Fishing Overseas (BangkokThailand)

With a couple days to kill in Bangkok.
Decided to go on one of the charters offered my "Fishing Thailand Charters"
The service was very proffesional and designed for westerners.
The cost for a full day was 260$ AUD this was inclusive of lunch, transfer to and from hotel and a full days fishing which was 8am to 5pm possibly even longer if you can handle it.

The day started with being picked up from hotel and driven to lake approximately 1 hour from bangkok city.

Once at the lake I was met with my guide, very fishing smart, not the most social individual.
There is an option without a guide for reduced cost, strongly recommened guide for the fishing smarts with the amount of structure you have to navigate around to stop these beasts its priceless.

The guide than takes you to a bali style bungalow with fan very nice setup.

The gear is good/adequate shimano baitrunners with 15-20kg custom rods. The rig is unique: a float/berley cage with about a 1 meter leader to a size 2/0 super strong baitholder hook. The berley cage has a ball of pollard the size of 3 fists and the hook has some bug the guide had in his bucket.

The guide will cast and bait up for you if you dont want to but I chose to do this myself.

After about half an hour of fishing I was on! First fish of the day was 20kg mekong catchfish(average size), over the day I proceeded to catch 18 mekong catfish smallest being 7kg and the largest being 35kg it was save to say my arms were stuffed and with no gimble belt my groin was F***ing sore.

I lost around 5-6 through snags and breaks my guide made a call on one of the hook ups i lost being a fish upwards of 60kg,the guide had a unique ability to make a call how big the fish was and where it was hooked real early in the fight.

The guys in the bungalow next to us landed a 70kg!! monster, and what a team effort that was too land, amazing to watch.

Ther was also free jumping carp monsterous 30-40kg didnt get stuck into any as they rare on line (They will be in trouble once Kingfisha can score a trip to thailand!!)

Even though some people carry on its cheating and boring as you can see the fish jumping and splashing as its a stocked impoundment, i thorougly recommend to people keen for a big fishing workout session.

The bender weekend in Thailand was good too :P

Soaking pots question

Do timber cray pots need a day or so soaking before they catch well every time they have been out of the water and dried out? Or is this just more for new pots?

cheers

Putting together a Sambo jigging trip with Saltwater - 5th of December, the lead-up to the full moon which is THE day for it.

Hey guys,

With the leadup to the full moon i'm putting together a trip out with saltwater charters on december 5th (friday). The 5th is THE day for jigging sambo's and aj's as they fire up hard before the full moon. Craigs boat leaves from Hillarys Marina at 6am on the 5th and gets back roughly around 3pm. Breakfast, lunch, drinks and snacks all included. The cost per person is $250.

Send me a pm if you are keen!

Cheers Josh

No Crabbing in Cockburn Sound- December 2015.

Looks like I won't be able to go Crabbing until next year.

Going to have to drive to Mandurah, and that's going to get a hammering.

Warren river

hi everyone. I have been invited on a camping trip before Christmas in December, up to Yeagerup beach. We will be fishing for most of everyday, and are hoping that a late school of salmon swim past. They usually get some on bait. Also they get tailor and sharks and herring and some whiting. But the thing that I really want to know about and probably my favourite part of the trip is fishing the Warren River on my kayak for bream. I'm thinking lures and bait?

anyway how far up River are the big bream? We will be spending the whole day there so that means we could go fairly far up River. Is the warren River good for black bream, and is there pb bream up there?

also I want to know if you can drop crab nets for blue manna crabs?

Molloy Island - Jan 2015 help?

 Hi team,

read up on a lot of old posts, regarding Molloy Island.

couldnt find much recent info, however was chasing some info regarding whether many parties have had much luck recently doing some land based fishing, whether it be for black brim or any Kg whiting.

happy to try hardbody or poppers or zman, even bait.

Don't have a lot of time there so any recommendations on the island is much appreciated, location time etc.

staying on the island side, so all help welcome.

thanks in advance to those that can guide.

Regards

Luke

Harvesting mussels from a dinghy

 Hi guys

Has anyone tried harvesting mussels from a dinghy on the Swan? If so, what tools did you use to make the task easier?

Thanks

Carp

has anybody seen carp in bluegum lake or  booragoon lake before? Those 2 lakes look fishy. If anybody knows a place near leaming that holds carp or any freshwater species, please tell me because I might be able to ride down there and have a go during the summer holidays. I'm already planning a trip through canningvale lakes to find which ones hold fish and which ones don't using my polarized sunnies.

recipes for crays

have been enjoying some crays, just boiled in sea water with salad, yumo, time to try other dishes anyone got some nice recipes with noodles or similar, how do you like your crays done

Underwater camera

hello has anyone tried one of these under professional fish finder fishing camera? And if so how was it cheers.

where have all the skippy gone?

Growing up with small ally boats we always hunted the usual bread and butter fish : whiting, herring and while its obviously not as good as those wonderful regulation free days you can still pick them up fairly easily.

Not so ive found with my favourite... the lovely fighting skippy! Pound for pound surely one of the best catching fish in the sea and beatiful fresh caught to eat.

It seems they are just not around these days and if so only in very small numbers. Does everyone else find this or is there something im doing wrong?

I just burley up for 20 mins in broken ground looking for nice green holes but with some cover nearby for the timid fellas.

Suicide hooks have always done the trick even though their soft lips mean a few misses. Whitebait always worked if u can get some fresh stuff that doesnt break up when it hits the water.

Id be interested in people's own experience and also if they are able to be jigged.

Cheers

Second great white shark caught at Bondi Beach, Sydney, this week

Trailer Hub Heat Question

After losing a wheel in my driveway after travelling all the way to Waroona and back (guy I bought it from assured me he recently did the bearing) I decided to get serious and replace all the running gear on my trailer and replaced axle, hubs, springs, bearings and have put on bearing buddies.

I packed the bearings full of heavy duty, waterproof grease and put about 5mm around the inside of the hub and about 3-5mm on the axle. I tightened and loosened the castle nut about 5 times while spinning the wheel and then did it up 'nut tight' and backed it off a notch and put in the split pin put on the BB and pumped them with grease. The wheels spin freely and have the tiniest bit of play in them when I shake them back and forward. I've ended up using about half a tube of grease in the two hubs.

Anyhow... I took my 3m plastic dinghy out for the first trip since repairing everything and stopped a few times just to check everything and the hubs both felt warm after driving along the freeway. Not the kind of heat like when you've left your spanner in the sun and have to drop it and I could hold my hand on them without having to take it away and they were both the same temperature on a cool morning. It was more like the warmth you would have in one of those heat pillows for your neck/back.

Is this normal or should the hubs be running cool?

Freezing crays

 Hey guys.

Nice lil sesh with the daughter

Had a nice 2 hour sesh with the daughter yesterday.

Couple of small bream, 1 x tarwhine, 1 x crab, a trumpeter, a tailor a herring a small mulloway, got bitten off by a larger tailor that jumped right in front of us and had me calling it for a salmon and got blown away on the light gear by something that was humping it.

We let everything go and left them biting because it started getting too dark for the girl.

No pics, but we have planned a reconnisence mission this arvo so will hopefully get some then.
