Which Food Dehydrator For Jerky?
Submitted by wazzbat on Wed, 2011-01-19 17:54With Happy Hooker's post about Dehydrators and Jerky, I'm dead keen to get myself one so I thought I'd ask what brand/type of hydrators everyone is using and where they got them from? how much? pros, cons etc. Is it worth getting an expensive commercial type one? Are the ones on Ebay any good? How's the Sunbeam one going HHooker? Thanks Everyone!

Overwhelming interest shown in developing Karratha into a major city
Submitted by Colin Hay on Wed, 2011-01-19 09:29Overwhelming interest shown in developing Karratha into a major city
Portfolio: Regional Development, Lands
A total of nine leading Australian and international property developers have formally expressed interest in taking on a landmark project to dramatically accelerate the State’s Pilbara Cities’ vision to transform Karratha into a city of at least 50,000 people.
Following an Expression of Interest (EOI) process late last year, the nine groups have applied to develop up to five parcels of prime land in Karratha’s city centre covering almost six hectares and a further 160 hectares of residential land at coastal Mulataga.
Once developed, Mulataga will be a premium coastal residential suburb of more than 2,500 dwellings, linking Karratha directly to the sea. The rush by developers follows an announcement by the Finbar Group late last year that work on the town’s first high rise residential and commercial towers would begin in early 2011.
Regional Development and Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said the response to the Mulataga/town centre EOI demonstrated that the State Government’s Pilbara Cities’ vision to create vibrant major cities in the region had gained significant momentum.
“Through Royalties for Regions we are investing an additional billion dollars in the Pilbara region over the next four years and this has sparked strong interest from the private sector,” Mr Grylls said
“Developers both here and abroad are clearly recognising the potential a town like Karratha has to become a major economic centre.
“In partnership with the private sector, the Western Australian Government is committed to creating more liveable, well-appointed North West centres that encourage familes to settle permanently, breaking the cycle of a transient fly-in-fly-out population.”
The shortlist of developers will be announced at the end of February, with proponents then moving to a Request for Proposal (RFP) stage in the procurement process.
“Short-listed developers will be asked to produce proposals to create a range of mixed use opportunities in accordance with the Shire of Roebourne’s City of the North Plan,” the Minister said.
“At the same time they will also be required to design a premium residential community at Mulataga.”
North West MLA Vince Catania welcomed the strong response from the private sector and said the opportunity for medium density commercial, retail and residential development would bring the Karratha city centre to life.

Marine band radio - GME
Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 2011-01-19 09:16Hi Guys,
I have a GME marine radio that has gone all dodgy - I won't switch off, sounds like it is recieving noise all the time, and won't transmit - It is about 2 years old and has been undercover the entire time.
Is there anyone that fixes these for less than the cost of a new one, or is there anyone with one in their shed they want to get rid of - I have it mounted in my boat in a GME flush mount bracket, so would prefer this brand.
Wanna go out to FFB on Saturday, but first need to sort this issue out...and don't have the 150 bucks for a new one...

Busso crab scooping advice
Submitted by Ben Derecki on Wed, 2011-01-19 07:56Hey guys just chasing some advice on scooping crabs at night in Busselton at the moment. I've been trying around the southern Busso beaches and haven't seen too much, done some snorkelling recon too and it's pretty dry.
Is this the wrong area or is it the wrong time of year? Some of the posts I searched before I left indicated it would be a reasonable time of year.
Would appreciate any advice on improving my catch count... Cheers

house or boat dilema
Submitted by roddo on Tue, 2011-01-18 18:25hi guys
i have a bit of a dilema
do i buy a boat or a house heres why i cant decide.
if we buy a house (it will be our first) we will be buying something we dont really want as at this stage all we can afford is a $350,000 house in the city we live in but we want to live semi rural and will need around the 500-550,000 as we want 4-6 acres,
so should we buy something we wont be happy in or
do we wait 4-5 years to buy exactly what we want and buy the boat ive been wanting for a while now its worth $25000 and would get used every weekend and holidays.
the wife doesnt care either way as she loves fishing as much as me.
what do i do

what's up with the swan?
Submitted by scottland on Mon, 2011-01-17 14:07hey crew.
i dont know if this happens often but i wouldnt imagine it would?
i was at garret road bridge this morning in ascot. and these 3 kids came down with drop nets. i didn't think they would catch anyhing but they proved me wrong. they waded through the water and climbed up onto the bridge then before i left they came back with 8 massive blues all males. they told me they got 14 yesterday.alsowe saw 3 claws all washed up. they told me that they are selling the crabs for $5 each hahah sneaky little buggers. so is it unusual for crabs to be up that far? also theres bream around hungry as hell just couldnt get a hook up.

Scooping for crabs in the Swan - possible?
Submitted by baggyred on Mon, 2011-01-17 13:44Hi there - so i've just found that scooping for crabs is a great way to spend an early sunday morning, good exercise and a feed for the family. I really haven't done any crabbing since my granddad used to take me out 20 years ago - so it's all a bit new to me.
Went down to Mandurah yesterday and caught a few - however I'd love to know if it there are any scooping spots in the swan - or does it get too deep? Would much prefer a 20min drive to an hour one.
Everyone seems to be catching monster crabs in the swan (albeit from drop nets) - i'd just like to chase a few around if there were any shallows that they might frequent.
As a last resort - i have a few pots - are there any decent jetty's worth throwing them in from - i did read that the long jetty off the como foreshore (preston st i think) might be worth a shot - can anyone let me know how long the rope needs to be - the old pots I have I daresay are more geared up to the shallows of the peel estuary than the Swan
Sorry for the ramble and my newbie knowledge of anything to do with crabbing.
Baggy

Where to, in 2011?
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Mon, 2011-01-17 09:58I know a fair few of you are headed up for the Exxy comp this year, but what else do you have planned regarding fishing trips this year?
I'm hoping to do the Gibb river road just before the wet season and hopefully get a barra up around Kununurra way or into some of those isolated creeks for some exploring.
