reel handle pgrade wanted

well after one outing the handle on the finnor offshore 6500 is stuffed.
it was wobbling so bad it gave me a blister, when i took it apart i found the plastic (yes plastic not brass etc)sleeve between handle and spindle has snapped.
apparently the only fix is to get a local engineering shop to make a new handle
I have sent a letter to both finnor and jw to let them know of the issue but im not holding my breath for any reply.

question is,,,does anyone know who can fabricate or modify a handle to fit the reel, apart from the handle it seems like a decent bit of kit

cheers

Crabs - Catch Care and Cooking?

With everyone posting reports of good hauls of Blueys at the moment, I thought I'd ask everyone what they do with the crabs as they're catching them?  I grew up catching crabs with my old man and grandad and we just use to throw them in a tub filled with sea water and then a wet hessian sack thrown on top.  They would always fight, ripping legs and claws off eachother.  I remember we always use to make sure they were all dead before we cooked them (apparently to stop anymore legs dropping off).

About 1 or 2 (I have a shocking memory) years ago I decided to start putting the crabs into an ice slurry as we caught them and haven't looked back.  They stay more fresh, they are almost instantly stunned so it's a lot easier to handle them and count them up to make sure you don't go over your limit and they don't/can't fight eachother and they never drop any legs or claws when you're cooking them.  My Dad went out crabbing with his mates over the Xmas break and there wasn't anywhere near enough ice in the esky and sure enough, when they got home, legs and claws were ripped off, most of them were still alive and when they cooked them, more legs dropped off.

Also - How does everyone cook them?  We have an old Metters cooker in the back yard so we can cook the whole lot at once (up to about 30  back with the old limits).  We normally bring them back to the boil and then give them another 10 mins.  We always throw a bit of salt in the water as well.

It will be interesting to hear how other people handle and cook their crabs!

75cm trout

unfortunately, this trout isn't mine. it was caught by a mate who is useless, but is a jaggy prick. on this particular day he hadn't fished for about an hour as he was crook, then dropped a line over and pulled this up. half of a fillet fed me and my wife comfortably

i am posting it as there was a query in another thread re what a trout of 75cm would weigh. this one was 75cm and went 6.5kgs on a set of scales that we had on board. how accurate they are i can't comment on, but that's what it said.

so what do you reckon? is the scale right or not???

spaniard wire trace?

hey guys ive been using 50lb 7 strand wire for spaniards because thats all dad has in the tackle box. and im looking at getting some more for trolling the metro macks.

what strand and breaking strain?

some brands better than others?

coated or uncoated?

is it all stainless steel?

also do you go heavier when you go north?(heading to shark bay in april)

and would a cobia or tuna still take a wired lure?

thanks in advanced, Rob

five fathom

five fathom

can anyone give me any advice on heading out to the five fathoms.  any help would be greatful.

how do u carry the spare hooks ?

well it should read "how do you carry the hooks and sinker rigs, when made up, you take out in your boat"

I make up hook and sinker rigs with a 'connection' at the top so I can change them whenever I need to, or think I need to anyway

But they get tangled in the tackle box with the rest of the gear that is not used LOL

So how do you guys store individual combinations of hooks / sinkers ??

( or do you not do it that way at all )

Thanks in advance

Went up harvey dam last night late despite the wind and overcrowding still managed to bag out in 1 hour , biggest one in the pic is 131mm and the smallest in 96. Special thanks to the dude who went crazy with about a 40 kg sack of chook pellets along the dam wall and then left early. Did miss an even bigger one...i ll get him next trip

10kg mono to leader knot

As the title suggests, what are your favourite knots for 10kg mono to leader.

I have re-spooled a Tiagra 16 with 10kg mono, mainly for trolling up some tuna down south and then up north for mackies.

What rig do you recommend from the mono onwards ?

I was thinking of 60lb jinkai with an albright, to a hawaiian snap> tornado jnr for tuna.  60lb too heavy ?

And 100lb jinkai with an albright, to swivel >wire trace crimped to a good snap swivel> lure.
