Whos Going Fishing Tonight???
Submitted by Lockie on Fri, 2011-03-25 11:26Hey Guys,
I was just wondering what peoples plans were tonight.
I wanted to know if any fellow fishwrecked members were going to take advantage of the beautiful night we have coming for us tonight. I am planning on taking the young fella land basedsouth metro to try and get him to experience a big run whether its a ray, shark, mulla what eva just want him to experience some big fish action.
any members thinking of heading out south metro tonight let me know as we would love to meet some fellow fishwrecked members. I am not too sure as yet to where the young fella and i are going to go. We wanted to go to E-Shed or Ammo jetty but i think its going to be super packed.
Well tight lines all and good luck to all fishos who go out tonight.
Cheers Guys Dave

State Environment Minister Bill Marmion.
Submitted by Howard George on Thu, 2011-03-24 14:58Today Bill Marmion the State Environment Minister has announced that he has dusted off the plans and it is under consideration for a series of Marine Parks from Busselton to Augusta.
Recfish West are complaining that they haven't had any input into the proposal and the recfishers on the South coast instead of targeting the Greenie Groups are complaining about commercial fishers. If Marine Parks are put in place and I've said it before you can expect to see your fish stocks depleted even further regardless of what Jessica Meeuwig says because the competition between Recfishers and the Commercial guys will intensify for the remaining stock.
Jessica Meeuwig's knowledge of the habits of the Iconic Dhufish in this region is extremely limited and having fished for the species for over 50 years I believe it may well spell the end for that species. My reason is that I believe Dhufish do not grow up in that region but they get transported on the Capes to Capes current from an area south of Augusta and we all know the big bucks start showing up in September onwards in this area. The big eyes the Dhufish have would give an indication that they inhabit deep waters before entering the capes region for spawning.
Both the Recreational sector and the Commercial sector need to get their heads together and pool their knowledge of the area to make the Environment Minister aware of the hazards of relying on information from a person who is paid to have an opinion with very little local knowledge. Please feel free to voice your concerns.

Trolling Rigs
Submitted by Happydaze on Thu, 2011-03-24 14:07
Gday people
was in town the other day picking up some supplies at the local tackle shop , I was chasing some swivels and snaps for some trolling riggs as well as chasing some bits and peices to make up some teasers. Anyway got talking to the bloke behind the counter and the topic got going on trolling rigs and the like. Now Ive never strayed to far from the conventional set up mainly, lure / bait to crimped mono leader ,of around 1 to 2 meters attched via snap swivel and a wind on leader, I mainly fish around 10 to 15kg while trolling occassionally go to 24kg leaders would hardly get behond 200lb with the mainstay 100 to 120lb in short fairly light.
The bloke behind the counter mentioned a couple of things in conversation that interested me and was a little outside my way of thinking, first was he used teaser birds on his trolling rigs ie actual in line with the bait lure you are trolling he ran them between the wind on and leader, anyone out there ever do that at all? Be interested to here anything about it, Ive allways used them in daisy chains/teaser set ups.
The second thing we were talking about was the speed of trolling by way of eliminating by catch ( in short stopping mackies from wrecking lures baits ) for sails I would troll depending on the day 3 to 7knots but as a result would have a few dramas with mackies, the advice was to pick the troll up to around 10 or 12knts this would elimnate by catch but still be good for the more exotic species tuna, doly, marlin, sails, and wahoo any thoughts out there?
few links here from the black bart guys chasing wahoo in the Carribean old vids and probably seen before but I found them interesting in the use of extremly heavy gear, wire and lead weights in trolling. trolling speed at a guess would be 10 to 15 nts hope the lins work

E shed markets
Submitted by Jas04 on Thu, 2011-03-24 13:12Hey i was just wondering how packed does it get on a sunday night, i want to give it a go but dont want to be shoulder to shoulder also curious what rigs you use and the bait everyone has been using just curious. do most people use a boat rod and put it close to the pylons or use a egg beater and cast out as far as you can?
I seem to be doing something wrong but tryng to pin point what it is i have read every book and article ever writen about the mullas but still on th 0 mark after thousands of hours and thousands of spots. So i thought i would pick all your brains
i also understand if you dont want to tell me as fishing secrets are important lol

Almost ready to roll
Submitted by Bodie on Thu, 2011-03-24 10:00Well been a big build up for the yearly trip north.
As some of you know, we are spending 9 days at port gregory, then heading up to exy for the Fishwrecked comp spending 9 days up there too!
Port gregory we have 10 people - 2 boats, Exmouth 9 people 2 boats (mine and a 9m protector)
To say we are taking enough gear is an understatement!! worked out last night Scano, myself and a cousin or mine are taking 28 rods between the 3 of us, let alone anyone else!
Seems every 2nd day is another visit to the tackle store, im sure we have 250 lures, and 100 packs or plastics! We think it would have been cheaper for all of us to go to europe for 2 weeks!!!
Leaving frist thing Saturday, with the weather looking pretty good for Sunday, possibly to make it to abrohlos islands, but monday tuesday wednesday looking nice n windy!
Did get a quick report from someone who came back from port gregory 2 weeks ago, saying the water temp was a staggering 29 degrees!! and said they were bait casting mulies for mackies in some parts of the reef system. Tailor up around 5 kilos all too common, and some honker pinkys!!! Definitley enought o get my blood pumping!
Will put up a few photos along the way as well as try get one showing all the fishing gear we are taking, it really is rediculous!
See quite a few of you up in Exmouth, we arrive on the 3rd!
Cheers

Squid sizes lately
Submitted by Goodz on Wed, 2011-03-23 20:02The last few weekends I've done a bit of squiding around GI and we've been getting into them but they're all small to medium sized, not one big one to be found. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed the sizes to be small at the moment and any theories on how the squid size varies now and then.
Do the squid give birth during a certain time of the year or just whenever? Seems like there may have been a big birthing a month or 2 ago with all these small ones being around now. Anyone know a lot about the humble squid's life cycle?

What do you do in Fiji when....
Submitted by JohnF on Wed, 2011-03-23 09:051. You have fished all day long, casting poppers and stickbaits endlessly at big GT's, and finally get back to a 5 star resort on the beach which has a lovely little bar with cold beer........
...thinking, thinking, thinking....a beer sounds good, but I think we have a better plan.......
...grab your PE3 jigging gear, sling the local guy in his local banana boat $50 and go fishing of coarse....Wungu the Legend...........
Happy days.........
All fish donated to the local village.
2. When you are heading home after an awsome week of fishing, have been dropped off at the airport at Kadavu (right on the beach), checked your bags and all the gear in to the airport guys, and you hear the plane has been delayed for 3 hours............
.......but you realise the boat we have been fishing on all week, that dropped us off at the airport, has not left yet...
......grab your PE3 jigging gear back off the airport guys, sling the skipper $50 and go fishing of coarse.....
The airport guys were so amused, they decided to bail work and come along....
Miss that place...................

cheap 10ft+ rod with 150-200g casting weight
Submitted by humb on Tue, 2011-03-22 21:51Hi, does anyone know of a cheap 10ft+ rod (preferably 11 or 12ft) rod that has a casting weight of 150-200g or are they all mega pricey?
I want to be able to throw a size 3 or 4 star sinker out with a live herring/tailor and really be able to put some power behind the cast.
I currently have a 10ft 100g rod and is way too "flexy", it feels like I might snap the tip so I'm using a smaller sinker and just looping the bait out there and it only goes 30m or so.
Thanks.
