So Oceanside no longer stock JM gear, is there anywhere else in Perth that stocks their gear?

With the weather pattern still being “crap”, I have had to resort to quick trips out when the strong easterly starts to die before the strong south westerly comes in.  This means that you can’t fish the optimum times but at least you get out there for a few hours in the middle of the day.  Luckily, the “better half” is keen, and after school drop off it gives us the chance to spend some time together on the water.

Today was one of those days.  Headed out about 9am and went south from Hillarys hugging the coastline in the lee of the easterly.  Once we got to Scarborough we could head due west with the wind at our back to a little lump in 20+ m of water.  It was still a bit windy when we got there, but not too bad.  Minn Kota in, burley out and off we go with a fairly limited timeframe given the strong wind warning for the afternoon.  Also, as we were setting up I noticed a banana peel on the boat – WTF, and my ranting session about this practice put a little dampener on the tranquility.

Great little session though with non-stop action.  We ended up with a good sized harlequin, a couple of sambos >5kg, 4 undersized pinkies, an undersized dhu, an undersized mulla, undersized breaksea, some skippy, a massive sergeant baker, plenty of wrasse & parrot and a mongrel eel.  I think Jill’s banana curse was the fact that the sambos I got on my light gear headed straight for her line and tangled, or cut it off.

Needless to say it only the harlequin that came home, will all others successfully released.  How good is it when you can go out metro nearshore for an hour or two and catch 20+ fish in the middle of the day!

 Hi all heading down to busselton for a fish Friday to Sunday over Easter any members want to cath up for a beer. Am taking my boat 5.5 surtees possibly have a spot sat or Sunday morning., on another note does anyone know if their is any safe storage boat  facilities there.

This is an overhead spiral wrapped Black Hole Cape Cod special 250g.

Fuji alconites apart from the tip which is an ICMNST (Ion coated stainless with Fuji SIC ring) Alps reel seat with some added metal bling plus a Fuji rubber gimbal and it has come up a treat.

I did the pattern and my brother built virtually the rest. As usual he nailed it perfectly.

Can't wait to see it in action.

Just wondering if the Bunbury beaches are producing much at the moment last week in the newspaper in the fishing report section it said there was a salmon school that went threw witch surprised me a bit. And has the Bunbury shipping channel produced any mulloway yet.

Very difficult day yesterday on the estuary (southern end) popping for Yellowfin Whiting, doughnuts for 6hrs fishing across the high tide period. Wind was 16knts or so gusting to 20+ at times, but we have caught fish in those conditions before, on this occasion though, not only didn't we raise a scale, we didn't even sight a whiting. Normally you will see them scuttling along under or behind a lure even if they aren't biting or overly interested, or if you are quiet enough,you will see them mooching around in the next sand patch across, or even at your feet. Yesterday, nothing. Obviously it's getting late in the season, and the water is cooling down, but we got 30+ fish on Friday afternoon (all released), when conditions weren't vastly different temp wise. What I'm getting to, is that yesterday, the High tide should have been around 11am (best guess using known tide times on the coast north and south of our spot and halving it), at a height of 0.9m, then a low just before 6pm of 0.5m. Normally on a 0.9m tide, the flats are full of water, and I have several landmarks on the shore which indicate a normal high tide mark at that height. yesterday, at what should have been the top of the tide, the high mark was nowhere near the markers on shore, and (obviously!) the depth at the area I fish was nowhere near what it usually is on a 0.9m tide. Why didn't the flats fill with water yesterday? Does the wind have some sort of an influence? I recall reading another post describing the concept of "surge" in the estuary. Was yesterday the opposite effect? Would love to hear peoples theories (if not actual factual knowledge!) as to what occurred. Whatever was the cause, no water came up and as a result, the whiting didn't come out over the flats. So in summary, can somebody please explain how the tides and "surge" effect work in the Peel Estuary? Cheers!

 Anyone recently been on the track to hamelins. Last time I was on it in 2013 it was pretty washed out and beach was really soft.

Good Morning all,

i will be travelling the Gibb River Road with my wife and two boys in June, provided I don't burst with excitement in the lead up.

Living in Exmouth the boys have had a few scuffles with Mangrove Jack but I really want them to brawl with a Barra as part of this adventure.

Would love some advice from any crew that have been there done that. We have a tinny and a camper so a short camping  trip from the road is okay.

 living close to Warnbro sound it's always been expected to get. Few decent feeds of crabs over the summer.  This year I worked harder than ever, snorkelled, drop netted and scooped for very few crabs.  I limited myself somewhat as I don't take females even if they are size.  

Bent street jetty and the duck pond got hammered, There was plenty of undersized crabs taken off the jetty and my belief is the same thing was occurring in the duck pond.

Regardless of the above there just didn't seem to be the amount of crabs around.  Does anyone have any thoughts on this, maybe I was just unlucky..........

 I fish and dive  28 to 35m out of Bunbury and this year we have been seeing and carching huge numbers of babies.Some of them are tiny.Last week we would have caught 20 or more before we got our 2 size ones.

Is it the same in Mandurah and perth.Hope its not because we have caught all the big ones.

Had a Goldstar 5.8m for the past 3 years and finally decided it was time to upgrade. Spent a lot of time going through many brands and designs. Probably spent too much time on it because I started to go around in circles.
Decided on the Northbank 750HT and all I can say is what a great ride, should have gone fibreglass long ago.

 Well I was riding my vintage motorcycle with my dog on the highway trying to clear my head thinking am I indigenous all of a sudden my dog fell off the back broke three legs but managed to jump back on then the police pulled me over to search the bike, next thing I know they put a yellow sticker on it for not having a full tank of fuel.

asked me where I was going and said I'm heading north the police officer then replied mate you need a compass your heading south.

So I turned around to the right direction and popped a wheelie in 5th gear heading towards rio Tinto when arriving at rio they asked me if I would help out in the kitchen I declined and said to them I am employed as a wheelie king not a kitchen hand so the union got involved and I am now retired with my dog bike and compass.

Just a heads up if you want to stock up on terminal tackle Hills Mako Tackle in Midland are having a closeing down sale went out there today and it was pretty busy bought a bit of gear they have some decent skirts and jigs going dirt cheap as well as sinkers,gaffs,hooks ect ect ect pity that they are closing down another WA business gone

 I've got a few pushers of various sizes that are much the worse for wear, after various toothy attacks. I have obtained replacement skirts, but what do you use for adhesive? Super glue? I don't have any on hand to try it. All input appreciated.

I've got a Nissan Curtis Egi rod that also doubles as a lure casting rod but I've been having an issue where the braid has been snapping. The braid is Varivas Avani PE 0.8 (16lb) and I've been snapping it using 1oz Richter Plugs (I know I should be only using 5/8oz at most).

I've checked the guides with some stocking and a sharp knife and couldn't find any damage but the braid really should not snap like that so would it be worth taking it to a rod repairer for a closer look?

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Went out for a deep drop yesterday or as I have heard some call this the  dark art of fishing. Anywway Reece invited me out with his good mate Kyle and we headed out past Rotto for a fish. First we set  up the outriggers to try and tease up a Marlin until the easterly died down as she was a tad lumpy lol. No luck with that so we headed for our first drop, the sounder was lit up and I was a little nervous with apprenhension as my line sailed down into 350m of darkness. I was introduced the little gremlin greeneyes and Reece told me how one of the bloody things paralysed him with it's spike one time so they were dispatched without even coming on board.

 We tried a couple more spots to no avail and as you know when time starts to fleet with nothing in the icebox frustration sets in. Over to the next spot and Reece says "I was tricking before this is the spot"  ha ha  he wasn't tricking, soon as Kyle's hit the bottom he was on. As soon as mine hit the bottom and a couple of deep bites I was on and We could tell it was a beast. So Reece says to just power it up and I'm looking at the reel and gear creaking and groaning and shitting myself as I knew I had one of those fish of a lifetime on. A few mins later Up pops Kyles Blue eye of around 12-15kgs And I'm thinking Jesus,  a few mins later and out wide of the boat up pops my Trevella we reckoned was around 22-25kg. A lot of high fives and beers later we pulled up another smaller Trevella and called it a day.

I would put Reece down as one Bloody knowledgeable skipper and knows his shit on the sounder, bloody obsessed like me lol.Good blokes to go fishing with,  It's a long haul but well worth it  IMO the beers and fresh bbq chops made it a bit easier. Those Prince Harry's go down alright eh Reece  Thanks again mate for a  top day!

 anyone know any good spots near perth (less populated), tried freo other day just off northmole but seems to be alot of seaweed 

 So today i went up river from ascot past that town... Really old one with parks right on river ?? (forget name G. Something..) anyways this idiot had a net out under idea he could catch lots of bream or something i assume. I got his tag an rang fisheries but i guess he must have saw me pick up phone as i walked along bank...an he left 5 min later.

I swear it must be me that attrcts all the wierdos :)

 I am hoping i see him again this weekend when i go up swan vally for lunch an a fish...

 So now I'm a trailer boater and can move around more freely, where can I fish my 6.4m glass boat without getting swept away by the predicted southerlies this weekend? I haven't fished the cockburn sound before, can you get protection from garden island when the wind is up? Where would be the easiest place to launch solo?

Hi All

I have to spend a few days in Perth next weekend and will be staying out at the Coogee Holiday Park.

I have never fished perth so have no idea where to go there. Is it worth bringing a light setup with some squid jigs and twisties at the moment. Any decent places close to Coogee for a bit of fun on Tailor and Squid?
