on Thu, 2015-04-02 20:34hi everyone. I know this post is just a replica of my other ine pretty much, but dad finally told me that he would only go 2 hours max (no arguing he reckons) for the salmon on a day trip, because we aren't going on a holiday and we don't have any camping gear. So I think the furthest we could get to is Busselton but maybe a bit further. Over these holidays is the time that we want to go, so it would be great to know a good beach that doesn't need a 4x4 to get down there. Just flicking lures and will have a few baits incase.
Oh dad just said Margaret river is the furthest he will go.
thanks any help is great! I am monitoring the lure posts aswell.
and I have just come home from a school camp at Wellington dam and the collie river. Annoying other campers at honeymoon pool and potters gorge, sorry for that lol. Didn't see any fishos which was surprising, looks great for fishing, but no rod and mates that aren't fishermen, no fishing for me!

Offshore - Squid vs Occy
Submitted by crasny1 on Thu, 2015-04-02 14:08Hi all
Just wondering regarding this question. Been up north and I mainly fish artificial now, but the decky/boss/Mrs likes bait. Always rig a Paternoster with a Mulie on top, and up north squid below. Occy up there was almost a waste off time. But down here not so sure anymore.
The Mulie on top is a must IMO as it almst acts as berley when the pickers attack it for the bottom hook.
Just wondering what the thought are between squid (I personally prefer this) vs Occy.
And also whether it is best to leave the suckers on, or skin them off (which is what I have done in the past).
A long term fisho can still learn new tricks!!!!

8 'Rod to match Stradic 5000
Submitted by arcanum on Wed, 2015-04-01 22:48Wonder if anyone can help me find a rod to match the Stradic 5000 I got a while back spooled with 30lb Sunline.
I’m land based at the moment and would like a rod that can flick lures up to 40g targeting taylor and salmon. My Dad has a 9’ Starlo Classix which I don’t mind but I think a little bit long for sustained use. I picked an 8’ Team Diawa rod the other day and quite like the feel and lightness – however it was only rated to 25g which seemed a bit light. Also looked at an 8’ Penn Prevail but the butt section seemed a bit long and I didn’t like the bare heat-shrink in place of a cork or eva grip. Any suggestions? Budget is around $150, absolute max $200.

Squid on soft plastics
Submitted by Bing on Wed, 2015-04-01 10:33Went out for landbased flick in Saftey Bay yesterday morning and was surprised to land a nice sized squid with a soft plastic. Is this common?? Anyone else caught a squid without a jig or prong?
I was followed in again before changing to a jig and getting another 2.
Also took home a few herring for the BBQ and let a heap go. Halco twistie did most of the damage.
What size do people consider a herring to a "bull herring"?? Biggest went 25.5cm and smallest 23cm. All seem to be around that same size.

Rotto Weekender
Submitted by MarkTheShark on Tue, 2015-03-31 12:07I am planning on heading over to Rotto for the long weekend on a trailer boat. I was just wondering what people do with their trailer for a couple of nights while away. I'm based around Freo and have heard reports about a lot of theft and woodman pt. Im also not sure on the maximum stay at the East Freo ramp and how safe it would be to leave a trailer with a vehicle. Are there any tricks to keeping your trailer locked to your car to prevent theft?

Fishing line
Submitted by Scott Prak on Sun, 2015-03-29 22:51Please forgive if wrong section, or anything wrong with post. First time posting.
Anyways, wanted some knowledge on fishing line. I'm after specifically pink/fluro pink/hot pink braided line. Prefer 8lb but in can not find can swing with 6 or 10lb in 300m. Where am I able to get a hold of some locally or online. And quality matters, so nothing to thick or just crap.
Thanks

Beach Fishing - Tailor
Submitted by Bing on Sun, 2015-03-29 10:34Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has had any luck with catching a few tailor recently between rockingham and mandurah??
I've fished south side of long point twice (sunrise and sunset), golden bay at first light, madorah bay at first light and have had no luck.
Ive been fishing with an unweighted Mullie on a 4/0 set of gangs.
Plenty of herring and whiting around (also tried these on the gangs) but same result.
if anyone has any tips or pointers in this it would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Glen
